I have osteoporosis. I had 2x reclast infusion. how many times does medicare cover this infusion? ## Hi Lucy, According to the link below, medicare seems to have stopped paying for Reclast infusions as of July 1st, 2013. However, they do list coverage for the generic version (Zoledronic Acid 1mg Infusions): cms.gov/Outreach-and-Education/Medicare-Learning-Network-MLN/MLNMattersArticles/downloads/MM8286.pdf That document might be old though and I'll also admit that certain information on their website comes off as if I'm reading hieroglyphs. So I would still encourage you to contact medicare directly just to be sure that you have updated information on specific coverage. Their contact page can be found at: questions.cms.gov/newrequest.php?id=5005&subtopicID=8296# I hope this ...

I have been taking Faslodex and Zometa for the past 9 months for breast cancer, metasis to the bone. Faslodex was increased to 500mg monthly from 250mg the last 4 months. Has anyone had increased side effects from the increase to 500mg? Back pain, leg cramps, tingling in hands, with aching arms, are just a few. I never know when they are going to start, onset is fast and strong. Much more fatigue, also ## Sorry to read of your condition and I hope your treatments help you beat it. It is normal to experience more side effects any time your dosage is raised on a medication, it should start to taper off as your body adjusts to the new dosage. However, all cancer medications are very harsh on the body, so you will probably always have some side effects. Fasodex contains the active ingredien...

I have been informed that EEST HS is now a CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE !! I have been taking this med for several years as hormone replacement therapy. Now, my prescription plan has changed my expiration date from 1 year to 6 months, and I have to contact my physician for a triplicate controlled substance prescription which must be mailed in and cannot be faxed in. What is going on ?? When did this happen ?? ## Methyltestosterone has actually been considered a controlled substance since 1990, under the Anabolic Steroid Act. It's just that pharmacies are now being made to abide by the laws that were put in place at that time. Learn more Methyltestosterone details here. So yes, they are telling you the truth. My husband has metastatic lung cancer and has been on Xalkori. The drug appears to be working (the cancer has not spread anymore). I am looking to hear stories about other people's experience using the drug. ## Very glad to read that it's working for him. However, it seems you're the first person that's posted on our site about this medication. We do have a monograph page for it here: Is he experiencing any side effects? ## I started on Xalkori last fall. I am feeling better than I have in 3-1/2 years. My shortness of breath has been almost entirely eliminated. I feel my energy and motivation coming back. ## My mother started Zalkori 6 days ago. It has really knocked her down quite a bit. Lots of stomach upset and she is very week. Just hoping that she can adjust to the ...

I have been taking this drug for 5 weeks and am having almost no side effects except odema--swelling of the legs and hands-anyone else have this--bowels appetite all good and sleeping well Thanks Roger ## Hi Roger I've been taking Xalkori for 11 months and the last seven or eight months have seen an huge increase in oedema of hands / arms and ankles / feet. We're trying various options, decreasing the dose, taking diuretics which has some effect but not if you're hot / flying / walking a lot. I'm guessing we're stuck with it - goodbye to posh shoes and gloves... I've found side effects to come and go. Nausea and bowel issues are my constants although I'm used to it now, and stripy vision at night. But the oedema is by far the most debilitating. ## Hello again...

My mother was told to apply this cream on the backs of her hands and arms up to her upper arms as her skin was covered in spots. After a week her skin was so red and swollen that she couldn't bend her elbows to answer the phone or bend her fingers to grip. Now two months later her hands are still red and very sore and her bones ache in her hands so she can't grip things. ## Yes, this is used to treat certain types of skin cancer. The NIH lists the typical side effects as possibly including skin redness, irritation, flaking, and dryness. The severe swelling, however, is a concern and is an issue she should have checked out by her doctor. Has there been any change? Or is she still having these issues? Is she on any other medications?

I went to the clinic to do a Pap smear and the results were negative. The final diagnosis was high grade squamous intraepithelial lesion, of which I do not know what it is? ## Hello, Malatu! How are you? This means that they found cells present that are precancerous. That doesn't mean you have cancer, according to NIH listings, but there is a risk in the future that they it could turn into cancer. Calling them high grade indicates the presence of moderate, or severe precancerous cells. However, as I said, that does not mean you have cancer, it just means they found a high number of abnormal cells that might become cancerous in the future, but there is also a chance that they will not. Did your doctor provide any advice?

So i have been on my menstrual for almost 2 months and i seen my obgyn about a month ago and she prescribed prov-era once a day and said that it would stop the bleeding! Its now been 3 and a half weeks since i been taking the prov-era and i am still bleeding and She prescribed megestrol 20 mg for me to take along with it. Will this finally work??? Im so frustrated!! ## There is no way that anyone can tell you definitively, it can vary from woman to woman, since we are all different. It can be a matter of trial and error to find what works for any given one of us to stop such an issue. The FDA lists the typical side effects of these medications as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, and PMS-like symptoms. How old are you? Are you on any other medications? Hey :) So I have question my dad he has cancer he taking a new medicine called JAKAFI and his Dr he gave to him another medicine called HYDROXYUREA So Do you guys know if any there sife effect to taking both in a same time ? Also he has a problem in spleen and blood Thanks alot please reply me as soon as possible ## Hi Lana, From what I could gather, there are potentially unsafe drug interactions between Jakafi (ruxolitinib) and Hydroxyurea. Quoted below are the precautions you should be aware of: "MONITOR CLOSELY: The concomitant or sequential administration of multiple antineoplastic agents may potentiate the risk and severity of additive toxicities, such as immunosuppression and myelotoxicity. MANAGEMENT: Close clinical and laboratory monitoring for hematologic and nonhematologic...

I may be getting a prostate biopsy and just wanted to know what I'm for. I'm I put to sleep,is there pain or discomfort, will I have trouble urinating. This is my original problem, sloow steam and my psa is above 6 what ever that means. I'm 61 ## Hello, Don! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. PSA stands for prostate specific antigen, it's what's used to measure if you may have an infection, or prostate cancer. The biopsy will let the know which. There may be some discomfort and bleeding, afterwards, that can occur with any biopsy. Your urination issues will not likely change, as reported by the NIH. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Please advise me for what is the alternative to MRI scan for a prostate cancer diagnosis, since...

My mother suffered from angiosarcoma of the scalp diagnosed in 2015. She went thru chemo and radiation. She was put on votrient after the radiation. It ran her BP up so much that she had to quit taking it. She now has recurring tumors in the scalp. She had remaining votrient and had the great idea of crushing the tablets and making a paste to apply directly to the tumors in her scalp. I told her not to do this, but she is a retired nurse and doesn't listen to anyone. She ended up breaking out in a rash that is currently covering her entire torso. Dr has no idea what it is. Could it be related to using the votrient for this purpose? ## Yes, there is a chance that it is due to this use of the Votrient. It could also cause skin flaking, and dryness, according to NIH reports. What type ...

They don't give you the real name of the cure in these advertisements. "H-86" is just a pseudonym they use in the ad in order to describe it. Only after you pay and subscribe, you get the book with the real name and where to get it. I do not have this book, but I can assure you that Jenny Thompson and the Health Sciences Institute is legitimate. I used to subscribe some years ago. They have a group of top medical researchers and have discovered some astounding natural cures years before they hit the mainstream. I remember some years back, I got some cream through them that cured my friend's psoriasis in a week. She had been to doctors for years and they couldn't get it cured. They are definitely not a scam. (And I don't work for them or get paid to say this.) ## ...

Does taking medical marijuana adversely affect the treatment? I am taking an 800mg dose of Gleevec a day and have had my tumor removed. ## As of this time, tests have not shown marijuana to adversely react with any medications, or treatments. However, it can have some adverse effects on your lungs, overall, according to FDA reports, just like smoking anything else would. It can also cause dizziness, and a very bad case of the munchies, from what I've heard. LOL Given that you are on Gleevec and have had a tumor removed, it is always best to double check with your doctor about adding, or changing anything else, just to be extra careful. How are you reacting to the Gleevec? Have you experienced any problematic side effects from it?

Our daughter has advanced stage IV double lung cancer which has metastasized all throughout her body. She is now on IV dilaudid for her severe pain. Works very well. What, as your opinion, is her outlook? Would like to know as much as we can about this medication (including its side effects). Thank you. ## Dilaudid is a potent opiate narcotic that is used to treat severe pain. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. Not being a doctor, I really can't speak as to her outlook, cancer is much more complicated to treat and eradicate, once it has metastasized. Regarding the medication, I can tell you that studies have shown that providing such a patient with proper doses to...

My father could not do cheomo due to low white blood cell count, is there something that he can take to build it back up ## I'm no doctor but I heard of a drug released by Amgen called Neupogen which is supposed to stimulate the production of white blood cells. Your doctor should have more information on this and other possible treatments. Good luck! Amgen site info: ## Hello Ty, Based on my research, low white blood cell counts are indicative of a suppressed immune system. My research tell me that the diet can play a huge role in keeping the immune system strong and the white blood cell count at a healthy level.
