A small percentage of people develop a rash and must discontinue this drug. The most serious adverse effect is a hypersensitivity syndrome consisting of fever, skin rash, eosinophilia, hepatitis, worsened renal function, and, in some cases, allopurinol hypersensitivity syndrome. Allopurinol is one of the drugs commonly known to cause Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TENS), two life-threatening dermatological conditions. Allopurinol can cause severe pancytopenia if given with azathioprine or mercaptopurine, due to inhibition of xanthine oxidase, which m...
I found two large grey capsuls with no identifying print on them. They are from a Prescription my husband took at one time for gout, I believe. No Print at all on them. ## If there are no markings on them, it is going to be difficult to determine exactly what they contain. We can rule them out as being a U.S. manufactured prescription drug, because they are all required to have an imprint to enable their identification. However, it could be any one of a large number of over the counter products that are marketed to help treat, or prevent gout. Does anyone else have any ideas?
IS THERE A COUPON I CAN GET TO HELP ON COST OF COLTRAZINE? ## The drug name "coltrazine" does not show up under any searches with enough information proving that this is the name of a drug. Because of this I can't locate any coupons under this name... Did you mean to say Colchicine by chance? Colchicine's medicinal use is in the treatment of gout and familial Mediterranean fever; it can also be used as initial treatment for pericarditis and preventing recurrences of the condition, despite dosing issues concerning its toxicity. Let me know if this sound like a match… If it does, there are some coupons available: I hope this helps! ## THANK YU VERY MUCH FOR THE INFO
what is the shelf life of the new drug colcrys, which has replaced colchcine ## Is there not an expiration date on the bottle of your prescription? The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires that expiration dates be placed on "most" prescription and over-the-counter medications. The expiration date is a guarantee from the manufacturer that a medication will remain stable and effective prior to the date. Most medications do retain most of the potency after the expiration date. However, it is best to adhere to the expiration dates. Because Colcrys appears to be another brand name of Colchicine, I just based my findings off of Colchicine to retrieve more information in searches. Although information on this subject is limited, I did find one user who stated that he stored Colch...

a doctor once prescribed a small round pink pill about the size of a 200 mg ibouprofen. it was prescribed to me for my gout and it worked very well as i took it only when i had an attack. i was out of town at the time and now i no longer have the bottle of the doctors name. please help. ## The way a pill looks is entirely up to the whit and whim of the company making it, so unfortunately there are many, many pills on the market, both over the counter and prescription that could meet the description of a round pink pill. The only thing I can suggest is if your in the area sometime, to drop by the building and see if they can pull up any medical records you had there. Likewise, I would think that any local doctor's office that you are currently at would be able to pull up your medical...

I have been using allopurin for about 12 months now as a gout relief treatment. I have noted that I have been getting outbreaks of rashes - brownish red spots, slightly raised which develop into dry, flaky skins patches - concentrated around the lower back, and upper buttock. This has become concerning now as they have now spread to the legs as well as under the arms. My wife says it is the Puricos (allopurin) and thinks I must discontinue. Any comment or view ## Have you consulted your doctor? It is rare, but Allopurinol can cause a rash, in some people and, when it does, they usually do have to discontinue use of it.
