Anyone Else Trying Savella For Fibromyalgia? (Page 28) (Top voted first)

Updated

This is a new medication that just came out for fibromyalgia. I have several other conditions involving spinal degeneration , herniated discs, arthritus, etc.
I've been taking this medication for a little over 2 weeks now and have worked up to the full dose. My biggest symptom seems to be upset stomach but I don't know if it's from the Savella or from de-toxing from 7 other medications that I've been on for over 10+ yrs.
Is there anyone else out there that has started this medication that can give me any information that they may have on it?

Kathleen yes nausea was so bad at first that I would just projectile throw up. My doc put me on phenergan for the first month with it and now no side effects at all, just pure relief. I love my savella and recommend it to everyone with fibro to try just a least for a month and always tell them to ask for the phenergan just in case.

Everybody is so different, I have fibro, and degenerative disc disease...osteo arthritis everywhere..savella, never made me sick at all. It could be withdrawals from what they took you off. Ive had no weight gain, only relief. I could not take lyrica or cymbalta, bad reaction. Tramadol did nothing. I just have some days much worse than others, and sugar should be eliminated for fibro...i.e. all white carbs, refined anything. You will notice a huge difference and might lose some weight, I do not eat any dessert anymore, but once you get no sugar, you won't crave it.

DV -- I have been on Savella for two years now. You need to eat before you take it. And, don't go hungry--just keep a little something in your stomach all the time. It has helped me so much--I will sing its praises forever.

I seem to notice that so many of these Medications involve mind confusion and memory losses and I missed one dose of Cymbalta and got a Migraine. I say all this cause I have had Fibro for 13 years and this is the first time I have been able to use medications (lack of Insurance) and from what I am reading from you all, it just seems that all Fibro patients are looking for relief from our pain, and it seems like all these meds have Mental repercussions. Do you all think it is possible that the doctors still think this pain is in our heads and are prescribing Psychiatric drugs that have some (And I use the term very loosely) pain relieving properties. I think the doctors are just relieving the psychosis they all think we have?? What do you all think?? Thanks for listening. On another note I am tired of telling my doctors that I am in PAIN level 8-9 pain and being prescribed 30mg Cymbalta once a day. Did she think I was kidding? I feel like I am gonna be in a wheelchair in less than a year. I am working a physical 12 hour a day job and I feel like I am dying, it is everything I can do to pull through it. Any advice? Should I fire my Doctor, I know she is just now seeing me for the first times but That doesn't mean I have not been dealing with it for an extremely Long time.

Hi, I've been on savella now for almost a year. Oddly enough, it's always made me sick off and on. Just within the last several months, it can even make me throw up and feel like I have the flu! I've been trying to wean myself off slowly and am down to taking one every 3 days. It does help my fibro pain which is why I am reluctant to get off it! The sweating did reside after awhile. My biggest side effect is definitely the nausea.

i have been on various meds for years and started the savilla treatment about 2 months ago after building up to a 50mg dosage twice a day. my pain has definitely diminished and i do have more energy but the hot flashes and sweating are much more intense than anything i experienced while going thru menopause-and i thought that was intense! 2 hours after i take my morning dose i suddenly turn very red, get miserably hot and sweat so heavily that my clothes are drenched. this happens with a lessening intensity throughout the day, every few hours and then after my nightly dose starts all over again. a week ago i cut my morning dose down to half a pill, 25mg. and do the 50mg. full dose at night but am going to cut that dose in half tonight and will see how much of my pain returns. i am hoping i can get a balance i can live with because after all the drugs i have tried over the years savilla does work the best. i will keep all of you posted.

I was on it for nearly a yearr, you can read my postings back for monthes, but the bottom line was the sweating and hot flashes were unbearable. Cutting the dosage did not diminish that side effect and my pain started to come back. I now drink a supplement called Supple, all natural and the pain that Savella prevented in my elbows is allieved by this juice. It has a high concentration of Vitamin K, and thats what my doctor believes helps me. Had it not been for the sweating and flushing, I could have lived with the constipation and insomnia, there werebremedies for that but not the hot flashes. Good Luck.

Hello everyone. I'm new to this site and just trying to figure out the do's and don'ts of this horrible disease. I was diagnosed 1 year ago with Fibro after going to one doctor after another for nearly 10 years. I finally got to the right doctor who prescribed Savella 50mg 2x a day but I only take it once. Twice a day gives me horrible headaches, nausea and terrible heart palpitations. While I do have some relief with the Savella, I still suffer from quite a bit of pain and I find that I am really depressed a lot lately. Don't know if it's because of the pain, the medication or both. Any suggestions? How do you deal with this. Thank you.

My symptoms started shortly after taking levoquin for an upper respiratory infection. The Savella is better on the stomach with food. I've been taking 100mg for about 6 mo. My mid to lower body pain has improved dramatically, but my head, neck and shoulder pain hasn't improved at all.

Dear TamJean, I just ran acoss this blog and am glad I did, as you sound alot like me! I have fibro, chronic fatigue immune system dysfunction, osteo, endometrosis. Have had 3 surgeries for the endo, the last in May 2012; think they got most of it this tiime! Anyway, my rhem just put me on Savella and I am feeling alot better! I plan to take 1/2 doses of the starter pack to reduce the sweating side effect and the slight nausea; however thank The Lord, my pain and fatigue are quite a bit better after only being on it for 3 days now! I will pray for you and suggest maybe you give the Savella a try; if you're sensitive to meds like me, try the 1/2 dose. Take Care and God Bless.

Hi, I just started Savella 3 days ago, and it's helped alot already; have mild nausea and sweats tho. May try 1/2 the 50 mg dose to let my body adjust slowly. I also have been using Melatonin, time relase at bed time and now sleep like a baby! It's a natural sleep hormone, worth trying! Take Care and God Bless!

I think I am starting Savella today. In the past month I have weaned off Cymbalta and am currently weaning off Lyrica...The worse experience, still have a weak to go. I am just trying to get as much info on this med as I can. I have had neuropathy since the 1980's , had been on Gabapentin from 2002 until 2012..and then went from amitriptaline, off amatriptaline onto ??, added Cymbalta, off ?? added Lyrica, off Cybalta and now off Lyrica...nothing helping. I was doing great until foot surgery in Aug 2012...I am very discouraged...worked very hard at losing 107 # have gained bacm 50 of them...so, if my insurance will approve of the meds, I am going to try this...thanks for letting me vent.

I took savella for 2 months. The hot flashes were horrible & the nausea never gors away. After about 2 mo ths of taki g it U started to have very hostile thoughts. It was controllable thoughts. I started winging mysrlf off of it & made the dr take me of off it. I have never had a med play with my brain as much as savella did.

I just got put on Savella for what im assuming is Fibromyalgia. I have been in a lot of pain. I also take Tramadol and Norco but I am worried about taking the Tramadol with the Savella because of Seritonin syndrome. I will have to stop using the Tramadol for a while and see if the Savella is better. I am worried about RLS as a side effect of the Savella as I already have it pretty bad... Only time will tell.

It is funny that you mentioned Cipro. I had no unusual health issues at the time and was placed on Cipro for a sinus infection. A couple of days on the antibiotics and I became sick with horrible stomach pain and throwing up. My dr. took me off Cipro, but I never really got better. The doctors could not figure out what was wrong for over a year. It turns out I gallbladder disease, which I never had trouble with before taking Cipro. It seems that was my start of unexplainable illnesses. From there, shin splints that would never go away, involuntary muscle contractions, joint pain, memory loss, difficulty concentrating, numbness in hands and feet, spasms from neck to toe, and the intestianal issues. It started in 2008 and I was just recently diagnosed in November 2008. Like everyone else, I just want to know how/why and find a cure.

Hi all I have read a lot of these post.. I have been on Savella for 2 1/2 years and it has been great for me. Yes I did have the initial dizzy and nausea feeling along with mild head ache but it did not last long. I take 100 mg twice a day. It does not make it go completely away you can still feel the pain slightly in the back ground. But it is not throbbing and burning and unbearable as it had been. I would also like to add that I do still have my flare ups and in those times nothing helps!!
