How To Get Off Suboxone (Page 31)

Updated

Im Marina Im 24 years old and a mother of 2 beautiul little boys. From the years 2006-2007 i was heavily addicted to Oxy 80 and eventually started doing herion. I got help in sep.2007 at a methadone clinic, it worked for as long as i was on the methadone i had NO relapse's. In June 2009 i was completly off of the methadone that first day that i was on 0Mgs I went through extreme withdrawls i went through things that i would never wish upon my worst enemy! i stayed that way for a day and a half and decided to go to a suboxone doctor. He put me on 32 mgs a day which i thought was pretty high of a dose but he explained to me that methadone withdrawls was worst then any other withdrawls. so i trusted him. Now when i go to see him every month i pretty much beg for him to start the weining process and start lowering me and he pretty much refuses. After months of being on 32mgs a day he finally started tapering me down slowly, i never really thought any thing of it till now but i realized he's keeping me on the suboxne for as long as posible so that he can get my $200.00 a month. all he is, is a legal drug dealer bc now im highly addicted to the suboxone. I recently had to go a few days with out my suboxone bc i didnt have the money to see him and i went through hell. i thought methadone withdrawl was bad OMG there is no comparison. i wanted to either use which i havent done in years or rip my face off lol its funny now but it definatley wasnt funny a few days ago while i was feeling that way! So i spoke to a good friend whos going through the same thing and he told me that they just came out with a new pill to get you off suboxone. I just want to know if that's true. I tryed googleing it but i cant find any thing. If you have heard of this new pill please respond or if you even have a good way to get off soboxone as painless and posible... thanx

I was on suboxone a few years ago, and I did real good on it. I was actually getting myself of of it, until I couldn't afford the office visit, unfortunately I went back to methadone, which I could kick myself in the ass now for. The way I did it was for a week or two I only took one waffer....then the next week or two I split it.......then the next week or two I split that....i was down to a quarter piece a day. I didn't feel bad at all, I still had some of the suboxone in me. You should try it .

Jill, Are you taking just .25mg once a day. If so, for how long have you been at .25mg daily?
Do you feel comfortable on .25mg?
The reason I ask this is because its hard to make a suggestion without knowing this.
A quarter mg. is a good dose to jump off at as long as you tapered down to it and can get through the day on it.
You do want to be on this dose long enough so that your body gets used to it. With the long half life of subs that's at least a week and maybe longer.

Jill I got to day 20 and took a little piece because I still feel like crap. I have no energy and I am hoping to be able to go another couple weeks on that piece I took. This medication really sucks, I got off methadone easier than this stuff.
I have too much going on to feel crappy, I am leaving tomorrow for florida to visit my dad who is dying of cancer, he just found out like 3 weeks ago. It's crazy, and he is pretty young 65 I think so hopefully I can push through another 20 days. Anyway I was on it for I think 6 or 7 years maybe longer. No worries about all the questions...that's how we learn from each other.

Day 6 off Suboxone. I wanted to post my diary in the beginning but, I was too tired. I must say, the withdrawl hasn't been as bad as some of the stories I've read. I must admit, I did take medicine to help ease the symptoms:
God
Benedryl
Imodium
Clonidine 0.1 mg
Tylenol 3
So far I sleep all night. The benedryl helps with all the flu like symptoms (sneezing, watery eyes, etc..). The Imodium helps with diarrhea and cramps. Clonidine helps with anxiety, chills, sweats and restless legs. Tylenol 3 is very weak compaired to all the other opiates but it helps.
This is very hard being that I do have 2 active kids and my husband slap me with a divorce out of no where. I feel like I'm dying inside. I know alot of people say by they start to suffer from depression. I got depressed when I got served with divorce papers. I then made up my mind that I needed to get it together. I'm about to be single from a 20 year relationship with 2 kids. I'm so scared but this suboxone dependency needs over for me to get on with life.
Ok Day 3 & 4 was ok. Just a lot of yawning and the need to stretch.
Day 5 I ws extremely tired. My muscles in my back are feeling weirded. I don't really have an appetite. i force myself to eat something like bananas and drank Gatorade.
Day 6 today I'm ok just yawning a lot. At 4:32am I woke up and took 1 of each of my meds. This sofa is my best friend. I'll post later today to let you all know how it goes.

Hi Subsucks, Congratulations on getting off subs. It,s the halflife that makes the jump from this med so unpredictable.
Don,t get discouraged if in a day or two if it really starts to hit you. This will pass. I,ve jumped off subs several times in the past. For me I really started feeling it around day 4. Other people say around day 7.
I guess it all depends on what kind of shape your in, age and if you tapered.
What dose were you on when you quit? Did you taper down first?
Sorry to read about your family problems.
Have you got any plans for staying straight? That has allways been my big problem.
Remember that exercise really helps. Even if you can just walk around the block in the morning or evening when it,s cooler out.
Write back when you can. Theres a lot of folks trying to get off subs and theres also a lot of horror stories. Personally, I,ve never had much problems getting off subs.
It was nothing like an oxy wd. That's just my opinion.
Good luck!

Thanks for the reply and encouragement Jolter. I've been on Suboxone for 4 or 5 years. This medicine has caused me to have lost a lot of money. For the entire time on subs I've always taken 8mg. The last week I started to rip'em in half then I just jumped. My way to stay clean is either I go slip and go back on or get on with life and take care if my kids. My story is almost like everyone else's. I had 4 major hemorrhoid surgeries back to back. I was prescribed percs & Vicodin. Once I started to overcome the pain of the surgery, I stopped the meds and oh boy!!!! I felt crazy. So I didn't understand why I was sweating and having what I found out to be withdrawl. I had never takin pain pills before. I went to my doctor and told him what I was going thru and he said don't sweat it just enjoy it and gave me a script if 250 percs. I came home and and told my husband and he was like your body is hooked on those pills. Long story short, over a 1 year period I was taking 60 pills a day!!!!! I was taking them to feel normal. One day I was in the kitchen and it was my 30th bday and I was taking the pills. My daughter said to me, wow mommy u sure do take a lot of pills. I tried to hide that from them. I didn't think the kids knew. That same day, I checked into rehab. I was off the pills for 3 days. The 4th day I went to a clinical research place and they put a time released suboxone tube in my arm. It was in there for 6 months. When they took it out, I was so scared that I would go thru withdrawl so I went to a suboxone doctor and he's been prescribing them to me. Well now I'm broke!!! $180 per visit and $279 for the meds every month. I'm getting divorced and I have to start from the bottom. I've been wanting to stop the subs for so long. I feel like when I'm on them, I don't feel. I have no freakin emotions.
Today is day 7. I woke up at 3:30am with some crazy emotions. My husband was up doing paperwork. And for some reason, I had this overwhelming feeling to save my marriage. He was like where the hell did that come from. I had been able to keep my addiction of subs from him all this time. He was like oh now you feel like saving the marriage. I felt so damn lightheaded and weird. This withdrawl has my mind racing. My back muscles feel like I've been walked on. I woke up at 7:20 and I just feel emotional. I still must admit, the withdrawl hasn't made me want to give up. I am going to overcome this and get my business back up and running! I have to hold onto to that because I feel like I've lost everything else.

Subsucks,
Good luck with it. Hang in there. You may want to get some exercise. Everyone says it helps a lot. Eat good nutrition. Hydrate. Depression is an auful part of withdrawal but tell yourself that part is temporary. Probably not the best time to make major life decisions like divorce!

Thanks Monkey. My mom dragged me out of the house and im pissed. I just want to lay down and cry. Its not that my body is in pain. I just feel so dang emotional. I know this will past. For some reason i keep waiting for this withdrawal to get worst. Everyone keeps talking about the half life that's gonna kick in. I pray the worst is over. Divorce isn't my decision. It's his. He said i changed into a totally different person. I asked him when and he said in 2009. Thata when i got on suboxone! I have no idea how to fix it. For the first time in our entire relationship, he looks at me different. But, enough about that. It'll just make me cry and if my mom notices it, she'll start preaching and i really cant take her right now. Im gonna force myself to eat and go for a walk. I'll post updates.

Congratulations Subsuck! 10 DAYS! That's fantastic!!! I believe that things get better with sobriety. It might feel like a lot of work and being in touch with yourself might be a little foreign. But without a doubt, being sober is the way to go.
Keep it up!

Hi subsuks, Must be about 12 days by now. Your energy will come back. You jumped from a high dose if I read it correctly. Not the recommended way to come off subs but other folks have done it from even higher dose.
Keep taking walks or any kind of exercise is gonna help.
Your doing great!

Hi Jolter.... Thanks. Im really trying to keep the best of spirits. In feeling better.I guess now all of a sudden, insomnia wants to jump in. I really wish there was something that could be done. My doctor never ever told me about the withdrawal side effects. This isn't right. Anyway...... Thanks so much for the encouragement. It helps so much. How long have you been off?

Hi Subsuck
I totally understand what you are going through, I got to day 20 and last week ended up taking a little piece because I kept thinking it's got to get better but as of day 20 it was still pretty bad. I actually felt fine the first two weeks it was the last week that I was losing my mind. All you want to do is sleep and you can't, can you get anything from someone like a valuim or any benzo will help with sleeping. Just don't take that longer than 3 or 4 days because you don't want to get addicted to that.
I am getting ready to do this again but I am going to be better prepared this time. I have a bottle of tramadol for the first two weeks then I have 10 methadone pills for the last week to push through.
I know that exercise helps but it is really hard when you have no energy, I think taking baths helps with the leg caroms and just trying to stay busy. When you are home doing nothing the day seems to last forever.
Does anyone on here know how long it takes to get your energy back when you get off this stuff? I have been on it for over 6 years so I need someone that has been on it this long and got off to tell me. This stuff has taken over my life, I really hate going through this!

Jill you should jump off now while you still have some for safety, yes the tramadol helps but I made it to day 20 and was still feeling horrible. The first two weeks are smooth sailing it gets worse after that because of the long half life. You can do it though, I am getting ready to start again. I wish I knew where or how to give you some because I have a ton. Get some tramadol though and start now while you stil have a strip left. The first two weeks are going to be easier than you think, after about day 13 or 14 it kicks in. I will be praying for you! Trust me when you have some I think it is in your mind that you could always take it if you need to.

Hi subsuk, I,ve been back on subs a couple months now after relapsing.
I,ve been on and off subs several times in the past so I,ve jumped off subs several times. My problem is staying straight afterwards. The longest that I stayed straight is around 6 months. The shortest time was a few weeks.
The longest I stayed on subs at one time was a little over half a year. The shortest time was about 4 months.
I,ve never had too much trouble getting off subs it,s staying straight afterwards.
The sleep problems will pass eventually. That's why I encourage anyone jumping off subs to get some good sleep meds just for when you really need them.
If you tapered correctly that should just be 2 or 3 nights.
In the past I,ve started taper a week or two after I started subs. Tapering a little each week or so.
This time I,m taking it slower because I,m tired of the rollercoaster ride of getting on subs then off of them then relapsing.
I,m need some surgery done and planning for operation at end of year. I want to be off subs for this.
This operation should take care of my pain issue so I,ll have no reason to be taking pain meds.
Right now the subs are working to dull the pain somewhat along with keeping the urges away. I hate addiction.

Dear jill i wish you could get just a few more strips the 2mg would be great the reason i say this is the slower you taper the better and even skipping days is great but its best to get down as low as possible ive done it several times myself and its best if you go slow i did have a time that i got some missing or stolen but whatever i was out for weeks and couldn't get any i went from 16mg to nothing and its impossible ti handle the wds i thought i was going to die i even went to the hospital to get fluids in an iv it was that bad but im sure you can do this if you do the things we suggested eat foods that gives you energy exercise exercise just do something its the key to getting better try to sleep i know its hard to do but try . Please be very very careful with the tramadol i know they say its not a narcotic but i take a class once a week and there are several people there for that and they start class like a zombie for the first few days until it gets out of their system and its like night and day their personality changes so much and they feel so much better when clean i have started my taper a few days ago and have great hopes to completely get off everything this time my mind is made up and im going to do it this time even if i have to be locked up till i get past everything ive never had more than a few weeks clean in over 13 or 14 years so its going to be something but im going to make it i pray for strength and guidance from GOD and i know he will answer my prayers im 45 and its time for me to get my life together and have a life so many years wasted failed marriages and losing friends the $$$$$ and seeing some of the things ive seen and done its just unreal ive even lost several family members and friends to addiction the thing that really got me was one night laying in bed and my breathing stopped if not for someone coming in i wouldn't be here today but thats when i got on suboxone i have to say it saved my life going from 30+ 1000mg norco to 16mg of suboxone with no wds amazing butbits time for me to move on in life and get off this and be COMPLETELY CLEAN. I have a plan and its going to take some time so please everyone pray for me and ill be praying for you.

Thanks everyone
Steve

32mg of suboxone a day is insane. I was using 100 -120mg of Oxy a day (I know, I'm a lightweight. I can't understand how you people who do 300 -800mg a day can exist doing anything other than drooling while you're snoozing on your toilets.). I did my own research on Suboxone. Found and stashed about 30 8mg strips... and started at half... 4mg. 20 minutes from waking, I felt fine... (**after going thru 18 hours of withdrawal. Take a couple of xanax and sleep through the first 18 hours. 18 hours is the minimum but I've never had a problem starting at that time. After day 2... I thought... what if I cut em into 1/4s (2mg). No difference. Stayed there for a couple of days and thought... how far can I stretch it? I cut the next strip into 6ths 1.3mg). No problem. I cut the next strip into eighths (1mg). I stayed there for a month. Now, less than 3 months in, I'm cutting them into 10ths (.8mg). At this rate. A few more strips down to that magic .25mg stage... and I'm free.

Hi midiman, Sounds like your doing good with your taper plan. I agree that 32mgs of subs is crazy. 120mgs of oxy would only just about get me started in the morning.
I was up to 450-600mgs a day and could function quite well. Go to work and anything else I needed to do. Only a few people knew that I was abusing opiates and they were people that were doing the same thing. It,s called tolerance. It,s amazing how it can build up.
At the level I was on with the oxy it took 12mgs of sub for me to not feel wds.
Of course everyone is different but in my opinion 32mgs of sub is way overdoing it.
A lot of people are trying to get off subs. Post back if you want with how your doing with your plan.
It could help encourage others with there taper.
