Thank you, Florencia ## Hi Florencia, Based on my research, The usual dose for patients with irritable bowel syndrome and similar conditions or symptoms ie: diarrhea and/or constipation, is 1 capsule twice daily, 10 - 15 minutes before breakfast and lunch. Some severe cases that are difficult to control or may require a dose increment of 1 capsule three times a day. I also read that it is helpful to those dealing with Irritable bowel syndrome to reduce 20% of the daily fat intake, doing so should help with intestinal gas. Side effects are rare, but may include: abdominal pain, pruritus, rash, regurgitation and dysphagia. Dicyclomine is used to treat the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, and is in a class of medications called anticholinergics. It is supposed to relieve muscle spasms in the gastrointestinal tract by blocking the activity of a certain natural substance in the body. As far as finding a substitute goes, it would probably be best to look for something within the same drug class of anticholinergics. I am taking 20 mg and I was wondering if this medication can cause a false positive for benzos? I just took a drug screen yesterday and it read positive for benzos, but I don't take them. ## Hey let me tell you the exact same thing just happened to me today at my suboxone doctors office. I was racking my brain trying to figure out why benzodiazepines showed up in my drug screen because I hadn't taken anything but immodium ad and bentyl other than my suboxone. But my doctor said it could have been the immodium (loperamide) but I completely forgot to tell him I took the bentyl also until I had already left his office. I am on day 3 OF NITROFURAN MONOHYD MACRO 100MG 100 mg for urinary track infection every 12hrs, I have problems with my stomach and have been prescribed DICYCLOMINE 10MG/5ML. So just going off that information alone, I don't think there should be any problems using the two together (outside of each medication's own general side effects). The pharmacy pamphlet says not to break or crush but I'm wondering if I can split my 20 MG Dicyclomine tablets in half to see what effects the med will have on me before taking a whole 20 MG tablet. I have read on forums that people do split them all the time but I would feel better hearing the answer from a professional. So is it okay ti split a 20 MG dicyclomine tablet in half? ## If the instructions for the ones you have say not to break, or crush them, then you should not do so. How long after taking your first pill can you have a reaction to it? I have taken one over 3 hours ago and felt like it was a bit hard to breath for the first couple hours and feel weird in the head now 3 1/2 hours later. My face is also getting red. ## Bentyl is known for those type of reactions. I would say that sometimes the effects may last for a while but after your body get's use to the pill over the course of a couple of weeks even a month the feelings will wane. I think for some people we will always have that mild feeling of taking something but if the get to much to bear after a few weeks talk to your doctor about changes your medication. I began taking bentyl 2 weeks ago for ibs. After 2 days I noticed that I haven't had any appetite and I still don't. My appetite was normal until beginning this medication. My pharmacist suggested I stop taking the medication, wait a couple of days to see how my appetite was and then call my doctor with my findings. I just got around to calling him yesterday. I did not tell him I had completely stopped because I thought he would just switch medicines. He told me to cut down to two pills a day and see how that does. How do others deal with a lack of appetite from medication? After Christmas I will let my doctor know I am not taking the medicine and my appetite still hasn't returned. Those types of reactions have been known to occur, but usually only with high doses. How long were you taking it? Are you on any other medications? ## Yes, Yes, and Yes. I was on this forum a few weeks ago and I literally thought I was losing it. But yes Bentyl can and for me did have those adverse effects especially the extreme fatigue. I felt like I was two people looking at myself from the outside. Any possibility that the "R" could be an "A", based on the font or pill condition? The closest match I've seen here is a white oblong shaped pill with AP on one side and 115 on the back. This particular tablet reportedly contains 0.375 mg of Hyoscyamine sulfate ER; used for treating various digestive problems, including IBS. For verification, the manufacturer who makes this is called Franklin Pharma and the pill itself carries a National Drug Code of 50532-0115. You are correct, that is an odd medication to treat such issues, because it works by causing the smooth muscles of your stomach and intestines to relax according to FDA reports, thus it isn't likely to help with either condition that you are experiencing.
