Fentanyl Withdrawal Symptoms (Page 36)

Updated

I'm trying to wean myself off the Fentanyl patch. I went from 75 micro-gms to 50 now I'm on 25. Having a problem and not sure it is related to the decrease in the med. It's been 20 days on the 25 micro-gm and I'm going crazy. I need to keep rocking, moving in any way b/c my body is very restless. Is this a symptom of withdrawal and what do I do? I cannot take it any more.

Hi all,
There are many of us that ha a long battle with the patch. The good news is I am do happy to hear you guys got off this dreaded patch.
The bad news is the withdrawals are pretty tough. They can last from one month up to five months depending on how long you were on the patch.
Like all narcotics your body is like a sponge. The more you take in the more it wants. unfortunately, when this drug gets into your blood stream the longer any narcotic gets in your system te longer it takes to get over it.
I stopped cold turkey and I went through multiple withdrawals all of what you described plus many many more.
If you don't have the will power to stop cold turkey seek help with a doctor to reduce your use safely.
Stopping cold turkey can be dangerous it could put your system into shock and the reprocussion could be fatal. I didn't care I just wanted this out of my system. I hope this helps. Be strong.

Hi I've been on the fentanyl patch since oct 2011, 25mcg for chronic pain associated with fibromyalgia, I started having side effects such as the day before due to change patch would start hurting then when i put new patch I would get heart palpataitons . itching, numbness around my mouth and nose. Then the second day I was so hopped up like a race horse, felt wired then third day would start all over again, well my last patch was due friday, i did not put it. Been having hot and cold flashes, feels like i have to move my legs and arms all the time, and hurting like crazy, so I use tranzene for anxiety so started taking some of that, and went back to old med of norco, that i had from before the patch. Called my Dr. and apparently I missed her call on my cell phone and they didn't call my home phone. So I've been doing this myself will try to call again tomorrow morning which is memorial day, office may not be open. I guess I should have put the patch on but I was afraid, made me feel really bad these last few times, but I hope I didn't make things worse for my body overall. It's been almost three days how much longer before these withdrawls will last? Help!

Hey Etennie I wish I didn't every have to have another pain med agian but suffering with firbromyalgia and not taking anything I will have no normal life. With a pain med I can at least do some normal things with my family. I have tried for years off and on to stop taking pain meds but I hurt so bad and can't be around family and my children, like my Dr's keep telling me I;m not an addict I'am dependant just like a diabetic is dependant on their meds, I finally let it sink in. But I still hate having to take something so I can function. Wishing us all luck than one day we will be pain free, and Fibro will have a cure. I don't wish this on my worse enemy.

Hey Shannon. It must be something in the air. iTools am very depressed. I just found out I have fibromyalgia and my sister just told me my mom has cancer. It's tough dealing with so many obsticals. I've been waiting for my relief but no luck. I actually hate going to the doctors they just want to put me on pills. I keep say I'm going to try alternative medication such as health stuff but I keep procrastinating. Hang in there all. You're not alone in his battle over pain. Be careful what you take. Doctors aren't God so read up on what your taking.

Hey all...Hope this finds everyone in a better mood...(what a joke, right). No, it must be something about the moons or sun or stupidity on my part but I'm in a depression also. I went to a new doctor and whew did he load me down with meds and test, test, test. Have to have operation tomorrow. But all is good. Bahahaha. I have been running so much that for today I'm just laying around taking in the crap that goes with teens not having their way(with ear plugs, thank you). Dread tomorrow but I will make it ok. Glad to see everyone still alive and kicking and able to post. Love all and see ya later....hugs and kisses....Good to see you back Shannon...

Hey nuttynanny, you're in my prayers. I love surgeries :(
I've so many needles an back urgeries I feel like I should walk around with a zipper in my back. Whatever surgery you're having you're in good hands and I'm not talkin about doctors. Keep smiling. I know it's tough Lord knows I know it's tough.
It must be the moon or sun or stars that's causing the excessive depression. As we speak I'm lookin for a very large rock to hide under.
By the way, I'm looking for a spiritual awakening to hit me, hopefully soon.
I love u guys and stop smoking.
Your brother in Christ.

MY TESTIMONY - This is a true story and prayfully this will give someone hope, encouragement and faith. I was diagnosed with Severe Spinal Stenosis with 4 levels of cervical disc disase close to 4 yrs ago. Started with pain mgt 3-1/2 yrs ago and they started me off with 4 percocets a day, then in the last 2 yrs I went from 25 mcg to 50 mcg Fentanyl patches every 48 hrs (continued the 4 percs a day). 1 yr after starting on the meds I tried to stop taking them on my own and ended up the emergency with severe withdrawals. I finally came to the understanding it wasn't something I could do in the flesh so I continued to pray and had faith I would be delivered from the pain as well as the medications - just had to be patient. I was also given Xanax and anti-depres for other symptons, such as not being able to sleep and hot flashes - GYN stated I was in peri-menopause. Approximately 6 weeks ago (Easter Sunday) I was in the shower and looked down at the patch and couldn't remember the last time I changed it out. I checked my drawer where my patches were kept and seen I hadn't changed it out in 6 days. I heard God clearly speak to me and said "There is nothing left (meaning the medicine), take it off. It is done!" I stopped all meds cold turkey (yes stopped them all at once) and since that day I haven't had one ounce of pain and when I called the nurse 2 days later to let them know I no longer take any of the medication she was not happy. She told me I could have had a seizure and died, so they put me on an anti-seizure medicine that was worse than being on all the other meds...I couldn't even finish taking it. Although I have some residual withdrawals I know God has saved me from the worst of it. I have read so many stories how these opiates have wreaked havoc in our lives and my prayers go out to you all. Not that I haven't had problems since, but I believe there was other health issues hidden while being on the pain meds or maybe the pain meds caused them. I am now going through a full physical to see if any damage has been done to my liver, stomach, intestines...so on. Also, please remember there is a difference between "dependency and addiction". If you are dependent the road to recovery is not as difficult as you may think. I knew what to expect so I took steps right after stopping such as taking immodium and Fiber because that is the first thing that happens. Since pain meds bind you up you can imagine how food will go right through you when you stop taking them. Go to your health food store as they will be very helpful with showing you what will help restore the damage that these meds WILL cause after long use. As a little history my mother went to be with the Lord at the young age of 53 (I was only 21) due to malpractice surgery on her cervical spine. The very surgery I was told I needed to have, so you can understand why I had to have faith my back would be healed. Stay in prayer and in Faith. He said it is DONE and it is.

I need to add "I do not suggest to anyone to quit cold turkey". I know what I did could have had serious consequences, so please consult your physician when you decide to stop/cut down on any of your meds. My testimony is just that...a testimony.

Hey all....Good to see all is doing fairly well going down the road to recovery. My surgery went well and I just love this doctor that did the surgery. I got something as soon as I walked in the room for my nerves and then after the 100th time they finally got a IV in my arm. I went to the holding stall and it wasn't no time they brought me a Phenergan and a Klonipin for me to take. I talked to the nurse and the doctor and from then on did not know anything untill I woke up back in the day surgery unit. I didn't even know I was in the recovery room. This was the best I have ever had as far as surgeries go. With my old doctor that I use to use, I would wake up in the recovery room screaming for something for pain. I don't know what this doc did, but by GOD he is my doctor for now on. He did give me some very strong pain pills, but I didn't have to take but just a few. I have come to realize that when I go on a binge of doing a bunch of pain pills it is like having a bipolar episode. I don't like that feeling. Up one day and down the next. I just pefer to stay down than to go back and forth. I think the family agrees also. lololol....Hope everyone is doing ok at the least. See ya'll later. Hugs and kisses....

I was on neurotin after spinal fusion and it did not help me, what I did notice was I kept gaining weight and was not eating more.i was on other drugs and took self off neurotin as I found I lost 20 lbs right away, now I am tryingto get off fentanyl 75 which I was changing every other day for many years. Now I am changing it once a week and seeing a acupuncist, which seems to be helping, pain has not increased so I feel that is a good sign.

Well hello everyone....I guess i screwed up big time but not so bad that I can hang my head too deep. I got on the ole oxy's and I just come to the conclusion that I can't take anything. Now I'm paying for it dearly. Don't get me wrong, I have to have something but not so much as what I was doing. It just goes to show that the more you do the more you want, and I want it all.....lololololNow i'm back to square one. Admit, cuss my dealer out then just go with the flow. I'm only human so I do make mistakes(cosly). But since I am only human, I can ask for forgiveness and hope that I will get it. If I don't then no biggie, I will just carry on
@Etienne, My brother, I miss you dearly. I hope and pray you are doing good and blessed. Take care of yourself and know that I love you.....hugs and kisses
