Anyone Else Trying Savella For Fibromyalgia? (Page 27) (Top voted first)

Updated

This is a new medication that just came out for fibromyalgia. I have several other conditions involving spinal degeneration , herniated discs, arthritus, etc.
I've been taking this medication for a little over 2 weeks now and have worked up to the full dose. My biggest symptom seems to be upset stomach but I don't know if it's from the Savella or from de-toxing from 7 other medications that I've been on for over 10+ yrs.
Is there anyone else out there that has started this medication that can give me any information that they may have on it?

I started taking Savella about 5 months ago for my Fibromyalgia. I noticed an immediate change in how I felt after just taking the first 2 weeks titration pack. I had been getting samples from my Doctor's office. the office tried to get my insurance to pay for it, but they refused, they wanted me to try cymbalta therapy first. Well let me tell you, I was feeling so good with the Savella that I was telling my Doctor to start weaning me off all of the other firbro medications. then I started the Cymbalta Therapy. IT SUCKED!!!!! Within the first 3 weeks of the therapy I had gained 15# most of it in fluid weight in my ankles. I was crying all the time, and was feeling like I was jumping out of my skin all of the time. My husband and many of my friends wondered what was going on, I finally decided that something needed to be done, when I cried watching a coffee commercial. I went to my Doctor, and he immediately started weaning me off the cymbalta, and began the Savella again. I am into the 2 week of the starter pack again, and again am feeling great, and will begin to start the withdrawl from the other meds at the beginning of next month.

Deeters --- I have had a lot of experience with insurance trying to tell me what drugs my Autistic son can take. I am always so incredulous, thinking--Seriously? You people at a desk somewhere think you know what drug is going to be better for my son than his psychiatrist? It always makes me so mad, but I have never given in to them. I always have my doctor write them a letter and they always cave in and let us have the drug we asked for. That is so ridiculous that the insurance would want you to try Cymbalta first. They are both extremely expensive!, so why do they care? I had two boys on Cymbalta for about two years, then we weaned them off and put them back on Lexapro. Cymbalta has a serious weight gain problem--even though they advertise that they don't. I gained 12 pounds on Cymbalta, so I took myself off of it slowly. Now I take Savella and am doing really well on it. Good luck, and I'm happy it helps you. Apparently the side effects are too much for some people, but it seems to work well for some people.

So happy for you. Savella has not worked for me. I will be weaning off of it starting tomorrow. Really was hoping it would work. Going to the rheumatologist to see what he can do. Wish me luck and good luck to you all.

Phyllis, good luck to you. I too have stopped the Savella. It did not work for me either. I gave it time and it did nothing for me and I felt the side affects were just not worth staying on it any longer if it was not going to help with the pain. I do hope you find relief somewhere in some form. Good luck with the rheumatologist. Thank you for your help I have appreciated your input. God Bless.

I have been off for nearly three monthes or more and I feel so much better. I take the Supple drink for my joints and I am now taking an all natural anti inflammatories and pain reliever. Still have pain but not any worse than when I was on Savella and with none of the horrible side effects. I am down to one valium a day to help keep my uscles s relaxed as possible and I hope never to have to do anything more than that. No more sweating and flushing. Life is good!

Most of my pain is in my muscles, only occasionally in my joints! Hurts the most through my back, my shoulders, my arm muscles. I'm starting to think that I have Chronic Fatigue maybe instead of or in addition to Fibromyalgia. I don't feel like I can tell anyone because they will all think I am just being a wuss. Thankfully my husband believes me.

I have constant pain in the muscles of my neck and shoulders, Savella never made that better and neither does the Supple. I am allergic to all anti-inflammmatories and steroids which helps with muscle ache but maybe a muscle relaxant or prescription Aleve would help with your pain. It did for me before my body became allergic to it. Might be worth a try, neither is as filled with the bad reactions most suffer with Savella. I'm lucky too, have a family that beleives in my pain and helps with things that I know will cause me to hurt.

I have tried Aleve in high doses and everything over the counter and Lyrica and Savella. I will be going to a rheumatologist in 10 day and hope to get some answers. I have trouble walking some days and that is not good. I have to work and have a young daughter still at home. I will not take any prescription pain meds,,,scared of them.

I have been on Savella for 7 weeks. I could not stop my wellbutrin and just take the savella, after a psycho month they added my wellbutrin. After starter pack I went to just 1 100 mg a day. At the very same time I started physical therapy. There they used a tens unit, and when I got done the first time I couldnt see well for an hour and had a headache. Since then even on days I didnt have PT I have had trouble with blurred vision and headaches along with nausea and constipation. I cannot see things 5" from my face and have headachea that could take down King Kong!
This was the last hope for me...have tried every fibro drug out there, none of it worked for me. I 41 and have the body of an 80 year old woman! There is no light and the end of my tunnel! EVER!

I have been the same route though our reactions are different to Savella.I have gone off everything but one Valium and Ambien CR at night. I have gone all natural, (read my past posts) and have felt the best I have in the last four years. What can it hurt to try? Natural does not make you feel crazy and depressed the way these other drugs do. I have lived that frustration.....

Dee Dee. This past week I went to dinner with a friend who has been doing acupuncture for bursitis in her hip and she said there was a lady there having it for fibromyalgia -- I may try that some day! Just another option to think about.

I noticed you said you were on Prozac and Topomax before. Funny, because so was I. I have quit taking the Prozac now, because my depression/anxiety has gotten better, but now with the fibromyalgia, some of those feelings are coming back. One of the side effects I noticed right away from the savella was nausea. Was wondering if you noticed this at all?

Nausea is a very common and annoying side effect of Savella. It gets a bit better with time, but I have noticed that I absolutely have to eat something before I take it. Then, during the day, I really can't get too hungry or nausea starts to set in. I just try to eat a little all day long. I would not be able to function without Savella because I cannot take any pain meds except OTC stuff.

I took Levaquin for pneumonia, twice in six months. Have never known anyone to say there could be a correlation between this drug and developing fibromyalgia. I was just recently diagnosed with he fibro. Am managing or trying to manage the pain with tylenol and naprosyn but its not taking all the pain away. I don't want to go on the strong meds, too many bad side effects.

I am still on the 25mg dose from the tri pack. The pain meds my Dr added has helped me a lot.. so it's hard to say at this point if it's the pain med or the Savella thats doing the job. I haven't noticed much in mood swings since starting it. However before I started I was crying every day... The pain, the stress, etc. So I hope this will work for me. Thanks so much to all who share their experiences with this med, it's really helpful to read how others are doing.

Tramadol is the ONLY drug that worked for me, but now no doctor will prescribe a narcotic for fibromyalgia. I took it for 11 years and felt great every single day. I would do anything to be on it again - even try to get it in Mexico or illegally. It is the only thing that ever worked for me. I went to the doctor today and was completely honest with her about wanting it, but she would only give Savella. The first one in the sample pack has made me very nauseated - too much even to eat something. Very discouraged.

Hi I am new to this forum. I have have fibro for about 10 years now, also spinal stenosis, and several bulging discs. I have been on Savella now for over a year and it has truly been a God send. At first I had extreme nausea and my doc added phenergan to help. I have had way less pain. I am also on 5 mg oxycodone hcl twice a day and methadone 5mg twice a day. My doctor just bumped me up to 100mg of Savella twice a day. I have had some weight gain, but it is due to other issues. I have also been started on xanax this past month due to bad panic and anxiety attacks. I was tried on the cymbalta and lyrica and had severe allergic reaction to both. I have enjoyed reading the posts and hope that this forum is still active. Its nice to be able to discuss things that others just dont understand.
