I am on the Diltiazem 240mg time release but have recently been diagnosed with Cirrhosis of the liver. Should I stop taking this med that was prescribed to me for heart races which only occurred one every couple of weeks or so about 6 years ago. I have ms also and was told that may have been the reason for these episodes. In any case how do you stop taking this medication? ## Hello, Tim! How are you? Stopping this medication abruptly may cause rebound effects, which could include dangerously elevated heart rate and blood pressure. What is the difference between the two. My husband took the ER, and I think by accident he was prescribed the SA by a different Dr. ## Hello, Shur! How are you and your husband? There is actually no difference, they are both just different abbreviations used to designate that he's been prescribed the time released formulation. The ER stands for extended release and the SA stands for sustained action, so they are different ways of saying the same thing. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, frequent urination and sore throat. Is there anything else I can help with?

Husband having some chest pain, can he take a nitro? ## Hello, SAharon! How is your husband doing? If it has been prescribed for him to treat chest pain, then yes, he should take it as directed. However, if it has not been prescribed for him and he has not been diagnosed with a condition that requires it, he should seek medical attention. Chest pain is not something worth taking a chance with. Last year, my brother tried to play it off as being bad heartburn or GERD, so he waited 3 days to go to the hospital and discovered that he'd had a heart attack. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness and headache. Is there anything else I can help with?

Any ideas on help for constipation side effect from the drug Ranexa? ## Hello, Nancy! How are you? A fiber supplement is usually the best and safest option, as long as your doctor says that it is safe for you to take one. You may also experience other side effects including nausea, dizziness, headache and stomach pain. Is there anything else I can help with? ## YES! What works great is Peri-Colace or a store brand with these two ingredients: 1. Ducosate Sodium 50mg (softening agent) *take 3 2. Sennosides 8.6mg (a stimulant) I take these with two Probiotic pills and they work better than anything else I've tried. Don't know if this works for everyone, but you will know immediately if they work. Take them before you go to bed at night and then eat breakfast. You should then know i...

I am taking Diltiazem ER 180 mg a day for atrial fibrillation. My question is whether I can take this in the evening so it does not make me so tired during the day? Thanks. ## Hi Charlie, Based on my research, the dosing indications for Diltiazem ER don't actually specify whether or not you're supposed to take it during the day or at night. It only mentions taking it "once daily" and doesn't really go into any further detail from there. So in my opinion, it sounds like it should be fine to take it at night as long as you remain consistent with one particular approach. Initially, it's also possible that you may feel a slight difference from altering the timing of your dose, but everything should level out shortly thereafter. I hope this helps! ## Hello, Charlie! Headaches can be a typical side effect of this medication, as listed by the FDA, you may also experience nausea, dizziness, flushing and redness. It should ease up, after a few weeks, once your body adjusts to the medication. If it doesn't, or if it gets worse, you should speak to your doctor. They may have ideas on what you can do to lessen them. Is there anything else I can help with?

Since I started diltiazem 8 days ago I have had 4 nose bleeds. Is that coincidence or could the drug be causing the nosebleeds? ## Hi Sharon, As strange as it may sound, "unusual bleeding or bruising" is listed as a severe side effect of this drug; in which case it suggests that you contact your doctor immediately. Referenced from: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0000815/#a684027-sideEffects Some of these medications have the weirdest side effects, but it's a good thing we know the cause of it now. How are you? Did you mean that you're feeling your heart beat, you're having palpitations? If so, that could actually be due to low blood pressure. As listed by the FDA, Isosorbide is most commonly used to treat angina and yes, it can cause lowered blood pressure as a side effect, along with nausea, dizziness, headache and palpitations. Are you having chest pain? This medication isn't for treating the palpitations.
