Eliquis And Weight: I Need The Truth (Page 4) (Top voted first)

Updated

Today I am speaking with my hemotologist about switching from Xarelto to Eliquis. Xarelto has caused me, a runner with a very slim diet, to gain almost 14 pounds in 4 weeks. 7 of those pounds in the last two weeks.

I need to know of any serious weight gain issues with Eliquis. Doctors always swear that the side effects listed are the only ones but I was never told by my doctor nor the literature that Xarelto causes abnormal weight gain either. Google had to tell me that after yesterday's terrible weigh-in. I'm looking for absolute candor. I am 34 and female and I'd be taking it for PE.

Thanks.

My husband is 67 and he's been on Eliquis for 5 months and he has lost 38 lbs. In fact he now has to watch himself losing more. He has changed his diet to eating clean but not cutting back on amount. I hope this helps!

I'm sorry the Dr's won't listen to you! How rude and rotten!
There are many things you can do to help keep your blood thin- regular exercise, certain vitamins and minerals like vit E and magnesium among others, stay hydrated, and the typical things like do not stay too inactive for too long.
Good luck to you!

I had to take eloquis also and it seems that I have gained about 6lbs. I'm very athletic and always kept my weight at 159. So now I'm wondering!

Re: Dot (# 43) Expand Referenced Message

I am sorry Dot :(. I really have no advice. But maybe you could try a different blood thinner?? I have been able to stop taking this and am thinning my blood thru vits and minerals- lots of water and exercise/activity. My dr is not entirely on board but has agreed to let me try.
Good luck to you!

I have been taking Eliquis for 18 months and have gained about 2 stone. I am at my wits end. Just about to ask the doctor to take me off Eliquis and try something else. I feel that I am not the same person in every way since I started this medication.

Re: MH (# 35) Expand Referenced Message

My husband was not feeling well most of the time he was on Eliquis, he was short of breath alot, had nausea, low iron and he developed drop foot in his left foot and no test were done just because he lost feeling and couldn't lift his foot that's what they diagnosed him with and he also developed cellulitis in the same foot. He had no energy which he has always been very active.

I would be in total agreement. I take 800mg of magnesium malate. That will help with your afib.

Have been on Eliquis for 7 months and gained 7 lbs. Have also been relatively inactive due to healing knee fracture and consequential muscle loss. Am just about ready to start a weights program at a gym, so hopeful my situation will improve because I must stay on E for life.

Were you working out? Muscle weighs more than fat.

Also as yiu undergo drustic diet the body naturally starts to store fat preparing for famine.

I'm 55 female trying to deal with DVT, and yesterday found out also have PE. I've only been on Eliquis for 5 weeks, I have actually lost a couple pounds, but due to Eliquis or anxiety? I am a mess over this, the clot in lung is said to be small and I'm so thankful it didn't go any further. But I'm so worried about how this is going to go, will I ever be what I call 'the norm' again? I was a lively old lady, daily exercise, always on the go, keeping my house a specific way, now I'm lucky to cook & do the dishes! I would love to hear others' own experience stories and could use the support, I'm very down right now & worried I'll never be the same again. Old before my time! If anyone is in or has been in my shoes please share.
