The Diovan HCT combines the ARB medication Valsartan with the diuretic Hydrochlorothiazide, which removes excess fluids from the body. The regular Diovan just contains the ARB medication Valsartan. I have been taking half a tab of Seloken XL 25mg each morning for the last 3 years for high bp and my bp remains 130/90. Do I need to continue taking this or should I consult my doc for a change of medicine? ## Seloken XL contains the active ingredient Metoprolol in a time release formulation, it is most commonly used to help control high blood pressure. You definitely need to keep taking the medication and consult with your doctor regarding any changes. That is still not a normal blood pressure reading and stopping this medication abruptly can cause severe health problems, such as sudden blood pressure spikes, cardiac problems and heart attacks.

I've been on Benicar 20mg. for 1 mo. and just had it upped to 40 mg. B/P is coming down; but I have daily sinus-type headaches and serious shoulder/neck muscle pain. Is this normal? ## Yes, those are normal side effects for most blood pressure medications. I've been experiencing something similar and I just started Atacand a few days ago, it is in the same class of medications. These types of side effects usually wear off once your body adjusts to the medication, but you may experience them, again, whenever you are put on a higher dosage.
