How To Get Off Suboxone (Page 30)

Updated

Im Marina Im 24 years old and a mother of 2 beautiul little boys. From the years 2006-2007 i was heavily addicted to Oxy 80 and eventually started doing herion. I got help in sep.2007 at a methadone clinic, it worked for as long as i was on the methadone i had NO relapse's. In June 2009 i was completly off of the methadone that first day that i was on 0Mgs I went through extreme withdrawls i went through things that i would never wish upon my worst enemy! i stayed that way for a day and a half and decided to go to a suboxone doctor. He put me on 32 mgs a day which i thought was pretty high of a dose but he explained to me that methadone withdrawls was worst then any other withdrawls. so i trusted him. Now when i go to see him every month i pretty much beg for him to start the weining process and start lowering me and he pretty much refuses. After months of being on 32mgs a day he finally started tapering me down slowly, i never really thought any thing of it till now but i realized he's keeping me on the suboxne for as long as posible so that he can get my $200.00 a month. all he is, is a legal drug dealer bc now im highly addicted to the suboxone. I recently had to go a few days with out my suboxone bc i didnt have the money to see him and i went through hell. i thought methadone withdrawl was bad OMG there is no comparison. i wanted to either use which i havent done in years or rip my face off lol its funny now but it definatley wasnt funny a few days ago while i was feeling that way! So i spoke to a good friend whos going through the same thing and he told me that they just came out with a new pill to get you off suboxone. I just want to know if that's true. I tryed googleing it but i cant find any thing. If you have heard of this new pill please respond or if you even have a good way to get off soboxone as painless and posible... thanx

Hey Monkey, That ETT sounds interesting. Would you know if insurance companies cover it seeings how it,s new? What kind of therapist or doctor performs the treatment?

Hi Jolter, You just need a therapist who is on panel with your insurance company who is trained in ETT. Unfortunately not many therapists even know about it and even less do it. Also most of the ETT practioners Iknow don't take insurance, but that's common in my area. You can go on the ETTIA website and see if anyone in your area is trained. You can also call Dr. Steve Vazquez' office in Dallas and ask for a referral. Where do you live?
I know there are many in Texas. I'm im southern ca and there are a few great ones here. An amazing one in Oregon.
I'm on panel with Anthem and just bill for the sessions. They don't really pay attention to the treatment modality of the providers. But believe me, my clients are getting off antidepressants and anxiety meds and insurance companies LOVE that because they save money!
The psychiatrist I refer clients to is blown away with the profound rapid change in my clients and happy to see some able to get off meds. ETT really helped them with withdrawal even from antidepressants. One client was ready to increase the dose again when I treated her and a week later she dropped to zero. Symptoms came back (anxiety ) and I treated her again and it was a done deal.
I've done EMDR for over 20 years and ETT is far superior.
Best, Monkey

I personally would keep away from tramadol. Its as hard to get off of as suboxone. And 2 mg feels like nothing to me. I must say I went on suboxone to get OFF the tramadol I was on for 3 yrs. I started at like 12 mg subs and could never get below 3mg,and even then I never felt right for almost a month on that does. Yet a few others talk about getting down to 1mg of subs twice a day then once a day and then off. It would never work for me.

Here in Florida, it seems like all the detox centers just get you off cold turkey. I tried that route and at least I was clean for 18 days but when I went back to tramadol, I was able to start on a much lower dose than previosuly. Remember 2 things: SOME PEOPLE NEED TO WEAN OFF A DRUG SLOWLY(and for others like me its just a tease. Plus slowly to doctors is not slowly to me. I think when it comes to certain drugs especially if valium/benzos are involved. A year is really needed/ maybe 18 months. A drug counselor who worked 7 yrs at a drug detox center said, it will take you 18 months to feel or be normal. One could come before the other. Thats horrifying but thats the way it goes. I'd like to tell everyone the best way to do this, cold turkey or titrating slowly is to go back to school or go start learning something totally new that you could be crazy about. I feel we will rarely ever get off the opiate/suuboxone/benzo mrry-goround unless we really have something to live for. In my case I have no support. Just a very toxic family who acts as if support is about underwear. I'd move out of state and never speak to any family again if I could to be clean but I have no friends who want me or care. If this is you, take it slow, congratulate yourself for getting thru each day.......AND IF IT MEANS MOVING, get away from the people on your job or family members who make you want to use. Oh and one more thing....studies are now showing that those who eat a lot of Omega 3 oils/fats are happier people because then your brain can make more serotonin and dopamine, the "happy" chemicals. Why arent I clean ,then? I cant answer but bour brains have nutritional needs like the rest of the body so it makes sense. 4 yrs on suboxone and subs and still trying. At least Im not on crazy doses of subs where I have to go doctor shopping and such, but I know suboxone is just buying you time. For me I ask you and myself: WHY REMAIN ON SUBOXONE IF YOU CANT GET OFF OF IT IN 3 MONTHS. I can see where you can be on it for life and keep going next month, next month, but that never comes. And believe it or not, I met at least 5 people on the internet who said just walking, warking up to 5 miles a day has done everything they need to get clean. Makes sense, move the blood around and it gets the blood in your brain pushing out all that crap.

Hey chaz I'm from aurora colorado. I am at 5mgs a day now for a week. I have one half of a strip which is 4 mg. So I will cut it with something sharp into 16 pieces and it will be .25 mg. So then I have 16 days well I think I may start skipping days after a wk. I hope I don't get too sick. I'm really scared. I can't tell my family and I did tell my sponsor but I live alone and have to take care of myself and I'm such a pansy when it comes to being sick because it causes anxiety and I already have severe anxiety. I'm hoping tramadol helps. I have a script for it and haven't taken any yet.

Jill if you cut it into 16 prices that is 1/2 of a mg .50, 8 prices would be 1 mg so if you could the 1 in half that is .50. I am done with them, today is day 16 and I am still not %100 but it is getting a little better. Suboxone has a long half life, I think 8 days which means it takes that long for half to get out of your system. You are going to have to get some because you can not come down that fast, you have to kind of do it slow or you are going to be really sick.

Chaz,
Congratulations!!!
That's great news. We all loved to hear about success getting off Suboxone !
I've reduced my dose by 5 mg I in the past 2 weeks. I know when I get down to the lower doses it will become more difficult, but I'm ready!!!
Keep t up!

Thanks Monkey, I have been on it way too long with several attempts to get off and this is the furthest I have gotten. No turning back now. What really helped me is only taking a little off at a time once I got down to about 2 mg, before that I was cutting a lot but you can really afford to cut a lot more then.

That is awesome that you are lowering your dose, you can do it!! It is difficult but when I was on H there was nothing like the withdraws of that, so if you can handle that you can handle anything. My husband has been wanting me to get off this for so long, I have been on this since 2005. Anyway this is a great place for support, I was really happy that I had this site.

Hey Monkey, Chaz is correct. Once you get on those low doses you gotta do very small drops. Something like 0.25mg drops at a time. And pay attention to your body.
Don't drop again until your system feels comfortable. This can take a week or two.
Tapering off subs takes time due to the long half life but it's well worth it.

Chaz- Congrats to you!!!!! That is amazing that you did it. I'm sure it was hard, but little by little I'm sure you will feel better. I know some days are better then others and you might feel good one minute and the next minute you might feel like sh**! Take advantage of those moments. Walk! Even if you don't feel like it. I'm sure you already know all this. Be proud of yourself!!! And reward yourself even if it's just a scoop of ice-cream! Lol! I hope your spouse is supportive and is encouraging your progress. That is a huge thing that you need.
I wanted to know how long you were tapering before you stopped? And what amount were you taking before you started to taper? I am just trying to figure out how long the tapering process will take. I'm sure it's different for everyone. I need to get a big calendar to keep track of my progress once I start tapering. Good luck to you. And keep up the great work!!!

Jolter,
Yes, For sure! I dropped from 12 to 8, did that for 2 weeks, and now I'm cutting a sliver off the 8 mg strip. I feel fine but I'll do this for a week. Next Monday I will double the side of the sliver and go for a week. I will not reduce unless I feel good for several days. For sure when I get down to 2 mg I'll start feeling it and will need to wait longer to reduce most likely. But I feel so good!

Monkey I think you would be surprised if you cut your strip in half and took about 2mg off and did 6 mg a day instead of just cutting slithers. Your body will be fine until you get down to about 3 mg a day, what I did when I was coming down was took half my dose in the morning and the other half in the afternoon-evening, your body doesn't have time to get sick.

Chaz and anyone else with suggestions....yay! I got two more strips to help with my slow taper.I'm on .5 now. I plan on going to .25 but then I have to cut the strip in 32 pieces.how do I do that? Has anyone done that? Please someone tell me what to do with these last two strips to make the wd as easy as possible.

Jill it is possible to cut it that small but difficult it would be better if you had the 2mg strips to work with good luck you can do this we will be praying for you. I have watched your progress for the past weeks and it gives me hope that i can do it also. Hope you have a blessed day.

Sprinkle, I don't have a way to get the 2mg. Strips. So I HAVE to cut the 8 mg into 32 pieces to get a .25. I HAVE A QUESTION FOR YOU CHAZ AND ANYONE ELSE WHO HAS JUMPED OFF. The ? Is at what mg do u fo the jump? Do I do it at .25? How long do I do .25 for? I mean, I'm already cutting an 8mg strip into 32 pieces which is a crumb. CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW TO USE THE LAST TWO STRIPS I HAVE TO GET OFF FOREVER? SINCE I'm down to .25 now? Please. And u all have a blessed day

Jill you can do this, if I was you I would try to stop while you have some left because it is in your mind as well. If you know you have some I think mentally you don't get as sick. I am on day 20 I think and I am still not %100 but I know the end is coming, I stopped at .50 so you are further along than I was. I have been taking tramadol and that eases it a little. I still can't sleep completely but it is getting better.
Your down to the nitty gritty! Try to skip a day or two and see how you feel, I would get some tramadol though
