Metoprolol Withdrawal (Page 13) (Top voted first)
Updatedi've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol.
i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred.
is this withdrawal? how long will it last?
i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad.
Thanks for responding. I guess i am still in the beginning stages. I can only look foward to one day feeling normal again
You will Jr you really will feel better just keep keeping on. Cry when you have to, scream when you have to but also watch some comedy and laugh because this will someday bevavdistant memory??
Sandra i am going thr the same thing . I have been taking l theanine like jimbo recommend and it has been helping but i also take coq10. Anita i also think i am feeling weirdo head . How long did it take to get rid of it
I've been off completely since August. The weirdo head still happens but not that often. I get it on occasion and notice it's now associated with some random anxiety. I never knew what anxiety was but now I can feel the effects: racing heart, irregular heart beat, elevated BP, weirdo head. If I just relax and tell myself "this is anxiety" and try and just sit still and calm down, it usually passes by the next day. I kept lots of notes which I used to see improvement and to see trends with what I was doing, etc. It gave me something to go on as I prayed that I would improve and get my life back. I can say that after 6 months off, I can pretty much do anything without fear that I would have an "incident" and have to go to the ER with spiked BP which is what one of the side effects of the Metoprolol was for me, along with the weirdo head, chest pain and anxiety. I do take Lisinopril 10mg for my blood pressure but prior to the M, took it for years with zero issues. Bad months turned into bad days...and now its occasional that I feel "off". You will improve, it just takes time. :)
I could NEVER have gotten off this medicine if it were not for this thread. The doctors will NOT acknowledge any problems with this medicine. I have had 3 ER doctors try and put me ON it when I was there with BP spikes and palpitations during the withdrawal. I don't know why they all love this stuff. I think there must be some commission or something. Anyway, try and stay calm. I quit coffee during the weaning period also, anything that would get my heart going was off limits. Scary times but now I'm back drinking half caf in the morning and doing fine. Walking has been very important. My heart needs to learn how to regulate itself again. Recovery is possible!
AS a physician, I have to agree with you. My Cardio friends either think I'm joking or describing a psychophysiological disorder. My Mom had a bad reaction to Blacken (another B-blocker) and my med student brother to track her into continuing it regardless. I'm 10 years older and I hold an MD and a PhD, both Ivy League. After walking my brother's ass like Christ walked the waters – "AND WHAT'S YOUR LICENSE NO, AND YOUR DEA NUMBER? I REMEMBER I GOT INTO LAST CHANCE MEDICAL SCHOOL IN MEXICO AND I WENT TO YALE. You don't have a license to practice under supervision, I don't think, but even if you do, if YOU EVER PRACTICE WITHOUT A LICENSE AGAIN, I'LL SEE TO IT THAT YOU NEVER PRACTICE IN THE AMERICAS... EVER! TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT MY EYES. BY THE BLESSED VIRGIN, I'M NOT F***ING KIDDING. NOW FOR THAT A**HOLE "SUPERVISING YOU". I brought him up on charge of Gross Negligence in the Practice of the Profession and other charges, and his license went again for FIVE YEARS. This was my Mom, for Christ's sake...and even then were dozen's of blood pressure meds from which to choose. Some of us have the right degrees, the right connections, and enough BALLS to stand up and speak for patients like you and my Mom.
Sandra that's so off that he said there is no way that could be withdrawals because I believe any ache or pain could be withdrawal. I have no aches and pains today also that crazy eye thing isn't there. The pains when I do get them feel like an electrical cord that is frayed and zaps of electricity trying to make it through the cut wires. Feeling pretty good today and gonna go with it! I really hope your ear gets better! We can and will do this??
Justme......glad to hear you're feeling better! I literally get goose bumps with a big smile when I hear of someone that has successfully passed through the twilight zone. That's when we truly know with absolute certainty that this drug does horrible things to some of us.
Im still having dizziness and headaches and some light headedness. A little over a month off. Anyone else?
Anita, thanks.
But I had a huge episode of sinus tachycardia a few days ago and ended at ER. The doctors told me I can't go without medicines anymore.
Bisoprolol was so bad for me. I will now have to try even Metoprolol which you all hate or some different medicine (not a BB), it seems.
In one way, I hoped that this episodes are just a withdrawal episodes, but the doctors said that they weren't. (They happen after some light or moderate activity).
Good luck to others
I've been taking Vitamin C and resting every chance I get! Lots of water. Im a month and a week off.
Yea the back and forth was too much. Hoping I can stay strong this time.
You will . Just stay strong . Thats what i keep telling my self
Ugh BAD am, heart started pounding at 430am, along with gut wrenching anxiety
I am teary today, so tired of this. Anyone else feel like they are literally dying?
Thanks BEE . This helps alot. Knowing that here is people that went thru and still respond is awesome. It keeps my hopes up
Yeah, I went through many of the same things as Bee. Even though I was fortunate enough to get beyond the worst of it quicker than she was able to, I had all of the same rebound effects. It was the angina that led me to the ER a number of times. Like others here, I wasn't able to walk more than a few steps without feeling as though I was going to have a heart attack. Then one day finally came where I could walk a block, then two, then a mile or two. I was literally in heaven when that first day occurred. Ya just gotta hang in there the best you can until that special day arrives.
As of my last posting above, I'm on day three of feeling good again after some kind of week-long recurrence. It may not have been due to the Metoprolol, but I'm not ruling it out, either. My doc certainly didn't have a clue. All I know for sure is that it was very reminiscent of withdrawal. Ugh!
Oh Bee thank you so much for posting your a trooper! Had to pee in a bag? I just can't imagine but what a story for all of us that think we might be crazy even though we know we aren't! All those crazy thoughts are nothing but lies from the pits of hell! Yesterday I had a good day but the day before I felt like a pressure cooker with the top ready to blow! Today good so far! Lauren and Jr hang in there we can so do this and please don't let them put you on anything Else. Somebody said on here that our bodies know what to do and we will get to a new normal. In crazy thoughts I'm meaning things like I'm gonna die, I'll never be the same and on and on all lies we will be okay. I now have a headache that's driving me crazy but if I take aleve the aleve feels like I took something to make me hyper which gives me anxiety. Hang in there everybody and please post whatever your going through o matter how crazy it sounds because someone out there might need it and I'll do the same also. Geez what a ride!!!!
Yes, I am no longer able to tolerate any NSAIDS, sends me thru the roof with anxiety. People JUST DO NOT get it, unless you have lived thru this. I understand that the folks in my house are tired of hearing that I just don't feel well, and I am tired of LIVING it. Like clockwork early this am the pounding started, so I took a few drops of Thyroid Calming tincture and that helped within 15 mins, was able to get some more rest. Right now I am body buzzing, ears ringing, and dizzy if I move my head too fast. I hope there will come a day when I don't have to worry about every moment, every single thing I eat or dont,( and I follow a grain free dairy free diet anyhow) . It has definitely been a bad couple of weeks here, just as I had hoped to be clearing some of the 'woods'. That thyroid calming tincture recommends 30-40 drops two to four times a day..... I can't tolerate any more than 7 drops at a time, that's how super sensitive my system has become. It is very helpful tho. Keep posting all, we all need to lean on each other.
Cjj88 . It is a hard road but one day at a time . I haven't tried going to the gym yet but all i do is walk. i am doing 2 miles a day it helps and especially at night . It helps me sleep better . Tomorrow is my 2 months off
Day 2 of feeling sort of reasonable. It's so hard to trust when you feel a bit better, the other shoe always seems tondrop. I was relieved to hear that I am.not the only one who is worse in am and tends to get a bit clearer by later afternoon. So STRANGE.
Sandra hang in there, I know that 'back on my butt' frustration all too well. Mercifully I am off today and tomorrow. Next week I have a 63 hour week, which I am dreading.
