Drinking On Lexapro (Page 4) (Top voted first)

I was just wondering if anyone has drank with this med and were there any side effects? I've been on lexapro 10 mg for a month and am feeling great but I am petrified to even attempt to drink alcohol, but would like to try. So if anyone could help that would be great.

I've been on it for several years and have always had alcohol since I first started... indeed moderation is good counsel --- but that is true for most things. Try it, don't be paranoid --- have one beer or one glass of wine.....

I've just started Lexapro and haven't even really felt it's good impacts yet. I'm inclined to try some casual drinking and see how it goes. I have anxiety issues and not depression which might make a difference in reaction. Obviously some people can't take any alcohol and others are fine in moderation.

I really appreciate all these replies and information.

drinking on lex is a no , I was a big drinker with pancritis and a hospital stay. after the op i was on 10mg lex and 6mg ativan day, te doc said I could drink but don't have a bath in it, 3 pints and I feel a space cadet and the hangover on just 3 pints is epic

I've noticed this in myself, I've been in 4 altercation since I've been on this medicine which has only been about 4 months. I was never like that before. So if I drink heavily I'm either anrhy and want to fight or very sad and cry about everything. I've decided that its best to avoid drinking all together.

Lexapro and 2-3 wines a night - no problem.
However; I don't drink on a "bad" day

I have been on lexapro for about 2.5 years now, and I too like to drink. I typically have 5 to 6 beers a night. I have noticed my drinking has increased to almost every night and my wife says that I am back to the way I was before starting lexapro. I am wo dering if there is a correlation ans if I too am putting my marriage in jeopardy. I tend to blame the drinking on stress as well.

I've been on Lexapro 5-10mg for 11 years. I've had many many drinks in that time and never any ill effects. I just know not to have too much alcohol at one time.

Your wife m ay be bipolar. Bipolars usually have a long period of depression prior to their first "mania". I had the same thing happen to me. They wake up and blame their unhappiness on you!

I've been 20 my for 3 months, next month for the 1st 2 weeks is my last down to 10mg. I drank atleast a cup a day, and on the weekends a little more. So it depends on you, your body.

I had a similar experience. I take lexapro and whenever I drink, I vomit. Even if I don't drink that much, I will be totally "with it" mentally and not feel drunk, but I will be really nauseous and vomit...it sucks. :(

If you have difficult side effects, cut the dose, take less. Lexapro effects people in many different ways, depending on their chemical makeup. For me, it has taken away hopelessness. On 10 mg, I began feeling like a hummingbird. So I gradually cut back to between 5 and 7 mg by cutting the pills with a single edge razor blade. During the holiday season, I up the dose to 7. If I start thinking 'suicide,' I up the dose to 7. But I try to keep it around 5-6mg.

When I drank 2-3 drinks on Lexapro it completely threw my balance off. I fell down, do not remember periods of the evening, and at one point I was on the floor feeling like I weighed a thousand pounds and could not get up. What this does to the brain is evident - I highly advise AGAINST drinking alcohol on Lexapro!

All of us are different as all meds does well for some an worse for others but when I use to drink an I'm on 8prescription meds daily an every time I'd have to get info from others on what I did that night 1option might be to take it at night after your last drink it might work better that way with less blackouts but they do happen an that suck hope this helps thanks Ken

Have been on lexapro 10mg for almost 2 years now. I can drink but have noticed that my tolerance is lower. When I once could have 5 or 6 beers now I can have 2 or 3.

This is not true at all. The drug goes into your body instantly. Some people don't notice the drug for a delayed time. I felt the drug the very first day I took it. I also have a lot of experience with drugs. This is not true at all.

I get the same weird feeling, like there's a pressure in my head. I don't drink, though. I haven't since I started taking the medication.

I am a 28 year old female, 120 pounds and 5'4... when I am not on lexapro I can 8 or 9 drinks. I will be hammered but I will still remember everything. When I am on lexapro- 2+ drinks I will black out. I've had 2 drinks and woken up not sure where I was or how I got home. One time my friend introduced me to her friend- or I thought it was an introduction. Turns out I had met him, been to his house for 3 hours, and spent an hour of that time playing with his dog. He showed me pictures of his house and his dog. Nothing triggered any memory of this. Be careful

Try a beer first and see how your body reacts to it, that's what I did and I was fine.
