Gabapentin Withdrawals (Page 8)
UpdatedI'm being taken off of Neurontin/Gabapentin after seven years. I'm now crying, anxious, and itching all over! I have tried antihistamines and cortisone creams but with no relief.
hi @Sandy
I wanted to know in my last post, why your pharmacist told you not to take magnesium?
Pregs is a calcium channel blocker, so magnesium opposes calcium and helps.
Sorry you were takeen off it too quickly
I was on 600mg at xmas and am now on 226mg a day
life flo magnesium oil transdermally to bypass bowel. twice a day
Hugs to you all going through gabby withdrawals. I'm tapering pregabalin and valium at the same time. I hope to be off pregabalin in a couple months.
He didn't say why but I trust him!!! He just felt I didn't need it.
Good Luck
I have been clean off gabapentin for 8 months, I am most certain that I could not have detoxed from this satan drug without supplementing with magnesium. There is no way. That stuff was a life saver. Also, taking baths with Epsom salt, I even went as far as using warm Epsom salt water as a mouth rinse twice a day. I'd take the magnesium. It will help. It will do wonders.
AJ84
I'm tapering off pregabalin and I am also in agreement with you.
I use magnesium oil, to bypass the gut.
The idea of epsom salt mouth washes is also good, and also the idea of epsom salt baths.
I use life-flo magnesium oil which I apply twice a day, but there are many different brands, and if you look online, it shows you how to make your own, which saves a lot of money. Orally mag glycinate is the best as you don't get the runs. I use mag malate for when i want a laxative because, although it doesn't usually give you the runs, i have constipation occasionally, so two of the source naturals ones helps that.
Good luck Chrissy, it's rough. After what I went through, and I tapered myself off, without the help of medical professionals. I was using the drug without it being prescribed. Taking more than 4 300mg capsules a night. I got pregnant and to quit them quickly. So, I did what I call a fast taper. I stopped taking them all together in a 3 day period. This forum saved my life! I would have never made it without the help of everyone here. It was pure hell for a good 3-4 months. But, I feel fine now, and I have a beautiful healthy - month old daughter. I will, however, NEVER take another of this medication. I'd rather deal with pain than the withdrawls from this crap. Should be taken off the market. Anyway, good luck. It's hard, but you got this!
That's awesome news..I have been off a high dose of Gabby since February..feeling much better but still having some acid reflux, chest pain from that and stomach issues..hoping it too goes away soon..its not s nice drug at all..
Thanks @AJ84 for the good luck, it will come in useful, so I appreciate it. The magnesium is a miracle, dunno what i'd do without it. I take oral as well as transdermal, as I sometimes need oral. Sorry it was rough for you. Prizer have behaved very badly with this drug, there's a whole legal saga, if you google, you'll find some info on it. I could never manage moods and emotions to get me though the day. I drank for years, then hit the drugs, methamphetamine, opiates, benzos, currently addicted to those too. But, helpfully, recently a psychiatrist spotted Borderline Personality Disorder and C-ptsd although he said the latter is not recognized but it's kinda in with BPD. Sorry if I repeat myself, I also have suspected ADHD, so I find some tasks real difficult, but my drug use prevented them from getting an accurate assessment, but these observations and diagnoses have helped me realize why I find life and getting along with people so hard. I have to be a doormat to avoid conflict, and life hurts, so I self medicate, but at least, I know why now, I have a personality disorder, and its kinda relieving to know I am not just a hedonist. I don't use recreationally. I did with booze but not drugs. I use to come up to baseline so I can go about my day without breaking down or falling apart as I cannot handle stress well and freak out.
I'm really glad this forum has saved your life, sorry it had to be over three days, but baby comes first and you did it, but sorry you felt bad. Herbal medicine is as good or better than allopathic. Allopathic medicine, conventional medicine is about 2000 yrs old but herbal medicine, well, that's thousands of generations old, tribal folk know far more than us even though the more bigoted see them as savages.
Hiya,
I am not sure if you are still on this site but I stumbled across it and hope you are as you seem to really know your stuff with regards to REMAG.. I am currently on Gabapentin for anxiety and the side effects are horrific, and maybe worse than anxiety itself..I want to taper off but have already come down by 100mg and am feeling pretty awful..I spoke with a customer services person at Dr Dean's office and they recommended Remag and Remyte...I am in the UK and it is more expensive here so a huge outlay for me, but if it works then of course priceless.. I would really appreciate your advice on it if you have the time.. Many thanks.
I used remag. Or a rendition of it even. I ordered mine off amazon. Was like 20 dollars. But, of course, I'm in America, so I don't know what it would cost you in UK. You can research it though. Remag helped a lot. Because, your body actually gets 99 percent of the magnesium. Usually wouldn't with regular over the counter capsules. I would most defiantly do the Epsom salt soaks too. They helped me more than anything I do believe. That, and Epsom salt water mouth rinses. Also walking and drinking a to. Of water helped me. The worst part for me was the depression feeling, crying out bursts for no reason. :( it's crazy. I have been addicted to many things in the past, but thankfully I have managed to come off them all, but this, was by far the worst. I honestly do not know how they can legally prescribe this stuff to anyone. Anyway, yea, I'd go for the remag, or a generic version. If I could, I'd mail you the rest of the one I used. I'll find the name of it and get back to you
Awww Caroline Dean's stuff. I thought of that, but I thought of the profit margin. I ordered some flakes and am gonna get some distilled water from Halfords and make my own mag oil when the ones I have run out, cos I bought three. I use loads, the bath has a nice white coating which I have to wash off. I would urge you to get your own flakes and make your own, its absorbed much better transdermally. It might cost you £1 or $1.20 roughly for a spray can, depending on the exchange rate. I'm keeping my empty spray cans to put my home made oil in. Nah, I keep away from over the counter capsules. Mag malate helps me sleep, and helps me go to the loo if I have enough of it, when bunged up, cos I take opiates some days as my mood is so low I cannot get thru the day with my conditions. Too tough. I'll try epsom salt soaks, but maybe stick to footbaths, cos I can't afford to keep taking baths, I'm on a water meter, have a low income so I save water like mad, not flushing "if it's yellow, let it mellow, if it's brown, flush it down' kinda thing and my water bill went down from £21 a month to £13 a month.
I can do the foot soaks with epsom though, I'm sure they will do me good and also keep my feet super clean as its mag chloride a form of salt, so I would assume, antibacterial. I'll try epsom salt mouth water rinses, will have to look up concentration of epsom salts to water, got a big tub of epsom. I get a lot of uti's, so I do drink when my wee smells funny. I also use a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water to flush me out, but it has to be the ACV with the sediment in the bottom, from the 'mother' apple. I get outbursts of crying. I hope I am not due a cut in my pregabalin. I want off, I've been tapering since christmas, but like you, I get crying outbursts too, and it cannot be the benzos, cos I wasn't on them long, and I am familiar with benzo addiction, having been once addicted already.
I am dosing pregab 5 x daily which is a bit of a pain, but the duration of action is so short, 5 x a day dosing really helps keep blood levels same, rather than one big dose of 214 mg in the morning, I take 42.8ml 5 x a day, and tomorrow, it will be 42.6ml and so on, hopefully down to Omg. If I start burning up or having pregab/gabba headaches I will reduce my daily cut size. So far though, this taper method I devised is working great and if it is a success, I will make it more public to others, so they can choose to try it if they want. I have my own views how they can legally prescribe this stuff, because humans, esp those in power, seem to want to make us sicker. I say that because of a number of videos I have read and a whole load of articles. I keep getting addicted to drugs, and drink. Been off drinking for nearly 11wks now, one the one hand, I miss it and am gutted i cant drink anymore, but on the other hand, it makes me feel too vulnerable, messes up my head and the thought of how I will feel afterwards has put me off drinking for the last 70+ days, and I hope it lasts forever. I hope i become happy without drinking or drugs, I will find a way. Now I know I am borderline and cptsd and poss adhd, that helps enormously, as drug-addiction is a symptom of all three, yet treatment cannot commence while I am addicted to drugs. The old "Stop throwing up in my surgery please, because I cannot fix your stomach till you stop throwing up", when the patient goes to the doctor cos of the very fact he is throwing up and the sickness is a symptom his stomach needs fixing. An analogy to illustrate the kafkaesque nature of 'treatment' for the drug addicted mentally ill such as myself.
Hi - I fancy remag might be a gimic, having experienced the benefit of normal magnesium oil. I know my pregabalin taper would be much more difficult without it. The good news is gabapentin is fat soluble, so you can liquefy it and take off tiny doses each day like I described above with my pregabalin. I use water though cos pregab is water soluble. Sorry you're feeling pretty awful, hope you are ok soon. Get some magnesium oil, its best absorbed through the skin, you won't regret it, it relaxes your muscles and everything. I bet Dr Dean recommended remag, I know she knows her stuff on magnesium, but i cant help thinking she is making a buck on this remag stuff, when mag chloride and water are as good, and apparently so is epsom salt mouth rinses and baths. Go on youtube to see how to make mag oil, get yourself some spray bottles, get some mag chloride pure flakes and some distilled water from halfords and you'll save a fortune.
if you want transdermal, imo the best absorbed way to take mag, amazon, or make your own, much cheaper, by buying pure magnesium chloride flakes and adding distilled water. Saves you a fortune, cos oil can be pricey.
I hate gabapentin and love it. It had a way of making me feel a warmth of comfort and mood uplifting when I load up on the gabapentin. 600 3 * a day or 1800mg total daily. After a year and a half of stopping and starting again, I started having severe symptoms of withdrawal from something. I thought it was benzos but when I took a Clonazapam 1mg I still felt like I was withdrawing. A few months of this happening when not taking it feeling uneasy to say the least, I thought. "This can't be neurotin withdrawal, there's no withdrawal from gabapentin! Is there?" And I finally nailed it down to the gabapentin. I come to find it has a dependency level and it's not safe at all if one should not be able to dose for a period of time, they are screwed! Seizures are possible with abrupt discontinuation, just like with benzos or alcohol! Wtf!?!?!!! Thanks doc, a**hole. I didn't need anything else physically addictive and especially one that was supposed to be safe and no worries. God I feel so betrayed, I am conflicted on which is worse, benzos or gabapentinoid withdrawal. I am a recovering heroin addict on methadone and Clonazapam, gabapentin, doxepin and Adderall IR. I count 3 of those as having dangerous, extremely difficult meds to detox from. The Adderall just makes me tired if I don't take it. But mainly I'm surprised and upset about the gabapentin being able to give me such hell if I don't take it. If you run out and don't taper, god help you, it's scary. I am not sure what to do about all this. I know if I take it right it works, but if it's abused and runs out before the next script, its not fun and most of the medical profession still won't admit it they aren't aware that gabapentin causes some people mild euphoria and also major withdrawal syndrome, or even admitting mild withdrawal is not gonna happen. The internet and forums like these tell the truth, all these people saying the same if they've been in it for a little and take it regularly, that withdrawals, physically and dangerous let alone unbearably uncomfortable to get through.. magnesium works to ease it though, I know. I've been sick AF and read magnesium helps gabapentin WD's and I tried it last month and it helped soo much. Not a placebo effect either, I doubted it would work and knew it wouldn't. But it sure as hell did, alot I might add. So does my doxepin and Clonazapam. But even without those gabapentin WD's aren't as bad with magnesium supplementation. I hope I get out of this nightmare trap of thinking substances are the best answer to my problems. Polysubstance addiction has taken years and years to come to be. One addiction. Two. Replacing one with another and another till now I have 4 or 5 prescription drug RX'd that I depend on, and 3 that cause serious WD symptoms if abruptly stopped. Even gradual tapers are very hard. I will have to figure all this out sooner than later hopefully if it's not already too late.. thanks for your time
I know this is a really old post but I was wondering what magnesium you used? Citrate? Oxide? There are so many different kinds.
I used magnesium citrate tablets and another liquid kind with a high bioavailability taken sublingualy. Magnesium for some reason eases gabapentin WD's so much
Your having gabapentin WD's, that's what's happening sry
