How Long After You Stop Suboxone Do You Have Withdrawal Symptoms? (Page 23) (Top voted first)

Updated

My 63y/o mother survived chemo and radiation for throat cancer but was unable to stop the morphine 15mg twice a day without horrible withdrawal symptoms. Her MD put her on Suboxone 8mg/2mg once a day in June. She even took half the strip on most days and the doctor was very pleased and anticipated that she would be able to stop altogether in November. She unfortunately had a stroke 14 days ago and has been in the hospital. The first 7 days she was confused from the stroke but now she is weak and forgetful but is no longer disoriented. She told me tonight that she thought she needed her Suboxone. She said she thought she was going thru withdrawal. I was floored. She is not having any outward signs of withdrawal: no back/stomach pain, no nausea/vomiting, no sweating or tremors. Isn't 14 days long enough for the Suboxone to be completely out of your system and for withdrawal symptoms to have come and gone??? Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

TommyC Ultram aka Tramadol was created for doctor shopping drug seeking people and became an issue.

It is literally a mixed agonist, antagonist so like old school drugs (Talwin) can cause a person also taking straight agonist (opioids) withdrawal can occur.

Unfortunately many physicians doing pain management get asked for this and you are negating the benefit of your agonist (opioids) for pain by taking this dangerous drug.

It increases the seizure threshold and this in and of itself can lead to CVA and cardiac issues. It is not worth it to take this drug.

Stuck I wrote a lengthy response it is important to get you another physician.

Clearly this one is upsetting you creating a reduction with him/her seems futile yes.

Hang in there.

Hopefully they will post my long one soon.

I was taking Suboxone for about 6 or 7 months on and off. I would get 2 8mg strips on a Friday night and then take one Friday and the the second one on Saturday. Then I wouldn't take them for a week or two sometimes. I would take Kratom though. I finally decided to stop and I had withdrawal symptoms. They were RLS, insomnia, depression, anxiety and extreme tiredness. I have not taken one in about a month but I have been taking Kratom everyday and I had planned in weening of those and be through with it all once and for all. I just took one suboxone and the next day it made sick. I wad throwing up and slept all day. Today I feel alright. I want to know if I will experience withdrawals from suboxone again when it gets out off my symptoms in about 3-4 more days?

I am so happy for you that you were actually able t remain strong-willed and hang in there with the suboxone. I am a chronic pain pt,my Dr left town so I began the methadone clinic(even though I truly feel I do not belong there). The people t very nice,I'm not being judgemental..its just the program doesn't help 'me',being drug addict based.. Hoping very soon I get into a new chronic pain Dr though! But for now I'm doing as I must just to make it,nothing more, nothing off the streets of course...Still in pain, will always have y deal with after surviving a horrible car wreçk unfortunately.. But Hey:)..happy2b here! Anyway, what I would like 2ask is...does suboxone/or subutex help chronic pain as well? Thanks for any input ahead of time!!

Thoebe the brain DOES know and there is a reason why.

Ultram was created for addicts not for pain. It raises seizure threshold and is a danger on other levels. It is a mixed agonist antagonist.

Agonist would be drugs such as Oxycodone or Hydrocodone and Morphine.

Antagonist is a drug that reverses the agonist in part leaving the person poorly controlled and potentially in withdrawal.

The only reason it is now controlled is some people susceptible to addiction thought it caused a high it causes closer to anxiety and other issues then euphoria and is piss poor for pain control.

Also I wanted to let you guys know how I'm doing on my 10th day. It almost feels like my 8th day which was Great. Then yesterday took a few steps back and just felt like crap again. The restless leg came back last night with a vengeance :( I only got a few hours of sleep but that a hell of a lot better than none! It's pretty early here. I gotta get my daughter up soon and take her to school. I really don't wanna go anywhere but whenever I push myself to go out (just for under an hour) I do feel So Much Better!! Gonna go take my vitamins that I had mentioned yesterday. An Drink Lots and Lots of water. Stomach still feels pretty bad, still a little hot and cold but at least the sweating has stopped. My shirts the first 7 days were Always soaked with sweat Ugh glad that part is over. Oh hot bathes with ebson salt help A Lot too! I couldn't even get in the tub the first 6 or 7 days. I just couldn't stand Freezing when it come time to get out. So far through this I have lost 10lbs which puts me at 123lbs. Cause I either can't eat. Don't want to ect. But the last couple days I made myself eat little things. Like some grapes, cereal and crackers. Well I'll try to write in this evey couple days to let you see that it really doesn't last Forever. Yes it lasts a long time but just look at it as your body is fixing itself. Good Luck to all and God blese

Make sure you taper Very slowly! If I was you I'd go down to 1/12mg for 3 days then stay on 1 mg for 2 days. Then 1/2 mg for 2 or 3 days then 1/4 mg for about 3 days then if you have any left over cut them smaller than the 1/4th (tiny tiny pieces) and keep taking that for as many days as possible. Then jump. It's still gonna be pretty hard but have faith in yourself! If I have come this far I know you can and will!!!! Just remember the pain is only temporary. Good Luck to you. And Pray Pray Pray.

The buprenorphine has a healthy half-life of 36 hrs. This means that symptoms of withdrawal should last the better part of a month. For longtime users, symptoms of opioid withdrawal may be present after 45 days.

Well today I am on day 11 :) I feel pretty good this morning. Still having stomach issues, and was really hard to get to sleep but once I finally fell asleep I slept like a baby. I think the melatonin helped. Plus I took some Valerian Root which I think helped tremendously! I was so worried I'd wake up feelin horrible again but Nope. I feel pretty happy. I've found that Music helps A Lot too! I'm finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and it feels GREAT!!!!!! EVERYONE GOING THROUGH THIS DO NOT GIVE UP! IT CAN BE DONE.
GOD BLESS you all

Ur so lucky!! I been on so much suboxone for last 8.5yrs @20mg per day. B4 this I was using H, OC, a few vics but not a fan of hydrocodone. makes me itchy and red! Anyways I use a reg. dose of 10mg Ambien or 30mg Temazepam for sleep as needed and helps w/ restless legs, muscle cramps, etc... I would not recommend this 4 everyday use but I deff. would look into it for the people having a ridiculously hard time getting off and or for the onset of PAWS!! its not a cure all by any means as these can become just as addicting or more!! Stay strong, exercise when poss. think positive thoughts and listening to ur fav. music helps as well. stay around people that don't use any Op's or other drugs of ur choice and this will also help. Erase all old hooks and phone #s away and make sure to toss away all unused suboxone/subutex or figure something out!! I been off subox for one month after almost 9yrs and Im still up and dwn but like the other person said I cant wait to feel like myself again. also get off slowly!! the more u use the longer, and stronger the the w/d symptoms will be so take care everyone and if this only helps even one person its well worth it!

Tommy C I think it's different for everyone, I've been off subs for almost 2 months and my accute withdrawal symptoms have subsided, and no paws anymore either. My sleep patterns are slowly coming back to normal I was on subs for 5 years but only had opiate addiction for 2 years. So I feel so great now, some days I'm a little moody but I keep the task at hand. I work and stay busy, eat well, exercise, and get out with people as much as I can ! I actually don't feel anixiety around people anymore, I used to never go out anywhere on subs now I feel like I'm me again! I laugh more than I ever have. I feel like subs numbed me of who I really am for past 5 years. Good luck to anyone getting off , it's a great step! And remember everyone's expierence will be different I came off subs at 0.25mg and heavy withdrawals only lasted about 10 days. Then I was at least Able to function. So everyone will expierence a different withdrawal depending on ur health, what mg u jump off at, how strong you are, so hope this helps !

Im in michigan too and i just switched from 7 years of 2- 8/2 suboxones, to one subtex and one half of a suboxone. So they are not off the market. I know the withdrawl from suboxone is unthinkably horrifying but it has saved my life from a 20year hardcore opiate addiction. The only thing that did it. So im just hoping i can get off all this stuff soon...

I would suggest at least checking your facts which are way off. Subutex is still legal. Half the people in my IOP are on it. It is hard, but we all knew we would have to pay the piper eventually. I'm having a hard time to come off but there's no choice in it now. And compared to what I felt coming off opiates, I'd still take this. But that's my opinion. Good luck everyone.

FYI. The top post about his mother is over 3 years old! Look at the date. All people have here is to post their stories and hope to find some relief and / or help someone else. On this site you will find some facts as well as opinions, but most of all sharing of stories, as we all try and find some comfort in the midst of addiction and withdrawal.

Subutes or subuxone also call BUPS. They are the hardest drugs to kick if on a long period of time. MY personal opinion. If you just started taper off slow if you have been on for years taper off slow.
Go to a Doctor be honest and tell him what you are trying to do.May he have mercy and give you some sleep aids and something for the PAWS. Good luck I was on since 2008 and am now on 1 8mg subutex,I am allergic to naltrexone so I get subutex
I could write a book . Good luck to all

Thank you for your insite!! I myself was a heavy herion user for 6 years. Using 3-4 grams a day and decited just two months ago it I need to make a change. At jist 24 years old I have liver problems from my choice of life. I am now on subs. Which in my book is a miracle drug if you are truly ready to make a change as I was. The doctpr told me to make at least a year to be on subs just to make sure I dont go back to craving the dope. But I on the other hand have witnessed detox from them and am ready to stop myself. You suggestions really helped me. Thank you from another addict to one from the bottum of my heart.

Burn: My advise is to get off of Suboxone as fast as you can. I was on for too long and am in my seventh month of acute withdrawals. Either use it very very short term or plan on using it for life. A very smal single digit percent of the users are able to break free from this drug. Everyone says "if I had only known". I only know two other people other than myself who were successful getting through the withdrawals. The three off were 5 year users and the withdrawals before PAWS last from 8 to nine months. Again everyone reacts differently as is their history of drug use.

I have been on suboxone for 10 days. Prior to starting the suboxone I was taking about 60 MG of oxy a day. My last dose of suboxone was yesterday and I do not plan to take anymore. While taking suboxone for ten days, I cut the dosage down every couple of days. Yesterday I only took about 1 MG. How bad will the withdrawals be and how long will they last?
