How Long After You Stop Suboxone Do You Have Withdrawal Symptoms? (Page 37)

Updated

My 63y/o mother survived chemo and radiation for throat cancer but was unable to stop the morphine 15mg twice a day without horrible withdrawal symptoms. Her MD put her on Suboxone 8mg/2mg once a day in June. She even took half the strip on most days and the doctor was very pleased and anticipated that she would be able to stop altogether in November. She unfortunately had a stroke 14 days ago and has been in the hospital. The first 7 days she was confused from the stroke but now she is weak and forgetful but is no longer disoriented. She told me tonight that she thought she needed her Suboxone. She said she thought she was going thru withdrawal. I was floored. She is not having any outward signs of withdrawal: no back/stomach pain, no nausea/vomiting, no sweating or tremors. Isn't 14 days long enough for the Suboxone to be completely out of your system and for withdrawal symptoms to have come and gone??? Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

Sometimes it's a necessary evil and maybe a better choice than methadone but it is all bad for you. Subutex suboxone methadone it's all bad for your teeth bones etc. It is basically just an opiate like drug that is so long acting that you can put seeking drugs out of your mind therefore have a somewhat normalcy to life. I said this 2 years ago and I will say it again now. " If used properly when coming off opiates in a small dose with about a 10- 12 day taper, it works wonders" . If you have been on it or go on it long term it is just as hard to get off than any opiate. That being said I do not judge those who want to stay on it, it has its place, just be informed.

I'm starting to think she mixed Methadone with Methamphetamine. Hitler and his soldiers used Methamphetamine.

Exactly. The problem isn't the suboxone itself, it's the Drs who prescribe it and their gross misunderstanding of it. Most Drs think that just because it's not your DOC it's not as bad for you but the truth is, there's no need to prescribe it in such high doses for such a long time. If my Dr was upfront with me from the beginning I wouldn't have been so quick to jump on board and in hindsight, I could've kicked tramadol (which is what I was out on subs to get away from) MUCH easier than the subs. For me, the cure was worse than the disease.

I myself am thankful for the suboxen. I never done an entire strip but its still hard for me to kick.
It definitely beats dilaudid withdrawal omg it was awful. I've been needing to go to the doctor for my stomach bladder area pains and see if its due to withdrawals.

It's been hard trying to get off and yes the doctors (mostly) have very little understanding and are in it because it's a cash cow. Why most sub docs won't even accept insurance. But it definitely saved my life. I would have died, been murdered, or gone to jail if I hadn't stopped. I tried to ween myself off opiates several times. For me it was impossible. The wd's were acute and the symptoms were worse than flu like. I'm still tapering but I didn't lose my job, my life or my family while on subs. I'm almost one year off opiates. I'm down to 1mg of sub and I noticed cravings coming back. Now my question is: how do I live in this world sober? I have hobbies and I try to stay constantly busy but it's winter and when things slow down my mind always slides into that same space. Good luck everyone.

If you are having opiate cravings while on the subs, then obviously you are not ready to go off. What good would it do if you go back to those old things that almost destroyed your life. Like I said it is sometimes a necessary lesser evil, in cases like yours. If you need to be on it and are not only on it to avoid withdrawal but because you crave, then you need to find the dose that keeps you from craving. As far as how to live in this world sober? That's different for everyone but exercise and doing things you enjoy helps. Personally for me when I used suboxone I did not feel sober while on it but I was only using it for a 10 day taper to get off opiates I was taking for pain, because All I cared about was not having withdrawal ever again so Maybe someone else can answer that question better than I, but I wish you the best.

Clevelandmig: Suboxone is an opiate! It has caused me chemical induced brain damage (Paresthesia). I have been off of it for 10 months and still suffer major withdrawals. Tapering is a waste of time. Use noloxerene compound for cravings. Have your DR. give you a prescription to have a real pharmacists make it up. $30.. worth lasts two months. Take it daily orally and it tastes like cherries. Better alternative than Vivitrol.

Suboxone is a combination synthetic narcotic ( buprenorphine) with the naloxeren mixed in which is opiate agnostic. So as mentioned above it would definitely help with cravings but only after the withdrawal part subsides.

Hey guys I'm sorry I haven't posted ALL week but it's because I have been kicking ASS. This was the roughest thing I have ever had to do. I am in agreement about the prescribing and that is for sure, I was on vicodin and it would have been easier for me to kick that then this for the mear fact of the anxiety I experied, am still experiencing. But I'm 10 days now, I made it. Last time I jumped from 3 mg and went back 5 days later, made it thru the night but went back on in the morning. When I went back on I went to taking as little as I could and this helped me this time I took the plunge. So I jumped back on at .5mg in the morning, .5 at night was the best I could do. I have been on suboxone since october of 2014 and it was the worst drug I ever used. I am now living with my mother making 10 bucks an hour when I was at my state job for 3 years prior to getting clean and beginning suboxone. My ex husband stabbed me in the back 10 times and I became an addict to pain medication. I was a single mother and I wanted to get things done, things in hindsight that I needed to realize my limitations of capability and make adjustments instead of using. I still remember the first time I got high off pain medication. I constantly battle with myself feeling crazy, frantic, wrestling around, forgetting things. I would go off like mad when I was on suboxone on my boyfriend and unleash the devil b**** (myself) on my mother. I have felt for quite sometime I just didn't have the support I needed to get off the drug, but here I am today and I'm on 10 days. I wish it was 6 months as I hate how crazy I still feel, seeing myself saying the things I do and acting. I am seeing my doctor tomorrow for anxiety and depression. Okay guys, so enough about my story, here is what I did. days 1-2 weren't that bad except you do go into withdrawal faster being on a lower dose. Days 3-5 were PURE HELL. I went to the doctor and was planning to admit thru the ER but they wouldn't accept me, hm, why, they said because it's a prescribed medication I wouldn't be able to get substance abuse treatment. Anyways....the doctor did help me, he gave me a clonidine patch, 0.1 which helped me be more comfortable, he also prescribed me hydroxizine pamote 25mg. He gave me 20 and said take 3 a day, huh, lol, funny s***, so the benadryl makes you have WORSE RSL guys I evaluated the theory, my suggestion would be try to get the hydroxizine. It helped me get some sleep. Last time I jumped I couldn't sleep a wink 3 days, which when you start to lose your head is when you spiral. Okay, so I did NOT TAKE 3 A DAY, and i also did not only take those things. I took vitamins, anti-diarrheals, ibuprofen 200mg x 4 every 4 hours, tylenol, no caffeine. I had to get a refill on the hydroxizine, I ended up taking about 6-7 a day of those, went thru 40 pills in 6 days, but the doctor did give me more of them. I also ran out on day 6 and had to take some trazodone because I didn't want to ask for another refill, but that got me thru the next couple days in combination with a little bit of benadryl, not more then 2 at a time FOLKS, I also had the worst dry mouth ever bc of the antihistimine, the anti hystimine helps you not have so much loose stools in combination with the vitamins. I found it also helped and still does to listen to music when I got sad, I walked up and down the stairs and did leg lifts, even though I could barely bring myself to get out of bed. Keeeeeppppp going guys, it's so worth it, even on today feeling like s***, it's worth it because of how I felt on day 8, that was a good day. Your pain and body aches really start to get better too. Oh yah, one more thing, my boyfriends mom told me about this thing called sun breeze essential oils and she rubbed some on my back and I put it on my thighs thinking maybe it would help the RLS, I WAS ABLE TO GET 6 HOURS OF SLEEP because of it, it really works, I am going to buy another bottle and start using that every morning. Might sound stupid but dancing helped me yesterday with my kids and my boyfriends listening to up-beat music, it produces endorphins. Please feel free to respond guys. I am SO HAPPY I WAS SUCCESSFUL THIS TIME. It really helps to have people to tell who understand what I am going thru, please get me out of this nightmare! I pray that I will, I know I will once again be me, a better me, I also prayed to my higher power every day and I sometimes just had to go out in my car and scream at the top of my lungs, I talk to myself when I'm driving, lol.

Was on suboxone about 1.5 yrs. Took about 3 wks. for it to be completely out of my system. The withdrawal was so bad- I just couldn't help but get me some blow for relief. I could tell by the way the blow affected me- that the suboxone was gone-'so glad. When folks get off suboxone- drs. need to give them a small Rx for valium or xanax.

Rebekah that sounds awful what happened to you. I don't know if you believe in God but I believe you were here for a reason. You have came so far in this life and every step He has held your hand. You have went through a lot of troubles kicking pain medicine, to anxiety and depression, to kicking suboxone. I love your story the positive outcome that has came. I love that you were able to push yourself to dance and have fun. That is the best thing ever. I myself know all about the depression and anxiety. Me and my boyfriend both lost our jobs and have been stuck in the house for months. God answered my prayer and got me started on an at home job. The worst is the anxiety now because of the job. But it keeps me so occupied. I feel I could quit it quicker.

Great job Rebekha, so true about the dancing!, When I was going through the withdrawal I also found that dancing like crazy until I was exaugsted worked so well. I remember the pharrell song " happy" had just come out and like you I was shouting to the roof tops that I actually felt " happy" for the first time in a long time.
Good for you and p.s. Clonidine works great for withdrawal for all flushing and even severe hot flashes

My experience with suboxone- I would not recommend it to anyone. You feel so crappy when you first get off of it that you can't help but go runnin for the blow. Will elaborate more later.I would recommend the Subitex. However, if it's a choice between Suboxone or methodone- I'd go with the methodone. Like I said- will elaborate more later.

Hey guys it's me doing a quick update, I have had some of the most powerful urges ever since coming off suboxone but hang in there people we do recover and although it seemed like one day all I thought about was pain medicine I made it thru the day and didn't use. Ever day is a struggle but everyday I have made it. Today I'm fourteen days. I can barely sit still sometimes but I'm not going back because I know it will only be harder next time and my head and body were so messed up on sub's I have been reading out in an and texted every single person on my list yesterday. Also had to attend an as group because the town I now live in is so small they only have na twice a week. It helped some. I also bought some more vitamins lol I have been taking supplements like mad lol. Amino acids are supposed to increase your endorphins so try getting some of those. Hoping I feel better soon. Guys I have to say this is the longest my system has been without opiates or sub's in over two years. Please pray for me. Still strong!

My doctor has been pretty helpful, do you think he would help me out with this and I could benefit from it? My brain is really f***ed up. I couldn't even finish eating dinner with my daughter last night, I had to take our food to go.
