My Doc Will Not Refill My Xanax Im Feeling Sick (Page 15) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI was prescribed Prozac & Xanax 10 years ago by my psychiatrist for depression & severe panic attacks. He started me on 1mg 3 times a day. Around Dec 2005 he increased my daily dose to 1 mg - 4 times a day. I have been a patient of his now for 10 years where I see him every 3 months. Through the years, there has been a few times were I had to call to reschedule my appointment and a couple of times he had to do the same. He would call in my meds for the amount I would need to get me through to my next appointment. This month I had an appointment for May 27th I called to reschedule due to transportation. I do not drive now and my ride canceled on me. so, I rescheduled my app. for June 17th I then requested my meds be called in until my appointment, a 3 week supply. She said she would call me back when it was called in later that day. Not hearing anything I called back the next day to find out what was going on. I was told my doctor feels uncomfortable due to liability reasons to re-fill my medication, until I see him again in June. I asked her what about the liability to take me off medication I have been taking for 10 years? She told me to go to my primary physician to get my meds. I told her my primary care doctor will not prescribe me those medications without my medical records from this office and I just signed a medical release form a few days ago at my first appointment with this new primary doctor, so she told me to go to an urgent care if my symptoms became to uncomfortable for me to deal with!! I had enough xanax to last me until today. I took my last xanax this morning and I am already starting to feel sick, my head feels cloudy, I feel like I'm getting the flu. My heart is racing, I'm feel really anxious & closed in. Has anyone out there gone off xanax cold turkey what more should I expect? I don't understand how a doctor can prescribe medication like this for 10 years and just make you stop so suddenly it doesn't seem fair. I have lost trust in my doctor now and I don't think I can continue to be his patient anymore. I am scared and I don't know who to turn too.
Stopping xanax cold turkey can kill you and yes it is that drs. obligation to see that doesn't happen. Benzos withdrawal is horrible but most importantly it is dangerous. A dr. cannot leave a patient in that position or he will have a liability, when he has a legal suit.
Yes it's true everyone! You cannot just quit taking xanax! It can make you have seizures! It is like a night mare to get off of them. You have to be weaned off of them! And the medicine the Dr. gives you to take their place should be monitored too. It might not agree with you. Everyone's body is different. Thanks for listening!!!!
Yes, xanax cold turkey IS LIFE THREATENING... I had a very scary siezure which I can easily describe was a near death experience. I had never had a seizure in my 37 years. I had not taken my 2 mg dose in two days ( panic and ptsd) was precribed 2mg 3x per day, had been taking about 6 months. Very scary which causes more anxiety to think that I must guard with my life. However, I know im too old fo this crap, but my boyfriend took off with about 1 weeks worth during a fight...Seizure SO SCARY AND NO CONTROL OF WHEN, WHERE, OR YOUR BODY WHEN IT STARTS. I peed in my bed, bit my lip and bled, EYES ROLLING, BODY CLENCHED, NOT BTEATHING, AWOKE AND DID NOT RECOGNIZE ANYONE AROUND ME FOR A GOOD ten to twenty minutes. Please everyone be very caredul, sont abuse, use as needed only. Or two days cold turkey and you could die
Mary I suffer from severe panic attacks too! They re a total nightmare! And if you cannot get something to relieve them you are going to feel like you are dying!!!! I find that xanax works the best. However my Dr is out on medical leave. I was sent to a new Dr. and they told me after 7 years xanax did not work anymore. Then they told me the DEA was looking in to too many xanax being given out??? They gave me Neurontin instead. I took it one night and I was paralyzed in my bed!!! I laid awake all night could not move any part of my body!! Scared me to death! Here my mind was working over and over What can I do? I could not even close my hands or move my feet. I called the nurse at the Dr's the next day and she said yes Neurontin 300 mg could make you have some kind of paralyzed condition!! So please be careful what you are given and what you take. If you can stay on a lighter dose of xanax and the Dr. will agree to it I my self would rather do that! People please listen. This is important!! Do you want to lay in bed all night and can't even move!! Thank-You for listening!!
I would like to say to nobody,The DEA Is supposedly cracking down on Xanax where I live! Arkansas.. And Dr's are being reprimanded for giving too many xanax out. I only take it if I go in to a panic attack. I have never upped my dosage! Or ask my Dr to up it!! My Dr is on leave. That is all I can say about him. And new Dr I am going to is changing all of my medications. I am getting real sick on the stuff he is giving me.I think everyone in the state you, or I live in should get up a petition to send to the DEA or the Government to ask that the kind Dr;s who give you only what you need in Xanax should not be persecuted !! Too many people are suffering!!Thank-You and good luck to you!
Here to help. Thank-You for your concern!! But how do you find a compassionate DR who understands the effect of withdrawl of xanax? Especially when the DEA is persecuting Dr'a who give their patients only what they need for severe panic attacks??
Hi my name is linda and i just recently had to detox off of valium.I've been on them for 25 years.and i would not wish what im going through on my worst enemy.just wate till u stroke out i did.I'm sewing the doctor that did this to me.
I would agree with you to an extent. A patient can be placed in imminent danger for abrupt discontinuance of certain medications such as benzodiazepines. Cold turkey withdrawal can result in significant medical issues such as life threatening seizures. Although your quoting laws these laws are put into place to help regulate unauthorized drugs from being prescribed not to allow physicians to decide if they do or don't feel like refilling a medication to someone with 10 years of history on it like this individual simply because they missed an appointment. 10 years is a long time. A doctor can refuse to treat but must provide a patient 30 days notice under federal law. I've been prescribed Valium for 4 years and can tell you the medication becomes dependent by nature. I only take it as prescribed and I work full time in a management capacity and am the single dad to an autistic child. If anyone insinuated that I was an "addict" or drug seeking behavior for any reason I would sue the pants off of them. Anyone putting me in any kind of danger over a prescription I'd own their house. Do a little more research. There is minimal risk to refilling a controlled substance medication the same one a patient has been on for over a decade simply without one appointment. It would cost significantly more money to treat him for an adverse reaction or potential hospitalization versus just issuing the script, and a defense lawyer and a judge would agree.
If the addicted person is either unwilling or unable to get additional Xanax, then withdrawal starts.
Remember, when you are taking Xanax your body is producing much less GABA-the body’s natural calming substance. Again depending on your DNA and metabolism, it can take a week or more before your body starts producing enough GABA to begin calming the body. When the calming effects of the last Xanax dose wear off in a few hours, THE WITHDRAWAL STARTS !!.
It is very unwise to try to withdraw from Xanax or any benzodiazepine on your own. Reports from people who have tried to just “stop taking” Xanax relate that they experience a very bad panic attack. Others withdrawing on their own from Xanax experience high blood pressure, a rapid heartbeat, uncontrollable tremors and sudden movements of their limbs, confusion, delirium, hallucinations and even seizures which can lead to DEATH. EVERYONE, I got this off of the computer!!! This is from NOVUS . Just google Novus UNDERSTANDING DRUG DEPENDENCE!! (XANAX THE DANGEROUS BENZODIAZEPINE) THEY PLAINLY TELL YOU THAT YOU CAN DIE FROM TRYING TO GET OFF OF XANAX!!! So I suggest that you cannot get off of it your self. Or Like me a DR giving me another addictive BENZODIAZEPINE and telling me to take the xanax with clonzePAM for a week is just plain stupid! And then I will be on the ClonzePAM insted. Just another evil drug in the same family. What is the use in getting addicted to it? Steven Tyler had to go to REHAB 5 times to get off of Xanax!! He said Xanax was one of the most insidious drugs there was. I know this sounds crazy. But I am telling the truth!! He said he got off of morphine easier than Xanax!! Looks to me like one needs to go to a rehab clinic to get off of it. I had a horrible panic attack yesterday starting around 4:00 pm. I made my self not take the Xanax until 12:00 midnight. I was really in bad shape. I kept telling my self that I can do this. By the time I took 3 of them I was to the point I couldn't hardly breathe.
At Novus, we successfully help people withdraw from Xanax and other benzos. Our medical detox protocol does not guarantee that someone will have no symptoms, but that the person will safely and as comfortably as possible, complete their withdrawal.
Here's why. He is not in the office. And has not been in for 6 months . I was told by a prosecuting attorney he was a criminal. This person said he was giving out too many hydrocodone pills. And was charged as a criminal. Made me so mad I could have slapped them. My psychiatrist is a wonderful Dr. I have been seeing him for 10 years! I flat told them. No he is not a criminal. If there were any problems with him, It was he had too kind of a heart. And he really cared too much about his patient's. His reward was to be brought up on charges?? I wish I had known. I would have told him to take the patient's that were screaming at him to get the hell out of my office. He wouldn't have done that anyway!! I now that he was so harassed by legal problems that they made him sick! Real sick. I am worried for his health now!! Because I care about him. The new psychiatrist I am seeing is awful. I have been told by him they are not going to give out no more xanax period! They are trying to change me to clonazepam. It is just another addictive drug in the same family !! At this point I do not know what to do??? They were trying to change it in one week. Steve Tyler said he had to go to rehab 5 times to get off of xanax. So when did DR's decide they were God? I am going through some very hard time in my personal life. And this is just not a good time for this to happen. I guess I will reach out to God and ask him to help me. If I die from convulsions so be it. I am tired of all the torments that come with it. If you need some christian help listen to "Jeremy Camp's song -There will be a Day" on youtube. It is very uplifting. It helps me. Not much else I can say. Or listen to Jon Micah Sumrall's "Psalm 56". Both can help you with your pain. Thank-You!!!!
Many opinions here, and mine is pretty much the same as others. Xanax seems to be your friend, until you want to get off it or run out of it. Then withdrawal hell, and that hell really starts because no doctor explains to you what you may experience or what to expect or how to slowly get off or taper. Yes, it is not fun...having dealt with withdrawals. It is the strong will within me that kept me going, I wanted more desperately off the medication than stay on it. Many days I wanted to run back and refill or take a half a pill. Listen, please do work with your doctor and go to a support group in your community (check with local hospitals for info.) or join a support group online. If you have insurance request rehab, depending on how bad you feel. Everyone is different so the experience may be worse or milder depending on how much or how long you took it. It was nice to know what I was going through was not unique to just me. Many others feel similar things. To the original poster I hope her appt got moved up, due to someone cancelling their appt.
I can say from experience that coming off xanex is life threatening whether you have been on it a month or 10 years. My husband use to be on xanex for his severe and uncontrollable anxiety. I do know that doctors have to be very careful because they can lose their medical license over writing these meds especially without seeing you. My husband suffered seizures and a heart attack from doing without his medicine for 2 days, so it's very plausible that you was already experiencing withdraw with onset of panic. My husband couldn't live like that so he weened himself slowly off of xanex under a doctor care and changed to clonzepam, he was taking 4 bar xanex a day and now he only takes 1 one mg clonapan three times a day and he is much healthier and happier, he also remembers much more! His life was more important than being bound by such a strong and deadly medicine. I understand that there are those who need xanex but I hope you could find something safer, my husband had been on xanex for 12 years when he weened himself off. I would just tell you to keep your appointment and stay open to other options but never stop this medicine immediately.
I am doing much better! Thank-God. I am taking the clononazePAM is what I am taking. I do still take two xanax at night because the new Dr didn't give me anything so I can sleep.. He gave me MIRTAZAPINE. It makes me puking sick. I tried it at night for over 2 weeks and I was deathly sick every day I took it. So If I can get him to prescribe something so I can sleep I think I can get off of the xanax period. But the ClonoazePAM is still a Benzo. I would like to get off of them for good. But with panic attack I don't know if I can? I see the new Dr the first of December and if he can do like my sons Dr and give me either 6 pills a week with one day off or even 5 sleeping pills a week I am going to try to get of the Benzo's completely. Do you know that the FDA recommends only 4 weeks for xanax? And 5 weeks for valium . Well I am just going to have to try and see what I can do because the ClonazePam does not work like xanax. It takes much longer to kick in. And it does not work as good. Still in a partial panic attack with it. It is not so bad I can't stand it. But it is nerve wracking. My Dr is supposed to come back after the first of the year. He has been gone 8 months when December rolls around. By them my medicines he used to give me will be gone. About the only thing I could get him to do is give me some sleeping pills. Good luck to all of you! Everyone please be careful getting off of these junk benzo's
In my opinion, if you lose or misplace your med one time, your Dr. Can not replace it due to restictions of this type1 or 2 narcotics. I have been taking prozac and xanax, seriquole, trazodone, etc...for8 years. I've never asked for more, even if I've taken too much or lost it (and it has happened). I will say this....I have had 3-4 seizures (one lasting 36 hrs) So...PLEASE, PLEASE! Go to the emergencyroom immediately! They left me in there for 3 days! I was very close to having a stroke. Do not play around. Because you don't even when this will tis could happen. This is very serious. Dr. Will not take the risk of having a patient die to lose their record. No No
The new Dr. I have gave me Clonzapam. I am now on it and my Other Dr will be coming back in February of next year. The new Dr. gave me a lot of crazy meds I don't like. Made me sick. But I can stay on the Clonzapam for panic attacks now I had severe panic attacks too. The clonzapam relaxes them enough I can live with it.. I just need other from my DR. who was gone now. Sleeping pills. And a muscle relaxant for stiff muscles at night. Really I am glad to be off xanax. It is a nasty drug. If there is anyway you can get off of it please do so.
I've heard quitting lyrica put you in extremely horrible withdrawals. I heard they also can last for months. That's also a drug you want to take responsible.
I have taken xanax for about 17yrs.now. The dose you are taking just taking one will make you feel the way you are. Be careful you can go into a seizure and or hallucinate! You need to wean yourself if you want to stop taking them. You can actually be detoxed for free because the withdrawals CAN kill you!
Xanax half life is 12 hours so there is no way you are sick after taking your last one a few hours ago. Wait till day two or three when you start having seizures and shaking uncontrollably and your body becomes numb, your rye sight starts to get blurry and you can't sleep for days because of tremors and hallucinations. I been on 3 - 2 mg zannie bars a day for six year's and my meds got stolen by my ex
..I felt the pain I know whAt happens.
It ain't good. But feeling sick after just a few hours...
I don't believe that is your problem. You're just worried..the pain comes after day two
That is true , I'm dealing wt a similar situation and I was told that they stop u from taking those meds cold turkey, because the side affects of withdrawing it feels ur in a bad nightmare u can't breathe ur heart is pounding the brain is starting to feel like a roller coaster, my point is I think that's not right. Hope u find a solution and feel better
VERWON, you make a good sounding argument and are able to to confound those who are emotionally compromised and suffering from their own self perpetuating anxiety, coupled with the beginnings of withdrawals from Benzos, that is, IF you correctly ASSUMED that your estimated time since he actually dosed, til the time we are reading about it. AND if he explained it correctly in writing, then you have to admit it is a thin line between the Dr just covering his legal backside despite the hypocratic oath and putting the true welfare of the patient first.
I thought the patient came first? And as for the whole "Drug Seeker" excuse, heaven forbid that a patient exhibit anxiety and agitation over a hostile attitude from the Dr. they've trusted and been treated by FOR extreme anxiety for years, and all of the sudden the Dr. hides behind this Drug Seeker argument. . . Come on! How clear does the Doctor's actions AND true motives have to be?? How wide spread does this story have to be?? I personally know more than a few people who have a very similar story and I don't believe that that many people who have been prescribed Alprazalam, or Xanax are ALL drug addicts. And if they are addicts, then it is the responsibility of the prescribing physician, because they knew what they were prescribing in the beginning and they still got paid and now they want to be paid for nothing, and the patient does not know what they need.
It's all a racket to make millions and control tens of millions through their illnesses and the treatment, or better said, Non Treatment of your ailments. Everyone has to have medical coverage and a lot have a medicare based plan.
