How Long After You Stop Suboxone Do You Have Withdrawal Symptoms? (Page 24) (Top voted first)

Updated

My 63y/o mother survived chemo and radiation for throat cancer but was unable to stop the morphine 15mg twice a day without horrible withdrawal symptoms. Her MD put her on Suboxone 8mg/2mg once a day in June. She even took half the strip on most days and the doctor was very pleased and anticipated that she would be able to stop altogether in November. She unfortunately had a stroke 14 days ago and has been in the hospital. The first 7 days she was confused from the stroke but now she is weak and forgetful but is no longer disoriented. She told me tonight that she thought she needed her Suboxone. She said she thought she was going thru withdrawal. I was floored. She is not having any outward signs of withdrawal: no back/stomach pain, no nausea/vomiting, no sweating or tremors. Isn't 14 days long enough for the Suboxone to be completely out of your system and for withdrawal symptoms to have come and gone??? Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you. I'm trying to get off subs. I'm scared as hell. This wasn't suppose to happen. It wasn't planned. Was taking opits and didn't want to take them so tried subs. Worst mistake of my life. I'm tired of feeling like this. I'm going to start the process.

Hi every one
I am about to quit suboxone next week. I have been using it for about two years now. Two questions, first isnt it better to tapper it down rather than giving it cold turkey?my doctor gives ne all the time the courage and brings many examples of people who quited it easily but frankly speeking i am doubtful since i have two insuccessful experiences. Second question is that what pills or natural materials will help reducing the symptoms?

I would cut down these last two weeks to at least 1/4 to 1/8 of a strip it's going to be hard but it sure helped me when I actually stopped. I tapered from one 2mg strip down to 1/8 in 3 weeks. It was really hard the last week I was so moody. And then when I stopped my doctor gave me clonidine and Valium and zofran for nausea but I didn't have nausea I was actually eating anything in sight. Lol I guess my body reacted differently then they expected I actually gained 6lbs going off. I was only off work for 10 days and was able to go back no problem. I've now been off suboxone 3 months. Only side effects I'm having is still my sleeping at night wake up in middle of night and can't go back to sleep! I also get kinda moody from time to time. But things will get better. Now as far as natural stuff goes I took l-tyrosine and b6 combo. And I also get b12 injections. My side effects coming off were basically restless legs, which walking helps, and not being able to sleep at night. Hot cold sweats too, and feeling I want to crawl outta my skin. But those symptoms only lasted the first few days after that it was just more fatigue. It's different for everyone though I was told my expierence was pretty mild and I was on suboxone for 5 years. Anyways good luck to you and try to stay positive the feelings won't last forever! I'm 3 months off and I've never been happier in my life! And never going back! Take care of yourself!

My doctor said I wasn't ready to quit. I tried a taper on my own and stopped seeing that doctor, he was typical sub farm that wouldn't take insurance and wanted you on a high dose forever. Now I'm looking for help and no doctor wants to help me. I can't seem to get myself past 2mg without having extreme pain in my joints, nonstop bm's, and absolutely sleepless nights. I wanted to be off before my wife gives birth to my first child. I'm depressed and lost over this. It's way better than my opiate addiction but hopeless in its own way.

Did you ever get any withdrawal symptoms? Or did they eventually hit you. If so how long after you quit?

Tommy I would definitely see a doctor about this! You should not be in this much pain after this long. Whatever you do Do Not get on any opiates or subutex or suboxone again. But maybe your doctor could help you with something non narcotic. I'm so sorry you're still going through this. Some people believe subutex is So Much better because it only has one ingredient. Not True. If you are on it for a long period of time withdrawal will be just as bad as suboxine. I swear that stuff is just Evil. I am now on day 56 clean from sub's. and feel so much better! It can be done. I'm back to my normal sleeping patterns and am Enjoying Life to it's fullest. I have 2 children and have missed So much :( but am definitely making up for it now :) Hang in there buddy and Please go see a doctor.....

The amount of misinformation about SUBOXONE and other opiates, drugs in general and withdrawals is enormous. The drug inserts try to double talk regarding physical dependence and addictive. The only difference is cravings. Gabapentin is physically dependent as is lyrica and many other drugs, but NOT ADDICTIVE. THIS IS ALL DOUBLE TALK.

VIVITROL is another joke. Instead of taking a shot once a month for $1,0000 you can get a months supply of nolexerene for $15 and take 2 ml daily to achieve the same result. My Psychiatrist prescribed it for me but it only really deals with cravings which is not a problem for me.

I am going on ten months and have not had a normal day. If I was not retired going to work would be almost impossible. Hats off to the ones who are going through this and going to work on a daily basis. We all have our own opinions on what to take for relief. I am not taking anything as each alternative to provide relief is generally physically dependent so why go from one problem to another. Realistically it actually takes two years for your brain to rewire and for you to return to normal and eliminate the PAWS. PAWS is a relatively new concept to distance the drug from the scrutiny it deserves.

There are much better alternatives than SUBOXONE. I rather shake for 5 days off of the short half life opiates than go through months of withdrawals from SUBS. The FDA is making rounds in Michigan trying to get the licensed SUBOXONE providers to stop supplying it. This information came from both my Psychiatrist and Toxicologist.

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to everyone. I will keep you in my prayers.

I agree that the temporary pain of opiate withdrawal would be much preferred to the long drawn out hell or sub withdrawal. The Drs that prescribe it purposely forget to leave that part out in the induction appointment. My sub Dr talked about suboxone like it was as harmless as a blood pressure med or something similar. Take it everyday until you feel better and stop when you're ready. The few times that I told him I was going into withdrawals each time I weened my dosage he basically laughed at me. I quit at 2mgs a day because he told me I could expect mild cold like symptoms but after 72 hours I would be 100%. He couldn't have been more off the mark if he tried. It's a crime that they prescribe these meds so freely without so much as a thought about the person that they're giving them to.

Today marks day 10!!! No anything!! The last thing I too was a 8mg/2mg sub on 12/28/15.. I feel pretty good.. just have had a slight runny nose whenever it wants to and sometimes I get a little anxious... but I will take that crap any day over the hardcore withdraws.. I'm still just waiting for it to hit me all at once.. how long before I will have a clean u/a..? I took a drug panel on the 6th day of not taking anything and was still dropping dirty for suboxone... so how long til it's out of my body..? I was on it for almost 2 years... welp.. have a good day everyone! =)

Jeez, Pfan34, how I feel for you!
I stopped tramadol twice, once by overdosing and being hospitalised in ICU with MDR pneumonia for 4 weeks. Long story, not as simplified as it sounds. But heartbreaking.
Another time I was addicted to codeine, used tramadol to wean off. Was using 16 capsules a day, and successfully tapered to zero. Over about 2 months.
The last and worst and most f#£%ibg stupid time (I have no real excuses that I choose to use) I was back up to 50+ capsules a day. I had to take 30 to get"straight" enough to go see the psychiatrist who recognized how far gone I was, and put me on Subs at 8mg daily. That's 50-80 capsules a day to 8mg Suboxone! I really had no choice by that point, and Suboxone certainly saved my life. If it ends in a life long dependence, then that is still better than the alternative - at the rate that I was going death was certain.
So I paid the price and am off to my first NA session today, to try making some steps back to proper sobriety. I agree with Tommy, at first Suboxone made me feel positive, productive and able. Long term it sucks the life from you. Users know what I mean.
So yeah, Pfan34 you were certainly overprescribed, but good for you for having the strength to come off it. I commend you and envy you!
Best wishes to all.

Two years. And I still had withdrawal.

I went to detox off opiates and got put on 8mg/2mg suboxone a day. Cut myself down after a week to 4mg every other day. Then after 2 weeks cut down to 2mg every other day, then to 2mg every third day a week after that. Trying to stop suboxone completely after another week, I experienced minor withdrawals, which got worse after 5 days. I experienced no withdrawals at all after that. I know, it sounds ridiculous, but that is my experience.

I myself am a small girl going through suboxone withdrawals.
I was taking 8mg dilaudids idk how many a day I just did it when I wanted them for about a year. One day I stopped taking them and starting having what I thought was the flu..I couldn't get out of bed if I did was puking. I was at a motel for one night from the winter storm after work, ended up staying there for three days simply because I could not get out of bed. I soon realized I developed my addiction. Then my biggest fear I couldn't get anymore. I finally got suboxone which coated me an arm and a leg.
I have started tapering down and now on my very last 8 mg strip. Right now Im down to a corner piece a day just enough to get me up in the morning but does not last long. I feel it wears off fast. Keep in mind I never done an entire strip not even half at a time cause it was too much for me made me sick.
Anyway it is still very uncomfortable but I am happy to be doing one tiny tiny piece a day about the size of this "O".
After a couple hours I start feeling the awful tired feeling like someone is sitting on my chest and the cramps, indigestion feeling, achy restless legs, but NOWHERE near my first initial withdraws before tapering down. I have yet to go a day without any. Although I read people can not sleep, I don't have a problem with sleeping as I will yawn my face off during a withdrawal. If anything I can make myself sleep through them which really helps! Only thing I can't really do is eat if I feel that breathless feeling. If I do its not much. Anyway I'm so happy to feel this at on one tiny piece! I can only believe I'm getting better and not think about what's going to happen next. I have no choice but to quit being broke but I WANT to quit. I don't want to worry about my life being controlled.

Well guys, I'm on day one and I'm scared as hell. This has truly been one rollercoaster ride even being on the medication. Lets see I'm now bi-polar lol, anyone else feel that way. I'm going into tomorrow and i'm scared but what I really need is to be on Day 5 i'm a single mom and I have crisis care and my mom is going to help and my boss and i pray to god I can beat this thing. I heard 10 days you begin feeling somewhat normal again but when I read others posts I'm not sure.

You are experiencing restless leg syndrome. It runs in my family and happens the worst when kicking opiates. I dont know the reason why but thats what it is. Its ran in my family for years before there was a name for it. There is meds for it. Its actually a type of parkinsons disease i guess...

I read that drinking a lot of Vitamin C and eating sugary snacks like m&ms help a lot. I've tried it before and it helped me a bit but that was before I went through daily withdrawal. Idk how you all are just quitting I can't get out of bed without my Lil tiny piece. One day. One day soon.
