Drinking On Lexapro (Page 5) (Top voted first)

I was just wondering if anyone has drank with this med and were there any side effects? I've been on lexapro 10 mg for a month and am feeling great but I am petrified to even attempt to drink alcohol, but would like to try. So if anyone could help that would be great.

I've always been a bit of a drinker. I started on 20mg about a year and a half ago. At first I was paranoid about drinking. I stayed away from drinks for about a month until my body adapted to it. Tried a little bit at a time. Just paid attention to my body and beware of when I had enough. I can go out and have 3 or 4 pints in a night and be fine.

An unexpected bonus for me: hangovers are far less severe for me.

Now I might be "the exception to the rule here" but just beware of what your body is telling you.

Also, nobody seems to mention that if drink like an i****, yeah, bad things will. Learn how to drink like a responsible adult and you will be fine.

I do not recommend. Now that I am on the maximum dosage the side affects have worsened. Yesterday I had a panic attack, called my mom saying that I was going to kill myself, argued with my gf and many other things... and the worse: I don´t remember anything. Be careful if you intend to drink.

you should wait. Potential side effects are more likely to occur during the first months under treatment. This is because the body needs time to metabolize the drug and get the adequate levels

I have been on lexapro for 12 years. It helps but drinking is tricky. It doubles the effects of what you drink. Hangovers are worse and more common. Yes I get a buzzy feeling in my head the next day. I take my pill @ night. I don't like drinking like I used to. Too sensitive on this medication. I think its age too. I'm 45.

i recommend not having anymore than anything over the equivalent of a beer, maybe two depending on height and weight, but I've been on lexapro for 3 months, 20 mg, and my friend came home from out of state so we celebrated, and i know my limits, but i realized when i was drinking i blacked out, and this was two different times and i realized it was my meds. i drank 3 drinks and a beer, which normally would be fine, but the terror or blacking out instate worth it. no more drinking for me, but to each is so so just take a lot of caution, and make sure you're never alone while drinking on this.

I have been on Lexapro 10mg for sometime now, and like others in this thread, drink often. My anxiety peaks some days, and Lexapro alone doesn't do it. I have had no nasty side effects from combining the two.

It varies from person to person as everyones make up and chemistry is different. Its reccomemded you dont drink as alcohols a depresent and will likely make depression worse and as for anxiety, you will likely get a bad rebound affect the following day as the alcohol has messed with your brain. Its not to say you cant but theres a possibility of an increase of side effects from the drug. If you must id start slowly and see how alcohol affects your body

just took my 1st 10mg tablet last night had one glass of wine and was completeley spun out. Mellow but was stoned i think

you will find hangovers last longer and are bad , sometimes days

Good man, drinking and meds are a no no. If you want to mix them be my guest, and be like me. Have half your guts out with pancreatitis.

I have been on Lexapro for 2 months and have drank a few times and feel no different. Pharmacist says in moderation it is ok, may increase drowsiness or dizziness. If anything I'm happier!

I am on 10mg Lexapro, and last night my kids took me for some pub grub that's food in a pub I am English, I had 2 pint of draft Guniness that is my limit now. I was a big drinker 8 pints of STELLA that' runs at %6 , that would nuke me now, you cannot go BAR crawling anymore , the booze will cancel out you med , me personal get a hangover at 2 pints now its not worth it, I do 2 pints twice a week that's it just being with my buddies, but I am kidding myself its not the same never will be, and if it tips you back into the darkness your screwed

I would not recommend it, my boyfriend was on the meds for 6 months and went on a 3 day weekend drinking everyday on the 3rd he became suicidal and tried to kill him. He then started sleep walking and having major depression. He was on 15 MG, please avoid drinking at all cost, thankfully I was around to save his life, had I not been he would be died.

This happens to me too. I take lexapro for anxiety that started 5 months after finding my father passed away in his home. Shortly, i acquired anxiety and panics. I went against the dr's instructions and only grabbed for xanax when ever i started having that "feeling" of anxiety. So i started taking the lexapro as insructed for 3 weeks and thought it wouldnt hurt to drink. I had 3 big glasses of wine one night, woke up and felt fine. After about lunch time; a full on Anxiety attack ensued. And yes it starts with a light headed, introverted, sliding slowly into a terror. Soooo... im not drinking like that needless to say.
How is your anxiety now?

This is the problem i have. If i drink 5 glasses of wine at the end of the night, i will be paying for it the next day with terror like anxiety, the lexapro cant touch it and have to resort xanax which is dangerous fix due to possible falling dependent to the drug.

I started drinking wine spritzers and a small glass of wine. It is affecting me. I am feeling blue and some depression. I think it is better off not to drink. I will try not to Before I started drinking wine again I was
feeling great so wine definitely is not good. Maybe a very small amount but I am going to stop the wine and compare the difference when I wake up in the morning.
