Drinking On Lexapro (Page 3) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI was just wondering if anyone has drank with this med and were there any side effects? I've been on lexapro 10 mg for a month and am feeling great but I am petrified to even attempt to drink alcohol, but would like to try. So if anyone could help that would be great.
I drink on Lexapro and have had no problems. A friend, who drinks quite a bit, however, has blackouts. I'm not a doctor, but I'd say try a glass of wine or beer at home and see how it affects you. Please don't drive or be out somewhere. Be in a safe place.
I am very sensitive to medications. Hence, I had to start with liquid Lexapro and draw up .1mg in an insulin syringe, then build up to 10mg. Presently, after 9 years, I am gradually cutting back because of numbness and tingling on my left side, a symptom I had when I first started. If you feel too strange, cut the dose down. It has also made me hyper, which is why I'm cutting back.
Please do not be afraid. Simply be observant.
I started taking this medication about 4 month ago. I'm a college student that goes out quite often. The first time I drank on this medication it was a complete blackout and many bruises from falling down stairs. I continue to completely black out every time i have 3+ drinks. My actions are somewhat normal, but the memory of everything is nonexistent. I also nod out/fall asleep while drunk on this out of the blue.
I drink wine daily and have never had a problem combining wine with alcohol. It seems, from the postings, that it depends on the individual body chemistry. If you want to try some alcohol while on Lexapro, be in a safe place and have no need to drive.
I have been on Lexapro for insomnia and menopausal symptoms for 12 weeks. was up to 20mg, but had the horrible G.I. effects along with nausea and diarrhea. I went down to 15mg and feel great. I do have 2 glasses of wine at dinner and have never felt any weird side effects of "over indulging".
Give the drug time, fine tune the dose and you should be fine. It has done so much for my sleeping pattern, hot flashes, mood issues. I highly recommend Lexapro. Just keep your Dr. informed--in case adjustments need to be taken. It's a life saver and not a dirty drug.
I have been taking Lexapro for 8 days now and I plan to try and have a drink for the first time to see how it feels. I'll probably start with a beer.
I get this strange eerie feeling of horrible feelinges it is crazy as hell. You know what is going on but its like nothing can help.Like your mind is poisoned or something. Its just does not doesn't feel right at all.
YES! everything seems far away and its difficult to focus
Ummmmmmm.... just don't drink?
Half the reason I (you) am on Lexapro is the constant social drinking screwing up the chemical balance in my (your) head... combining the two really isn't such a good idea.
You will be tired starting out on this med for a few weeks. I was and quit, than started and quit. Finally started and stayed on it. I am up to 15 MG I still get anxious but than take a clonazapame and feel fine. I too social drink beer. I know I feel the effects much faster and loose my balance, I even get black outs. I have been falling and hurt myself. So I will start drinking Miller 64 and not often. I guess we are not suppose to drink, but I still want a few on weekends. And warm summer nights, and camping etc......
This is sober one. Forgot to mention my dosage of lexapro is 7.5 mg
I just started taking Lexapro about a week and half ago and have drank alcohol twice during that time. The first time I blacked out and don't recall how I made it home. Second time was similar; it was hard to recall certain parts of the evening. I'm sure it boils down to each individuals physiology, but don't think it's going to be an option for me.
Ive been on Lexapro 10mg for 3 weeks now. In the beginning I could not stop yawning, my pupils were big, I had insomnia and diarrhea after eating anything and I was thirsty at alllll times. I drank during this adjustment period and literally pissed myself and couldn't remember half the night (thank god I was basically already home- so no one saw this happen :-x)... after 2 weeks my side effects tapered off. I went out drinking last night (2 glasses of wine, 2 beers, 2 vodka with sprite and I am only 125 pounds). The only thing I noticed is that my memory of last night is not nearly as clear as it normally would be. Also some of the side effects came back in the morning like diarrhea and yawning. I think its fine to drink on it but wait until after your body has adjusted to it first.
I was nervous to start taking this drug as well. I am writing here only to tell you have nothing to worry about. Take the med you doctor prescribed. You will feel so much better in a month and have the life back that you once knew.
I've been on lexapro for about 6 months. I've drunk a few beers a couple nights a week and 10-12 every 3 to 4 weeks or so with no problem at all, until last week. I drank 10 beers, well below my maximum tolerance ( not that I'm proud of that) and I black out the last 3-4 hours of the night. My wife and friends said that I got extremely angry and was telling people extremely horrible things and wanting to fight. I'm a happy drinker. My friends said I have never done anything like that in the 20 years we've been drinking together. They said that person wasn't me. This isn't to scare anyone, but to inform. I don't necessarily think that if you drink several times and you are fine that you will be o.k. Every time you drink. Please be careful. I would stick with a couple drinks max.
I have been on 10 mg of generic lexapro for 7 weeks for anxiety that hit me out of nowhere. Startup was tough(first 10 days), increased anxiety, nausea, dizziness but the drug really works. I like to have a few drinks during the week and usually more on the weekends. I find that if I have only a few I am fine. I don't notice anything different mixing the alcohol and lex other than highly increased anxiety for a couple of days after if I overdue it, 10+ drinks. I am 39 year old male 6'1" 190 lbs.
I would not recommend having more than one or two drinks while on lexapro. I was on 10 mg for two years and could get away with having a couple drinks and be fine. My doctor upped my dose to 20 mg and now if I have more than two drinks I'm DONE. Like, embarrassing done. It happened the other night where I had more than two drinks and it's like my mental filter completely disappears. Not to mention you feel terrible the next day. Be careful!
Ive been on Lexapro for two months now and I am a college student. SO naturally I drink, and I have never had any problems.
As an ex Vet I started this drug to calm my head.
Then I retired from service and took another job (I'm still working) and began drinking more as depression set in, just to sleep.
It's a circle guys, you drink so you can sleep, then the drug kicks in (and you loose memory) then wake up hoping your wife can forgive you with no real memory of what you have done.
I'm not lecturing, but I have found taking a sleeping table works just as well - without the memory loose.
And yes, I still like a drink, but a light beer will do.
I have been on 10 mg of Lexapro for 2 years and I drink regularly with no ill effect. I have been told that the mixture heightens the high but I have not noticed any difference.
