I have only been on HCTZ for 3 weeks because of high blood pressure readings, and I have seen a definite change in my hair. There is total lack of body, and even my husband has noticed the thinner quality of my hair. I am afraid to comb it for fear of seeing more hair on the comb, but at this stage it is more a total thinness. Is 3 weeks too short a time for this to happen? Previous to that I was on a different blood pressure med briefly, called Diltiazem, right after my foot/ankle surgery. But I don't see thinning of hair as being a side effect for that med. Was wondering if anyone else experienced this problem while on HCTZ and if so, was there anything that can be done to help. This is causing me a lot of stress. Haven't had this problem before and don't want this to get ...

Hiya, I have had severe acne since about 9 years old (I know, started early) and it has been a constant battle. I have had every antibiotic and treatments under the sun and the only one that seemed to do anything was Roaccutane which I was on for nearly 2 years. Of course, 6 months after coming off, my acne came back and so my dermatologist suggested trying Spironolactone as he didn't feel comfortable with me being on Roaccutane any longer. I started off with 25mg for about 3 months and then increased this to 50mg and now I'm on 75mg and I'm still really struggling with my acne!! It's been about 6 months now and I had high hopes and now I'm close to giving up. I'm also really worried about the side effects, especially long term. About 2 months ago I ended up in h...

need to know would hydrochlorot affect the creatinine levels l ## Hello, Sky! How are you? What dosage of it are you taking? Where this affects your creatinine level is usually through dehydration. This medication is classified by the FDA as a diuretic, which means it works by removing excess fluid and sodium from the body and if someone isn't taking in enough fluids to make up for it, it can cause dehydration as a side effect. I actually had that happen with a different diuretic prescribed by my cardiologist a few years ago. She had me stop taking it for a couple weeks and then my levels returned to normal. Dehydration is a very well known side effect and even listed by the NIH as a possible cause of elevated creatinine levels.

I am taking 10 mg lasix twice daily and 20 meq potassium daily. Is this a good ratio? ## Hello, Eugene! How are you? Are these the doses your doctor has prescribed? There's really no definitive rate that I can give you for how much potassium Lasix depletes from the body, it can vary from person to person. Have you actually tested as being low in potassium? The FDA lists the typical side effects of Lasix as possibly including nausea, dizziness, increased urination, hypotension and dehydration. The potassium is known to irritate the stomach, so it should only be taken with food.

does this medicine expire. This is my detailed message ## Hello, CC! How are you? Yes, all medications have expiration dates, because they tend to lose effectiveness, with time and exposure to the elements that cause degradation, such as heat, light and moisture. For tablets and capsules, if they are in a bottle as dispensed by most pharmacies, it is one year from the date it was filled. However, if they are in the original factory sealed container, then they are usually good for 3 to 4 years. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, hypotension, increased urination and dehydration. Is there anything else I can help with?

I found this pill on top of one of my cabinets in the house . can you tell me what it might be? ## Could the marking be 5880 V? I actually have these and due to the size and pressing of the imprint, the numbers are difficult to make out on them. However, they contain 25mgs of Spironolactone, which is primarily used as a potassium sparing diuretic and antihypertensive agent. Learn more Spironolactone details here. ## Possibly a Prednisone, a corticosteroid, used primarily for inflammatory conditions. I would advise flushing it down the toilet, or putting it with yucky food trash, so no one will take it by accident or on purpose. It can have nasty side effects.
