I have been on fenofibrate for about 6 months. The last month almost every time I take it I dry heave. It doesn’t matter if I drink a lot with it or eaten first. Also lately I am having horrible itching all over. Can This happen over time?? ## I'm curious why you are still taking it. Have you told your doctor. It sounds like there's an allergy. ## Those can be common side effects, according to FDA reports, but as Jan stated, the itching could also be due to an allergy, so you should have this checked out by your doctor, because allergic reactions tend to get worse with repeated exposure. Other side effects of Fenofibrate may include headache, runny nose, back pain, and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?
2 REPLIES UpdatedVery fatigued, ABD pain and nausea. MD did blood work to check liver enzymes, BMP, Amylase, Lipase. Ultra sound completed today of gallbladder, pancreas, liver. Was only on fenofibrate for 20 days 145mg. Could not take lipitor for severe muscle cramps. However lipitor was out well the muscle pains ended 36 hours after taking the med. I don't feel better yet after D/Cing the fenofibrate for 4 days. Results not back with the test, will know if any damage to my gallbladder in 2 days. ## Fenofibrate is no longer being taken and the fatigue, abdominal pain, sneezing and nausea continue after 5 days not ingesting this medication. No results on the test are back. Is anyone experiencing extended side effects from this medication after stopping for 5 or more days? Is it possible this medicat...
3 REPLIES UpdatedTwo weeks after starting Tricor, I started developing muscle stiffness that within two more weeks was so severe, I was only sleeping a couple hours a night because the pain kept me up. I went to the Dr and she said keep taking the tricor -she prescribed muscle relaxers and an NSAID pain med. They said maybe it was bad posture, and caused by working at a computer. They also suggested physical therapy. Neither helped. Two days later I went to a Chiropractor, with no relief. The next week I was calling her office again, after waiting in pain a couple days, she prescribed another kind of muscle relaxer and NSAID for pain, and again said to go to physical therapy. The medicin did nothing at all, and again I was so severly in pain, I felt as if someone was trying to rip my arms from my should...
25 REPLIES UpdatedI have an oval white "fen 160 apo" pill. What does it do and what is it for? ## This tablet is manufactured by Apotex Canada and contains 160mgs of Fenofibrate, which is most commonly used to help lower cholesterol levels. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and joint/muscle aches. Is there anything else I can help with?
1 REPLY UpdatedMuscles pains and heavy tiredness, and low level of oxygen in the blood. ## Fenofibrate is most commonly used to help lower cholesterol and yes, those can be common side effects of most of these types of medications. You should talk to your doctor, as it may not be the right medication for you and you may need to try something else. How long have you been taking it? ## I took it for only 20 days, I was to take it for one month, but I had to go to Kailash Mansarovar journey on 16th July & while climbing even the common stairs I was getting heavy tiredness and pain in the back & muscles so I asked my doctor, he told me to stop taking it. But I had to face its worst side effects while on high altitude on the way to Kailash mansarovar via Tibet/china. There was pain and very low lev...
9 REPLIES UpdatedI have been using fenofibrate for about 4 months. About that same time I started having sharp pain in my left hip area. I thought it might be a hip problem but it seems to be more like a muscle in the top of my buttocks to my very lower back. At times it seems to be more pronounced in the front side like my upper groin area. Sometime the pain lessens some if I am doing more physical activities during the day like mowing the lawn and working around the garden. I have also just in the last couple of days been having severe soreness in my right shoulder deltoid area. I just saw that the fenofibrate can cause some muscle aches. I stopped taking it a few days ago (my Dr.told me to anyway when the last prescription ran out) My question is if these are side effects from the fenofibrate how lon...
15 REPLIES UpdatedWhenever I take neurobion I feel some pain... What might be the problem? ## I had an ulcer in my small intestines and was surg. removed. Ever since then, I have lost the feeling in my legs from the knee down and it is not coming right. Will this help? ## Neurobion is a vitamin supplement, so while it may help if you are suffering from a deficiency in the nutrients it contains, it is not a pain reliever and is not proven to work for any specific condition. Were you told it would be effective for pain? Rindie, it is very doubtful that this will help with that, have you spoken to your doctor to get to the root of what is causing your problem? ## My husband took neurobion + fenofibrate + liver detox... and after 5 minutes he felt pain throughout his legs, as well as itching and burning sens...
3 REPLIES UpdatedI have been taking Fenofibrate 134mg for almost 7 years now. I have hereditary high Triglycerides. Mine was 633 the first blood test in 2010 and then the second one was 408. Doctor started me on Fenofibrate and my Triglycerides have been at 97 - 200 ever since. Until now. The price for me has been $132 for 90 pills. Then starting this year it went to $90, then $60, and then $12. Took a blood test last week and my Triglycerides are back up to 401 like the pill is no longer working. The brand is Mylan. Did they change the chemical make up or what is going on? ## It is normal for our bodies to get used to any medication we take in a certain dosage for a long period of time, so eventually, we build up a tolerance, and it stops working as well for us. Thus, it is likely that you may require ...
2 REPLIES UpdatedIt can quickly raise kidney levels. It can destroy them. I took it four months and thankfully after having it a month I got lab for cancer follow up. They said see a kidney Dr. Found out this drug soared my levels. I stopped at once. It could have done permanat damage and death. Did not feel any thing happening. ## Hello, Amy, how are you? 3 REPLIES UpdatedWas told it was for pain. Prescribed to my elderly mother for chronic pain ## Hello, Trish! How are you? Can you please double check the marking? I haven't been able to find anything that matches this, so far. However, I'll keep looking and post back, when I have information for you. ## I believe you described Fenofibrate - it is for lowering 'bad' cholesterol. Did/does it look like the Fenofibrate 48mg tablet (by Teva Pharmaceuticals USA) pictured in the following National Drug Code links? 00093-7755 0093-2061-98
2 REPLIES UpdatedI believe my creatinine level has gone from 1.5 to 1.7 in about 15 days and 2.5 in another 15 days. As a result of this I have stopped stanlip (fenofibrate) suddenly. Please advise. ## I ran out of fenofibrate 160 mg tab about a week ago. I have been very shakey, bad headache, dizziness, nausea. Is this from withdrawal?
1 REPLY UpdatedI have been taking fenofibrate 160mg for almost a year now and I have severe abdominal pain so bad I had to be submitted into the ER and they couldn`t find anything wrong with me. So now I am going to stop taking and don`t care what my doctor says, if the pain goes away I will notify the FDA about this. I did a process of elimination on all my meds and this is the last one on my list. I will keep you all informed. ## Hello, Doug! How are you? Abdominal/stomach pain is a reported possible side effect of Fenofibrate, it is listed in the drug information. Have you tried any of the statin drugs? ## Did you go off of the fenofibrate and did your abdominal pain stop. I was switched to It 4 months ago and have just figured out that it has been the problem with me, causing severe bloating, gas,...

Doctor said to take aleve 2 times a day tried for a few days but doesn't work ! Did this medicine give me permanent muscle damage or how long can this pain and fatigue last its now July 27 ## Hello, Lynn! How are you? What diagnosed medical conditions do you have? There are many medications and health conditions that can cause such issues. Have you informed your doctor that the Al...
4 REPLIES UpdatedNeed list of medication for high cholesterol ## Are there non statin Meds for high cholesterol ? ## Yes, there are a couple of non-statin options, including Fenofibrate and Gemfibrozil. Unfortunately, they typically cause the same side effects, as reported by the FDA, which may include nausea, dizziness, headache and joint/muscle aches. However, it is worth trying one, if you aren't tolerant of statins. Is there anything else I can help with? ## My triglyceride level is 308 HDL is 38 HDL is 73.40 VLDL is 61.61 Which medicine should I take for treatment, which causes little to no side effects?
3 REPLIES UpdatedI developed dizziness and vertigo after taking Fenofibrate for one month and am still suffering from several bouts of vertigo after coming off of it at the beginning of february. I am wondering if anyone else has had this? ## That can be a normal side effect of this medication, according to NIH reports. It can also cause nausea, headache, and joint/muscle aches. How are you doing, now? Has there been any change? Are you on any other medications?
1 REPLY UpdatedIs it possible to reduce/control triglyceride levels naturally? I'm stopping fenofibrate, strictly following a diet and doing vigorous daily exercise to reduce 10 percent of my weight. ## Yes, it is possible and many people have done it. More recent studies in the U.S. have shown that these medications do not actually improve longevity and that elevated cholesterol levels do not cause a higher risk of heart disease and stroke. I am sure more studies are needed, but I am relaying what the current NIH reports detail. How high were your triglycerides? And what types of foods do you usually eat? How much exercise do you usually get each day? Are you on any other medications?
1 REPLY UpdatedSince starting Fenofibrate 160mg I've been having headaches daily... Sometimes my muscle in my ankle hurts as well. It's a pain I never had before. I'm only 34 years old so I think I'm going just stop taking them and just watch what i eat and workout. ## This medication is well known to cause such side effects, according to FDA reports. You may also experience nausea, and dizziness. Are you on any other medications? How long have you been taking it? 34 is very young for high cholesterol. Is it a family health issue?
1 REPLY UpdatedDiscontinued fenobibrate on Monday and started having a lot of diarrhea today (Thursday). Not sure if it's caused by stopping this medication? ## Yes, that is possible, when you stop any medication. You may also experience nausea, fever, chills, dizziness, and headache, according to FDA reports. Why did you stop taking it? Are you on any other medications? Have you consulted your physician?
1 REPLY UpdatedMy Dr put me on Fenofibrate along with another cholesterol med. Now I have severe stomach bloating. I am so embarrassed. Should I cut my Fenofibrate in 1/2? I don't know what Dr to trust anymore. I am 54 and am so confused. ## Hello, Lisa! How are you? What other medication are you taking? According to FDA reports, most medications can cause bloating, but it is hard to say, without knowing what all you are taking. Why were you prescribed more than one medication to lower cholesterol? More recent peer reviewed research is showing that high cholesterol is not a contributing risk factor for heart disease, or heart attack. While more studies need to be done, doctors generally shouldn't resort to immediately medicating people.
1 REPLY UpdatedLast month they started me on fenofibrate 145mg. I am worried as I only have one kidney and with this med my kidney hurts and my stomach hurts! My question is should I even be on this drug with one kidney? ## I would suggest having it checked out by your doctor, this medication has been known to cause some kidney issues, including kidney failure, according to the FDA reports. Are you on any other medications? If you are taking this to lower cholesterol, you should be aware that recent studies are casting doubt on the necessity of doing so, several peer reviewed reports found that having high cholesterol does not raise the risk of heart disease, heart attack, or etc. Of course, as with any given finding, more research is needed, before things are completely certain, so proceed with cauti...
