Anyone Else Trying Savella For Fibromyalgia? (Page 29) (Top voted first)
UpdatedThis is a new medication that just came out for fibromyalgia. I have several other conditions involving spinal degeneration , herniated discs, arthritus, etc.
I've been taking this medication for a little over 2 weeks now and have worked up to the full dose. My biggest symptom seems to be upset stomach but I don't know if it's from the Savella or from de-toxing from 7 other medications that I've been on for over 10+ yrs.
Is there anyone else out there that has started this medication that can give me any information that they may have on it?
Also don't just go by other peoples experience with medication. What works with their body chemistry might not work with yours. Thank goodness their are choices.
To bad that medicare doesn't cover by savela. Im in fix income cant pay $180 for it i have on it for over a year i cant pay for it if you can pay for it then my addvise to take it it helps a little
I'm curious if you're still taking Savella once a day. I have no side effects from the morning dose but the evening dose ruins my sleep, doesn't help the pain and causes horrible night sweats. My doctor trusts me and pretty much left the dosage up to me due to my extreme sensitivity to higher doses of just about any medication. I think I'll go back to only morning dosing and see if I continue to improve.
Hi I been on lexapro for few years and seems to help.now my pain doctor wants to put me on savella and go off lexapro, but i dont want to.anything else for pain than switching meds?
I have been on Savella for about a year and I have had some depression and anxiety. My doctor added Wellibutrin about 4 months ago and it took a little while to work but I am feeling much better now. I have also lost some weight being on the Wellibutrin.
Yes, I had to add another antidepressant to the Savella. It really helped and Im not depressed any longer.
This is my 3rd week and have made it to 50 MG 2x day.it has made me nauseated everytime.it's gets a little easier if I take it with food but Dr thinks this will go away. I can't really tell if it's helping bease I work 12 hour days but maybe my hips and legs don't hurt as bad.had to quit taking gabapentin and Mobic .I feel like my head is in a daze all the time but going to give Savella a little longer.Good luck. Claudia
On Savella now for about 5 weeks.100mg twice a day. Was able to go off my prozac altogether. I have not gained weight (as I did with Lyrica). Has lessened the fibro pain. Had to have 3 epidurals (steroids) and 2 trigger point injections in my lower back for pain. Then had a couple triggerpoint injections and 5 or 6 injections (pain blockers) in my neck and back of head. All did what they were supposed to do. Feel better and believe that we are on the right track with the meds.
Just started Levoquin 100mg for infection on finger. What next?????
THIS IS FOR JUST ME:
Not to be critical----Grow up and quit feeling sorry for yourself. Here's a secret to not dwelling on our pain. Think of the young soldier serving his country and has half his face blown away, he can't see or hear. His legs are amputated and he'll have to learn to walk again if he can. Think about the 1000's of soldiers who are suffering... Say a prayer to God and thank him that you are not feeling the pain of that soldier. Think of 9-11 victims that have had 90% of their bodies burned. It's not a pretty picture.
You've got 2 choices: Live to be happy or live to be miserable. Only you can make that choice. Do the best with what God has given to you. A positive attitude and humor will go along way. You can sit on your pity pot with all your aches and pains...and DWELL on the hand that Life has thrown you. It will only make it worse and you'll have more to bitch and moan and complain about.
I'm not trying to downplay anyones pain as I've been suffering for the most part of my life with multiple diseases and conditions. That's all I got to say about that. Why dwell?
I was on Cymbalta before starting the Savella. I was very anxious about how stopping the Cymbalta and starting the Savella would affect my mood. Surprisingly, my mood remains good, if not better, since starting the Savella. It has also decreased my pain. Good Luck and remain positive. Like you, I didn't know what was wrong with me until a rheumatologist diagnosed me with FB about 3 years ago. There are new treatments developed every day so I remain positive and hopeful.
I don't seem to be able to break this wave of pain that's upon me. One minute everything is ok, then a simple touch, the brush of fabric or just moving the wrong way sends me into orbit. Hubby was rubbing my back and it felt so good. Then in the blink of an eye it felt like razors on my skin that went straight to the bone. Wish I understood all the in's and out's of FM. Would make life so much easier. Also, running out of energy midstream gets me. As I was walking the flea market I had to stop. I simply couldn't take another step. I finally made it to the car but had to cut the day short and head for home. UGH!
Do all FM sufferers go thru this? It SUCKS!
Still haven't heard from the Pain Clinic. I may put a call into them later today if I haven't heard anything.
On a positive note, I was able to shave my legs, LOL! Hey, it's the little things that count. Right???
OH! Welcome Robingj and Gibsoch. Hope you find this board as helpful as the rest of us have.
I have been on Savella for Two weeks now. I have horrible mood swifts. I am a compete bitch and very angry one minute and crying the next. I find I don't want to be around anyone including the people I love the most. The pain relief from my Fibromyalgia is getting so much better. Is there another medication that can combat the mood swings? Any suggestions?
I had been looking for some time to find a local 'support group' for chronic pain sufferers or some type of support and I too was amazed, seriously, at all the postings on this forum. It's amazing and reading&posting to a few different forum topics I have gained sooooo much different information and support.Ya,there are plenty of people on these forums that are pill shopping&IN MY OPINION they don't need our advice because those types are the ones that have ruined it for those of us who need real relief, not just a high??!!! The postings that ask advice on what is safe to snort, blow&shoot up,WOW,to me,that is so ballsye& some even ask advice on HOW TO snort, blow etc!!Amazing.Thank you to everyone and BeWell. PS Where can I get this chon/glu drink? Sounds like a great thing to try that's not another prescription!!!
Wow...what a great post. My Dr just prescribed Savella for me and have not started it. I tried Cymbalta for 2 days and threw up for 8 hours out of those days. I have rheumatoid arthritis, chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. The NSAIDs wrecked my liver so I try not to take anything. I take glu/chondroitin, Vit D, B-12 and calcium daily and it has really helped. My elbow pain from tendinitis is gone. Still have some hip and shoulder pain but I think after reading all these posts about Savella and Cymbalta, I really do not think I want to put my body through that. That you so much for your post of encouragement. I read so many posts on different sites where people said they had to also take meds for the nausea and meds to help them sleep. I don't want to take more meds, I am down to two RX and that's two too many. Thank you for your post of encouragement. I want to feel good, not nauseated, sweating and so anxious I can't sleep! Your post really helped me decide what to do. I hope you read this. Thank you so much!!
Did you ever try Effexor and have a bad reaction to it as well?? I did and it was bad so I am concerned about trying Savella....
The sweating never goes away, summer heat makes it worse. That is the main reason I stopped taking it. It also made me very lethargic and depressed, it messes with your head. I have found that large doses of vitamin d, valium and naproson help more because they dont have the awful side effects of savella. I
I was very sick and was on Levequin for 30 days. I am sure it was most of my cause of Fibro. I took Savella for 3 years and loved it! Of course nothing takes all the pain away but it really helped my burning and stabbing pains. I am now getting on it again. (I lost my insurance) You have to get on slow.... I mean slow! Like 2 starter packs. I have very little side affects this way. Like any medications it takes time to adjust to it. My side affects are RLS sometimes. But I back off my caffeine and if it really bothers me I take a mussel relaxer.
Savella contains the active ingredient Milnaciprin, this is an SSNRI antidepressant, that has also been shown to be effective for certain types of pain.
The various symptoms being described could be caused by this medication, the other medications your on or are stopping, or a combination of both, since some medications can cause side effects to be synergistic.
Common regular side effects can include: nausea, drowsiness, headache and anxiety.

Is there anything else I can help you with?
I was taking Savella for about 6 weeks. I had a horrible experience. I discontinued it 2 months ago and am still attempting to recover. I experienced many of the same symptoms as Jessica. I can particularly identify with the buzzing sensation & increase in anxiety and in depression. I also had the sensation throughout my body, particularly my head, as one has when the foot falls asleep. I experienced weight gain also. Pelvic pain began soon after I began taking it and continues. I am very concerned about the welfare of those taking this medication.
I myself have been on savella now for a little over 2 months. The hot flashes are horrible and gaining weight like crazy. I am having mood swings and a feeling of not being able to tell the difference between reality and my dreams......
