Is it ok to break 80 mg tablets in half to acheive 40mg dose? ## Of course it is! You would be far better and cheaper if you were to buy a good generic atorvastatin though, as Lipitor is exceedingly overpriced. 80mg is a HUGE dosage of atorvastatin, and is equivalent in potency to almost 160mg Simvastatin, which many consider the superior statin. Have you recently suffered a stroke or myocardial infarction? ## It is okay to do so, as long as the medication is not time released, and your doctor approves. My cardiologist often prescribes some of my medications in a higher dosage, so I can cut them in half, since it is often cheaper that way. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Atorvastatin as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and joint/muscle aches. Are you on any othe...

typing medical transcription doctor said this as name of drug ## Well, only the doctor can say for certain, but he might have been referring to the medication Pravastatin, which is used to help lower cholesterol. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including headache, joint/muscle aches, and nausea. Did you ever discover what it was?

Hello. I have been taking lipvas (atorvastatin) tablets for the past nine months and my daily dose is 10mg. I got checked for my cholesterol levels and all parameters are within the safe zone. Shall I stop taking this medication? ## You should not stop it, without your doctor's approval. The NIH lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and joint/muscle aches. The medication may be the only thing keeping it down and preventing future medical problems. Are you on any other medications? ## I had diabetes and an old stroke case for which the doctor prescribed Carbamazepine, Atorvastatin, and an Asprin tablet. Now my BP and sugar levels are somehow ok. So, can I stop taking these meds?

I am on Welchol and have nausea and stomach pain and discomfort, as well as pressure all the time, in and out of the bathroom with diarrhea. I have stopped taking it 2 days ago, but still have the same problem. How long does it take to get out of your system? Thanks. ## Have you consulted your doctor? The symptoms you've described can all be normal side effects of this medication. However, if they are that severe, then you will probably need to switch to a different medication. ## Hey this is the second reference I have found that indicates side effects can persist past stopping the drug. (See Thread: Side Effects of WeCHol). Someone replied to the first thread by dismissing the possibility that the persistent side effects could be linked to a drug you are no longer taking. I'm ...

I was placed on Liptor 40 mg with refills for last 3 months last doctor visit 2 weeks ago was told to continue and come back for blood tests in December. When I went to get refill this month was told by pharmacy they had to wait for doctor approval to refill. I called doctor office and got refill to last until my next visit. My question is wouldn’t the doctor have told me that there’s a change in how he is prescribing medication to insure that I have enough between appointments. ## This is a followup to my post. Apparently because of the holiday (Veterans), my prescription was not processed until 4 days after I called the doctor's office for refill. He didn't change prescription but made it a 90 day prescription with refills rather than a monthly refill. Again, I wou...

I am having HOCM. My doctor recommended ROSUVAS F 10 MG (1 TAB DAILY) and calaptyn 40 mg (twice a day) based on the medical report. I do not have any other problem other than the above. Please let me have your advice. ## Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy is a condition where your heart muscle becomes thicker and this makes it much harder for the heart to pump the blood through your body properly. In such cases, it is normal for a doctor to give medications to help prevent worsening of the heart, because your risk is much greater of suffering from future heart problems, such as heart attacks. Rosuvas contains the active ingredient Rosuvastatin, this is used to help lower cholesterol levels in the blood and keep them lower. Your risk of cholesterol build-up is much greater and can be a real dan...

Round green pill with pra 40 on the other side apo ## WHAT IS THIS PILL? ## Brand Name Apo-Pravastatin Common Name pravastatin How does this medication work? What will it do for me? Pravastatin belongs to the family of medications known as cholesterol-lowering drugs. It is used in addition to diet and exercise to lower high cholesterol levels. Pravastatin works by blocking an enzyme that is needed to make cholesterol in the liver. Therefore, less cholesterol is made and levels of cholesterol in the blood decrease. Lowering cholesterol levels in the blood has been shown to reduce the risks associated with heart disease such as heart attack. Pravastatin can be used to reduce the risk of death, heart attacks, stroke, and angioplasty for people with heart disease and normal to moderately hi...

I haven't been able to find anything that matches this, so far. However, I'll keep looking and post back, when I have information for you. ## I believe you described Fenofibrate - it is for lowering 'bad' cholesterol. I can't identify this small round pink pill with the number 31 printed one side & H on the other side. ## Is the marking possible a capital i with a 31 on the other side? If so, I believe your tablet is manufactured by Aurobindo Pharma and they list it as containing 20mgs of Rosuvastatin, which is most commonly used to help lower cholesterol. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and joint/muscle aches.

I was given Zuvamor 20mg by my pharmacy in place of Vusor for my cholesterol level at 4. I've taken it for 3 weeks now and notice unrealistic sticky sweat all the time as well as night sweats. Is there a difference between Vusor and Zuvamor to possibly trigger this? ## According to NIH, "sweating" is listed as a less common side effect of Zuvamor (Rosuvastatin); whereas they recommend contacting your doctor if it becomes too bothersome or severe. The side effect profile of this medication also lists: -chills -feeling of warmth or heat -general feeling of discomfort or illness -shivering Source: nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0045451 I hope this information helps add some sense of clarity as to why you're experiencing these unusual symptoms.
