I'm diabetic, have hypertension, CHF, & early renal failure. Doctor subjected me to arteriogram yesterday for spells of short of breath & angina, but balked at doing ANYTHING (no angioplasty, stents-nothing, for 7 vessels blocked at least 90% because my kidneys were having issues according to labwork. But he gave my husband samples & scrip for Ranexa, said start taking it & in 2 weeks I'll feel better. I'm reading the patient booklet and the prescriber info and ALL over both is listed kidney failure & renal failure. If kidney failure & avoiding dyalisis was the reason we did nothing to FIX my problem, why give me a drug that CAUSES kidney failure? How many people got kidney failure from taking Ranexa? Thanks! ## Hello, Lisa! How are you? It isn't ...

I was pout on cardizem Eric 120 mg. 2 weeks ago & it's causing ankle & foot swelling. Can I just stop & resume my regular blood pressure medication without any problems? ## Hello, Jon! How are you? It can cause that as side effects, in some people that take it, according to the FDA, along with nausea, dizziness, headache, and increased urination. It would be best not to switch, without your doctor's approval. Why was your medication changed?

I have been taking Nifedipibe ER 30mg since March 2016. My doctor increased my dosage up to 60mg Nifedipine starting 10/20/2016. How long does it take my body to adjust to the higher dosage and should I expect any side effects? ## Hello, Melinda! How are you? Yes, side effects will typically occur any time your dosage is raised, and the FDA lists them as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. It usually takes about 4 to 5 weeks for your body to adjust. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you Verwon, it seems that I'm experiencing a couple of the side effects, headache and increased urination, my BP readings are somewhat bouncing around, I'm really hoping they will stabilize very soon. Once again thank you for your reply...

Sir, My father 67 yrs old, Diabetic has undergone Heart Bypass Surgery on Feb 9 2011, It is almost 2.5 month and now he is under medication of Cardio Surgeon and Cardio Consultant. The Doctors have keep on changing his medication but no improvement. Please help. ## I am guessing that from this list of medications, there may be a few that are causing it and possibly compounding the problem. However, the first thing I would like to ask is how long has it been, since they changed any medication? Many drugs take 4 to 6 weeks to reach their full effectiveness in the body and this is usually when side ...

I will be traveling from UK to California for 4 weeks holiday, please can you tell me if my prescribed Nicorandil will be allowed through customs. I have been taking it for 5 years. ## Hi, Kathy! As long as it's a valid prescription that shows the dosing schedule, doctor's name and contact information, then you're allowed to bring in up to 3 months of it. When traveling, I usually carry the prescriptions and a printout from my doctor that shows why each one has been prescribed. And please be sure to leave them in the original prescription containers, as customs may question any loose tablets in unmarked pill carriers. Are there any other questions or concerns? ## When will nicorandil be available. In the United states?

In one day, I received a flu shot, started wearing progressive lenses in glasses for the first time, hit my head (minor), and started isosorbide. I spent most of the day vomiting with debilitating headaches. Some of the day was a return visit to the doctors office to vomit there as proof. At one point, I put a weightlifting plate wrapped in a towel on my head. The worthless pain medicine Tramadol did not help. Excedrin Migraine didn't help either. ## I am very sorry about what you experienced. Have the symptoms resolved? My best guess is that they were caused by the Isosorbide, it is well known to cause those types of side effects, as listed by the FDA. You may also experience dizziness, flushing and frequent urination. ## I started taking isosorb 3 months ago my doctor had me stop ...

I've been having chest pains for almost 3 years sometimes I feel like my heart will stop beating. My GP said that I have angina pectoris and low blood pressure, then prescribed Pur Blocka. Can one drink alcohol when taking Pur Bloka? ## It is never a good idea to drink alcohol while taking a prescription medication, or having been diagnosed with any medical condition, it can worsen the side effects, according to the NIH, and may put your life at risk, when combined with some medical conditions. However, a major symptom of angina usually includes chest pain, which is not something you listed among your symptoms. What you've listed, according to NIH reports, are symptoms of palpitations, which in most cases, are actually harmless and require no treatment. What type of doctor did y...

I was prescribed 60mg of imdul when i complained of recurring slight chest pain after a 2 minuets walk but pain disappears when i take a short rest and can then finish my walk with no pain. Few days before prescription arrived started not having the pain. Should i still take the medication when it arrived? Thanks. ## Hello, Ruben! How are you? Did they do any testing, such as as an EKG, or did they just prescribe the medication? It really depends on that. If they did testing and said that you need the medication, you should take it, but if not, you may want to get a second opinion from a cardiologist. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, and headache.

I am 48 and in fair shape. Both parents have had heart attacks. I have had two heart attacks in less than a month. I was stented in the RCA and the same area was clotted 3 weeks later . I have been on blood thinners since the first MI. i My question is after the second intervention I am now having muscle soreness in my entire body as well as discomfort in the chest area. Dr.s and nurses say the chest pain is normal after angioplasty and stenting. Has anyone else had these issues? ## Hello, Todd! How are you feeling? Has there been any change? Yes, that can be normal after having such procedures, so it is best to follow the advice of your medical professionals. Keep in touch with them, so they are aware of the severity and symptoms, that way they know if there is reason to be concerned o...

A cardiologist started me on Isosorbide Mononitrate after I had a few small heart attacks, before starting me on this , I needed nitrostat and the nurse took 40 minutes to bring it, my troponin levels kept increasing, so I've been taking it for over 3 years now, when I started - it took about a month for the headaches to quit, and when sitting - get up slowly and try not to bend over, crouch down using your knees and hold on the the back of a sturdy chair, getting up fast or bending over as to pick something up off the floor, resulted in a headache or a fainting feeling even 3 years later, my cardiologist said it was a normal side effect, the card nurse had the cardiologist use nitro paste on my chest at first , that day shift nurse that made me wait for nitro was getting even for me t

Taking diltiazem 180 ER at bedtime. Just started 75mg HCTZ in morning for edema in ankles and feet. I am wondering if the pain in my ankles and hip and the edema is being caused by the diltiazem I have been taking apx 6 months, I have had the pain that long but no edema. The diltiazem was control on my BP nicely. ## Hello, Charlie! How are you? It is possible, it has been known to cause such symptoms as side effects, according to the FDA. It may also cause headache, nausea, dizziness, increased urination and hypotension. It might be better to speak to your doctor about trying a different medication, rather than adding more medications. Unfortunately, there have been many cases, where someone has been given another medication to treat the side effects caused by a different one…. an...

As said in title, a small round white pill with kind of rounded sides with a 2 on one side only and nothing else on either side. No line, no letter, just a 2. It's not flat because of the 2 poofy sides. That's it! Thank you. ## Hi Lin, From what I could gather, a white round pill with a 2 on one side and blank on the other, fits the description of a 2mg Nitrogard (nitroglycerin) tablet. This medication is indicated for use in treating high blood pressure, angina, and a number of other heart related ailments. For verification, I'd encourage you to get in touch with the manufacturer whom at the time was reported to be Forest Labs (also referred to as Forest Pharmaceuticals). NOTE - in early 2014 Forest Labs was acquired by Allergan; who later on in 2014 was then acquired by Ac...

I was prescribed 30 MG Nicorandil twice a day well over 2 yrs ago and I am in Canada on Holiday. I had taken all my prescribed medication with me for my trip, but when my father's health suddenly deteriorated I had to extend my stay and I have run out of Nicorandil. My father has subsequently passed away, but the medication is not available here. So is there any other medication I can take in place of it until I return home Sept 7th? I only ran out a couple of days ago and don't want to risk my health as I was using it for angina.

I have been taking adalat for 21 years now. In the last 3 years I have lived a healthier lifestyle. My BP has been great. So my doctor said I could ween myself off of medicine. What type of withdrawal symptoms can I expect to have? ## Hello, Jan! How are you doing? The FDA lists the typical ones as possibly including nausea, headache, elevated heart rate and elevated blood pressure. That's why you need to be very careful to wean off slowly, because it will help prevent your heart rate and blood pressure from hitting dangerous levels. Is there anything else I can help with?

Per cardiologist, am changing from Diltiazem ER twice daily to once daily dosing due to sinus bradycardia (48 bpm). How do I make the switch? ## Hello, Marianne! How are you? Unless your doctor instructed otherwise, you should just make a clean switch. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Verwon, Thank you for your response, but still wondering... Since I am still taking the twice a day dosage of the 120 mg. I have been taking diltiazem for at least 10yrs to control migraine headaches. I am 62 and am noticing thinning hair. Seems to have happened overnight. Has anyone experienced this and if so did you have regrowth after stopping the medicine ## Hello, Fran! How are you? The FDA does list hair loss as being among the possible side effects of this medication, along with nausea, dizziness, headache and increased urination. And yes, it usually does reverse itself, once you stop taking it. However, please do not stop it abruptly, unless your doctor tells you to do so, a sudden cessation creates the risk of dangerously elevated blood pressure and heart rate. Is there anything else I can help with? ## You have been very helpful, thanks. I weaned off medicine slowly. Hopefully I will see improveme...
