I have a bottle of westward 473 10mg can I take two pills to make it 20mg without a problem I have asthma and the 10 mg is not really helping a while ago I took 20mg and it really helped ## Hello, Ken! How are you? West-ward Pharmaceuticals lists this tablet as containing 10mgs of Prednisone, so no, you shouldn't raise your dosage, without your doctors approval. How long have you been taking the current dosage? It does take a few days for it to work. The FDA classifies this medication as a steroid and lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, acne, weight gain and insomnia.

I have had problems with my platelets. They dropped to 19,000 should be 140,000 or more. My immune system is not recognizing them and they are being destroyed. It was great for my asthma, but not for my immune system. Should there be blood tests done regularly while on this drug? It is rare but it an happen known as thrombocytopenia purpura. ## Hello, Terry! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem you had. As to the blood work, it's usually not done, when a possible issue is so rare. Otherwise, a lot of money would be spent to check millions of people for an issue that almost never happens. The typical side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, cough, difficulty swallowing fever and headache. Have they given you any treatment options? ## No just take my in...

Stopped taking this six weeks ago and have had joint and muscle pain bad could this be due to stopping medication ## Hello, Sharon! How are you? How long were you using it? As listed by the FDA, it does contain a steroid and stopping it may cause some withdrawal effects, if you were using it for a long time, but 6 weeks is an unusual time frame to still be experiencing them. Its typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, weight gain and acne. Are you on any other medications?

RE: Ventolin inhaler. If I take a hair folicle test will the result be positive on Methampetamine? ## Although many nasal sprays and inhalers can test false positive for Amphetamines (including meth), I actually haven't found anything specific to this drug. If you ever do test positive though I would try and dispute it as best you can; because on the cheaper less reliable drug tests, it seems as though anything is likely to show up no matter what you took. One site I typically go to when checking for false positives is askdocweb; however they don't seem to have information on the drug you mentioned. It may be a good link for future reference though: askdocweb.com/falsepositives.html I hope this helps! ## My brother is on house arrest and he was breathalyzed and it showed 0.05 an...

Can anyone tell me if weight loss is a side effect of xolair, and if so why does it cause weight loss. Has anyone experience it firsthand. I would greatly appreciate the imput of this subject. ## Hello, Lulu! How are you? No, that isn't listed among the detailed side effects provided by the FDA. They typically include congestion, fever, headache, hoarseness and itching. How much have you lost? Are you on any other medications?

Have been on symbicort for 7 years and it's worked great for asthma but I have put on 30+ lbs and have developed a very noticeable "buffalo hump" on my neck.justvstarting researching corticosteroid side effects - after years of diet and a lot of exercise, my weight won't budge. With family history of osteoporosis and diabetes, I am concerned about continuing. Making appt with GP tomorrow, but wondering if anyone else has experienced these particular side effects. ## Hello, Carrie! How are you? Yes, please see your doctor as soon as possible. You may have developed Cushing's Syndrome, which requires medical treatment. It can develop due to prolonged exposure to cortisol. Do you have any of the other symptoms that the NIH lists, such as acne, a rounded face, high blood...

I started Xolair when I was 16 and I have now been on the drug for 5 years. Before Xolair my asthma and allergies were uncontrollable. I had been on steroids full time since I was 7, and as a result of this I was combatting multiple steroid side effects such as thinning bones, stunted development, weight issues and many more. Even on full time steroids my asthma was uncontrollable. I spent my childhood in and out of hospitals and only managed to attend school part time. My illness effected every part of my life. My parents and my pediatrician had been pushing for me to start Xolair and at 16 I was finally able to get onto a trail of the drug. I can honestly say it has 100% changed my life. It worked like a miracle. I was able to come off steroids for the first time in 9 years. I stopped...

Just wanted to let everyone know what I do to prevent my unit from clogging. I dilute the medicine 2 parts distilled water to 1 part medicine and keep it in a little squeeze dropper bottle. The diluted medicine works better for me as I can take more inhalations without it making my heart race and it keeps the unit from clogging. I usually only clean it once every few days now. ## Nick, thanks so much for your suggestion. I've been using the atomizer for about a year, and its helped me more than any other asthma medication, with none of the harmful side effects I experienced from the others. The only problem I've been having is occasional clogging of the unit, especially when I use it very frequently. I actually had thought of your idea before but I wasn't sure it would work ...

After using Symbicort for only two days, I developed intense back pain sending me to the ER. That pain began on May 25th and it is now July 9th and the pain is still very bad, mostly in lumbar area and side. No pain down either leg. After going to ER two times for pain help, and two other doctors. I went to a pain doctor. I was given an injection in my back on the right side on June 25th. I am due for the second injection on July 28th on the left side. The pain is still severe and I am on Hydrododone 7.5 / 325 every 4 hours. The pain doctor wants to be in complete charge of pain meds, so I am only on the hydrocodone. How long does this Symbicort remain in my body? I am really depressed and discouraged. Please help. I had done nothing to bring this pain on and first noticed a slight back...

I HAVE AN ITCHY, RED BLISTERING RASH ON BOTH SHINS. CAN IT BE CAUSED BY SYMBICORT? I HAVE COPD, EMPHYSEMA AND HEP C. I HAVE ALSO BEEN ITCHING QUITE A BIT, WITHOUT RASH, ALL OVER MY BODY FOR THE PAST TWO MONTHS. ANY IDEAS WHAT IT MIGHT BE RELATED TO? ## Symbicort contains the active ingredient Formoterol and Bedesonide and yes, it has been known to cause both types of side effects, in some people. It can affect your circulation, which makes you more susceptible to allergens and it can also, sometimes, cause such rashes. Have you consulted your doctor? You may need to switch to a different medication. ## I have taken Symbicort for 2 weeks and I have the same blistering rash. I itch everywhere. I hope it goes away soon. It is very uncomfortable. ## I have a red rash on my elbows and on my ...

I just started taking sympicort for copd. Can I take tums, ibuprofen, tylenol, or bc powders with this medicine? I am googleing it and it never tells me if I can or not. ## Hello, Amy! How are you? While you are always welcome to ask here, if you wish to research for yourself in the future, look for an interaction checker. That will help you find the information you need. Now, as to the medications in question… No, on the Ibuprofen, it increased the toxicity of the ingredients in the Symbicort. It may cause the Tums to not work as well, since you won't retain an absorb as much of it as usual. As the to BC powders, I can't check those, without knowing the specific ones to check their ingredients. Can you please post back and clarify? Thank you! The FDA lists the typical sid...

Anyone know a source for the atomizer? All local stores are out of stock and if you find one on the web, they're 150.00..... for that price I'm better off at urgent care.... ## I'm in the same boat. I cannot find the atomizer. The pharmacist told me that the product was discontinued. I'm not sure though. I think that some atomizers were recalled. In any event, there's always the option of a nebulizer. It does not fit in your pocket. However, it does work the same as an atomizer. Hope you find relief. ## I gave up on the EZ breathe atomizer a long time ago and bought a different one. I'm using DeVilbiss 45 Lexan Plastic Pocket Nebulizer. It's old school, but works fine for me. ## As I posted before with Asthmanefrin gone I'm getting by with an e-cig and mi...

I have a pretty bad cold (could be the flu) and I heard Pentrexyl is pretty good for it, but I also have asthma, and I don't want it to conflict with my current meds. ## Hello, Julz! How are you? No, Pentrexyl will not do anything to treat a cold or flu. As listed by the FDA, it is an antibiotic and is only effective at treating or preventing bacterial infections. However, cold and flu are both caused by viruses. The typical side effects of antibiotics may also include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Taking it inappropriately could result in your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria, so you should only take it when your doctor has verified the presence of an infection and instructed you to do so. Is there anything else I can help with?

We were in an area of high mold content--Xolair does not help mold allergies. Started having asthma, and began prednisone. 6 days after starting prednisone I had my Xolair injection (Doc said it would be fine). 2 days following Xolair injection my asthma got much worse despite increasing prednisone to 40mg. Has anyone had a similar experience, i.e. Xolar injection, then onset of severe asthma. ## Hello, Rk! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems that you're having. You actually need to be on the Xolair for awhile, before it will start working to reduce your asthma symptoms. Having an allergy attack that close to it being administered didn't even give it a chance to start working to prevent it. It doesn't work like antihistamines and rescue inhalers do. Do you have a r...

Hi everybody, I've been on Xolair for 7 months for an uncontrollable asthma. Last month I passed two kidney stones. Lab work shows calcium within normal range but my PTH levels keep going up weekly. I'm suspicious that Xolair might have caused this since it's an immune system related condition. I'm still under treatment and very concerned that there might be a relation. Has anybody experienced parathyroid issues with Xolair? I appreciate your input. ## Hello, Maly! How are you? No, I didn't find anything about it doing so in the detailed side effects provided by the FDA, though it's never possible to say how any medication may affect anyone that uses it. The typical side effects are listed as possibly including pain at administration site, swelling, runny nose or...
