Metoprolol Withdrawal (Page 112)

Updated

i've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol.

i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred.

is this withdrawal? how long will it last?

i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad.

I wish we could get a list of all the things that anxiety does! TIL that anxiety also causes chest tightness.

Yes as long as doctor says there is nothing to worried about your palps then we shouldn’t be bothered ! When is your ablation scheduled?

Did you ever have chest tightness, muscle pain , weird feeling around chest?
Also 2 days ago what did doc say about the pain if it wasn't cardiac what was it?

Re: RV (# 2221) Expand Referenced Message

So both ER doctors said it’s not heart related. All labs, cardiac enzymes, and tropinin was normal. Ekg was fine as well. I think chest pains could be muscular, hormonal ( I don’t know if you’re a boy or girl lol), anxiety etc. I think the tightness and sometimes weird breaths is withdrawal from the beta blocker. They are starting to go back to normal and that gives you the sensation of tightness and harder breathing but in reality you’re not having those issues. The vessels were open due to the beta blocker for easy blood flow and now that you stopped they are going back to their normal size. The longer you are off the beta blocker the easier and more normal you will feel. I didn’t start to feel somewhat normal until at least 2-3 months. I still had bad waves all in that time frame.

I’m wondering if the soy is finally detoxing or the reflux is going away. Last night I slept well and realized I wasn’t feeling the palpitations when I’d briefly wake up and when I woke up this morning, I didn’t have any in bed at all ( knock on wood) but when I got out of bed I had some. And now after lunch I’m not having any. So maybe they are slowly going away little by little ( pleaseeee be so) but I’m so happy I’m
Just having moments of the day today with zero palps.

My dr doesn’t seem to be worried as I called three times last week over them and each time
He looked at my monitor he said it was fine. So I’m just trusting in that and letting go of my medical anxiety.

The ablation isn’t scheduled yet but I have my 6 month follow up on Jan 13th and he said we woke discuss it then. We shall see

Read below but also I got the heart sign on the BP monitor. Wonder if it’s due to my PVCS. I did an ecg and it said sinus rhythm so I think all is good. Maybe the PVCs are setting off the sign?

I’m doing okay. I had a really good day on Saturday. I was pretty excited about that. Then on Sunday it all went tumbling down again.

Hahaha i am a man! 2-3 months till you felt normal? I am into 35th day and boy this is not something that i thought i would be going through! It is like everyday i have a new symptom didnt have back pain till i saw my cardiologist last monday and it started happening 3-4 days ago it comes and goes. Feel weird around right collarbone sometimes don’t know what that is, palps have stopped for now unless i hold my breath then i can hear my heart beats. I was on this for 135 days and first 4-5 days after weaning off were pretty good but now its miserable.

Same! I had no palps when I slept on Saturday and then when I woke up yesterday felt great and they were little to no palps. Then later Sunday evening they came back with a vengeance and last night was absolutely miserable. I had to take 1/4 pill channel blocker :( gunna call my cardio this morning to see if it was just PVCs or something else because I felt so funky last night and they felt relentless

RV, yes, I feel like the first two months just SUCK. You’ll have some good days, but a lot of the bad one still. It does get way better the more time has passed. Although here I am at 8 months off now with this new retched symptom and not sure if it’s related or not

Re: RV (# 2228) Expand Referenced Message

Honestly I just took it day by day and since these PVCs started 2.5 weeks ago, I’m doing the same thing. I called the cardio again this morning, and I can tell they are annoyed with me probably, but I don’t care. It’s my health and I feel like sh**
I asked them to check my monitor to see if it was PVCs or just a rhythm change and he said PVCs like we already told you :: eye roll:: but last night felt so dang funky I was afraid I went into afib or something ( worst case scenario in my Brain playing out)

I’m like you, if I could go to the dr everyday and get checked out until I have my appt with my cardio, I probably would. I still have 3 weeks until my appt :(

Are you having any good days at all or still just feeling like crap every day? What are you feeling today?

Re: Txcandy1 (# 2229) Expand Referenced Message

There are good days like i felt good when i was off it for a few days then couple of days where i would not be bothered and 1-3 days after i see a doctor it calms me down. But external validation is too harmful i guess.

So back pain (which is on & off )started after i saw my cardiologist isn’t it wonderful i also asked for holter monitor he said no need. Since you are a vegan please get your b12 vitamin checked i have been put on b12 supplement for a month

Re: RV (# 2230) Expand Referenced Message

Ugh! I think the back pain could just be general aches and pains. Where is the pain located?

Well I think it’s a could sign you don’t need a monitor. I had allllll the monitors and then ended up with the implant which does give peace of mind. But ugh this sucks

I’m not vegan :) I just was eating protein bars and shakes that ended up being soy based :( I truly think it wrecked havoc on my already sensitive system. Unless it’s just a crazy coincidence butttttt it was literally when I started eating all that crap

Re: Txcandy1 (# 2231) Expand Referenced Message

right shoulder side and it isn't too painful but slightly painful which magnifies in my brain which causes anxiety!

i thought i'll feel better once i am off this but day 35 and its getting worse hopefully this will go away in another couple of weeks . Also, since last week blood pressure shot up to 135/85 which earlier in week 2-3 of weaning off was 120-125/75-80.

How is your day going?

Re: RV (# 2232) Expand Referenced Message

You could just be having an off day BP wise. Did you eat something high in sodium?

Right shoulder could be gallbladder? Do you have any gallbladder issues? Or it could absolutely be nothing. Do you have any abdomen pain in the upper right too?

I feel ok today. The day after I take channel blocker even if it’s the smallest dose, I always feel like I have rebound tachy. My walking around today was around 112. Kinda headachy today too. Other than that the PVCs are more settled today: maybe because I talked to the cardio lolol

I def still went through rough waves even at 35 days out. Hang in there! It will get better.

How are you feeling today julyia?

Re: Txcandy1 (# 2233) Expand Referenced Message

Haha no pain in abdomen! 112 walking is just slightly elevated i feel .

Calcium channel blockers were good to me. I wonder when will it subside i have come a long way already! When did it eventually get better for you?

Did chest pain for you begin right after you weaned off metoprolol or it happened some time later?

Re: Txcandy1 (# 2233) Expand Referenced Message

I was doing okay yesterday. Only a couple of mild symptoms. I have a feeling it’s going to take me 2 or 3 years to recover because I reinstated so many times. But it is what it is. Can’t go back in time and change it now.

It happened while in the weaning process as well as afterwards. And still happens on occasion when I get a wave.

Wow kudos to you who is braving all this since july . This my 36th day and my mind is not ready to accept that these symptoms could be from withdrawal. How many times did you reinstate?

Re: RV (# 2238) Expand Referenced Message

I’m officially 8 months off metoprolol and I still feel like I’m having rebound/withdrawal symptoms every now and then. Good days and bad days. I'm really hoping for me, that the ablation is a success and gets rid of all these things.

Channel blocker doesn’t seem to affect me exactly the same way but I do find I have rebound tachy for the next couple days after and I only took 1/4 pill. Yesterday and today I have about 115 walking around doing normal stuff. Nothing strenuous.

How are you feeling today? Did the chest pain go away? I did read a lot of people on this board had some sort of angina coming off the beta blocker. Maybe it’s a little bit of that.

Glad you had some good days Juliya! Hopefully the wave will subside and you’ll have lots of good days in a row soon
