Anti-Inflammatory Overview

Anti-inflammatory is the property of a substance or treatment that reduces inflammation, fever or swelling. Anti-inflammatory drugs, also called anti-inflammatories, make up about half of analgesics. These drugs reduce pain by inhibiting mechanisms of inflammation, as opposed to opioids, which affect the central nervous system to block pain. Common anti-inflammatory drugs include nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), corticosteroids, antileukotrienes, and monoclonal antibodies.

Is expired Voltaren gel safe to use?

My voltaren gel expired 7/13. Is it still safe to use? ## Hello, Phyllis! How are you? It doesn't get dangerous after it expires, but it will likely no longer be effective. Liquids, gels, creams and ointments tend to degrade much faster than solid forms of medications. It would actually be best to just dispose of it and see your doctor for a new prescription. Voltaren gel is a topical NSAID that's used to treat pain and swelling. Side effects to topical use are usually limited to skin reddening and irritation. Will Expired Diclofenac Still Work

I have Diclofenac that was prescribed in late 2006 but has no expiry date. Is it still safe to use? ## Hello, Bob! How are you? I'm not sure how your country handles drug laws and expiration dates, so I can only provide you with information that I am familiar with from the U.S. FDA. From their efficacy studies, when left in the original factory sealed containers, it was found to retain full efficacy for 3 years, but once that container was opened and it was dispensed in a pharmacy/chemist's container that exposes it to the elements that cause degradation, that efficacy could only be guaranteed for one year. Should Diclofenac Sod 75mg be discontinued before surgery?

I' having surgery and I don't know if I should stop taking this before hand. Could this drug cause bleeding? ## Have you asked your doctor or pharmacist? Diclofenac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory and they can have some blood thinning effect, so it might be necessary to stop taking it, before surgery. They could also be concern about it interacting with other medications you may be given, during or after the surgery. ## how far in advance to the surgery sho stop taking it? ## I heard 7 days from my surgeon.

Rumoquin N F Where Can I Buy It

I just found Rumoquin NF at Mexipharmacy. They don't seem to take credit cards, but offer other ways to buy. I've been taking Arthrotec 75 for about 14 years for arthritis all over my body. My pain seems to respond favorably to diclofenac and Arthrotec 75 contains misprostol as well, a stomach protectant. However, I ran out when last in Mexico and was sold Rumoquin NF at a farmacia. The diclofenac worked its wonders, but the additional ingredients, dexamethasone and methocarbamol, seem to potentiate the relief. Rumoquin NF is also orders of magnitude cheaper and I generally need take only one per day. Blue Oval Naproxen

I bought a bottle of naproxen generic and the pills are different than the real naproxen that I was using. Could you help identify them? What does "take 3 tablets daily" mean

What does it mean to take three tablets daily? Do I take three at once or at three separate times a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner)? ## If all it says is to take "3 tablets daily" you should take them all at once, unless otherwise noted. Especially prednisone. Otherwise it would say "take 1 tablet 3 times a day (tid)", or "1 tablet up to 3 tablets daily as needed (prn)". ## Hi Sharlene, It depends if the more detailed instructions say "3 tablets once per day" or "1 tablet 3 times per day". If they indicate something more like one tablet at a time (3 times per day), this generally indicates 1 tablet every 8 hours (unless otherwise noted). Prednisone and Cyclobenzaprine

I have arthritis in my hips and pulled a back muscle at work. Walking is hard to do. Can I take Prednisone and Cyclobenzaprine together? ## You can, as long as your doctor has told you to take them both. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia, nervousness, and weight changes. Are you on any other medications? What are the dosages and how long will you be taking them? ## Can I take 4mg Prednisone with 10mg of Cyclobenzaprine at night? I fell down steps and hurt my back. ## I took Prednisone at about 6am today and took Cyclobenzaprine at 10pm. Hopefully there's not a problem with the timeframe between those two doses, right?
