Eliquis And Weight: I Need The Truth (Page 5) (Top voted first)
UpdatedToday I am speaking with my hemotologist about switching from Xarelto to Eliquis. Xarelto has caused me, a runner with a very slim diet, to gain almost 14 pounds in 4 weeks. 7 of those pounds in the last two weeks.
I need to know of any serious weight gain issues with Eliquis. Doctors always swear that the side effects listed are the only ones but I was never told by my doctor nor the literature that Xarelto causes abnormal weight gain either. Google had to tell me that after yesterday's terrible weigh-in. I'm looking for absolute candor. I am 34 and female and I'd be taking it for PE.
Thanks.
Re: tricia (# 58)
You’ll feel better! PE takes it out of you for a while :( I recently learned I have s hereditary blood clotting issue called factor v Leiden. I am recovered from my clot and have gone off thinners for now. I take a lot of vitamins and minerals- many fir my bones and a few for blood thinning. Vit D, magnesium, vit E, fish oil. To name a few. I hope you feel better soon!
Re: LoriE (# 54)
My dr told me absolutely no to certain things and vit E was on the list.
Re: tricia (# 60)
Maybe for different health issues you have then I? My dr is holistic and for my issues he approves.
Re: Bethie (# 65)
It is this drug. By day five you’ll feel
Like a new woman. I know. I did it. Quit using it. Went to Xarelto. Much better.
Weight gain might be a trade-off from taking Eliquis with its side affect of being breathless, especially being a runner. I would check in to this before your changing of meds.
I’ve been on Eliquis since 20th April 2018. Due to May Thurner Syndrome,I had a stent put into my common iliac artery. After starting Eliquis I did feel a lot better but the weight crept on and on. I train at the gym with a personal trainer 6 days a week, prep my meals, practically eat as little as a baby. No sugar ,hardly any carbs and no salt. I’m also taking lasix 40mg once a day. Yet the specialist said nothing about weight gain and a swollen belly. I weigh 12kg heavier than what I did before my surgery and it’s very hard to feel better when this medication crushes your bodies structure. Also I have random bleeding when I go to the toilet.I think it should be removed from pharmaceutical. companies. My dr believes that in 3 weeks when I swap to aspirin tablets my weight will come off but I feel like a balloon. I’m being too hard on myself, but I can’t help it as it’s not normal to gain weight or fluid this rapid...I should just enjoy life, be a little bit more lazy and eat McDonald’s. Then I have an excuse for the weight gain. I’m lucky to be healthier than I was before my surgery and I wouldn’t take it for granted. But I can only see reviews from people that have used Eliquis and no dr is doing anything about it. Please let me know if you are off it now and have lost the weight and fluid retention
On Eliquis for 2 months (25) for afib along with 120mg cardizem plus 25mg Metoprolol twice daily. Want to wean off all. Can't seem to lose any weight, fatigued, low heart resting heart rate. Can I take only once a day to start weaning?
Re: Verwon (# 1)
I certainly agree with most of your reply but cant stay silent on the fact that just because it is not listed in the PDR doesn't mean that you cannot or will not have an adverse reaction or side effect. I went through 3 years of agony while on the esterderm patch with 5 different doctors with specialties and pharmacists weighing in and not 1 pin pointed or even suggested that the patch could be the problem because it wasn't listed in the PDR. My reaction was tendinitis, bursitis and developing calcium deposits on my shoulders and hip joints was continuous for the entire 3 year period needing shots of cortisone into the deposits to break them up...the problem only stopped once I stopped using the patch.
I was 118 pounds. I started taking Eliquis and immediately gained 30 pounds. I cannot get the wait off no matter what I do and I eat very healthy. I was on the other one you were on andhad side effects also. I also have joint pain and fatigue on Eliquis. I hadabout 80 replays to people that have gained weight.
Re: TheMissus (# 3)
As an Eliquis user I'm only aware of decreased appetite, itching, maybe a little nausea. I think it's one of the better blood thinners all round, easier than Warfarin.
Hello The Missus.
Heard you were thinking about changing to Eliquis. I have had medical problems since 2013 was on warfarin at one time no problem but after s surgery developed blood clots. My Doctor put me on Eliquis and in no time gained 30 pounds. I was 118 pounds. Didn't change eating habits at all. They say it is not a side effect but finding more and more people are having this problem. Do you have to be on these blood thinners or can you take warfarin? I have no choice everyone is different
Re: TheMissus (# 3)
Been on eliquis for 14 months. Have lost 20lbs. 15 would have been ok. Now I am concerned so visiting my doctor soon
Sorry to say, after being in Coumadin for years and unable to lose weight I was put on Eliquis and within days I was unable to breathe. I went on Xarelto and found it worked well and dropped 20 lbs. Everyone is different. I still take my baby aspirin with Xarelto.
I used to be on Warfarin for many years due to clots & a PE. Been on Eliquis for about 3 weeks & haven’t shown any weight gain yet. But I go by the way my clothes fit & if anything, they feel looser.
I gained 20+ lbs w/ Xarelto. Slight gain with Eloquis but manageable.
I have also been on Xarelto and now Eliquis. It is during this pandemic and I can say for sure that I have not gained any weight this far.
I’ve been taking Eliquis 2.5 mgs twice a day for the past 3-4 months. My dr switched from Warfarin to Eliquis so I no longer need to constantly get tested. I haven’t had any weight gain. I actually lost weight. I am also taking it because of a P.E. problem & clots in my left leg. It could be a combination of medications you are taking. It’s been very convenient for me not having to get my Pro Time checked constantly. I hope this helps a little. Good Luck & if you find out what’s causing your weight gain, please let me know.
Re: Lexie (# 93)
As my one doctor told me when I had breathing issues my cardiologist didn’t believe me. He said only the patient knows. It’s your body. I did well on Xaralto.
Re: Rebecca (# 95)
I noticed that. I drink a lot of water. I wasn't sure what was going on.
Re: Megan (# 6)
I'm dropping weight also. I eat more greens and fruit. I take Eliquis and Ferrous. I also go to physical therapy. I'm plus size but this medicine have me dropping weight.
