Is there not an expiration date on the bottle of your prescription?

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires that expiration dates be placed on "most" prescription and over-the-counter medications. The expiration date is a guarantee from the manufacturer that a medication will remain stable and effective prior to the date. Most medications do retain most of the potency after the expiration date. However, it is best to adhere to the expiration dates.

Because Colcrys appears to be another brand name of Colchicine, I just based my findings off of Colchicine to retrieve more information in searches.

Although information on this subject is limited, I did find one user who stated that he stored Colchicine in the freezer for 15 years and it never lost its potency. Other reports state that they have stored the drug at room temperature for 10 years with no apparent degradation in its effectiveness. Controversially, for a handful of others it did not retain any effectiveness after 3 years.

Unfortunately, in any medical situation, a patient has to be their own best advocate; so the only way to find out is to actually try it.
