Butesin Picrate - compounding
Hello. I'm from Australia and had been sorry to learn that Butesin Picrate cream was removed from commercial sale. My daughter (a registered pharmacist with Pharmaceutical Compounding exp.) recently suffered burns while she was home cooking: I said my "often quoted regret" about the cream's discontinuation. We have - between us - located the original (1%) pharmaceutical compounding instructions for it and provided it's not large scale manufacture I can arrange to put you in touch with the compounding pharmacy - only in limited supply for individuals though (like many of us who grew up with this cream in our mothers' first aid boxes!). One ingredient (apparently) had cancer-causing discussions at scientific circles... and that's part of the PR disaster that pr...

Tribedoce DX Injection
Besides the DX, the box I have says “lidocaina” which I am assuming is Lidocaine, a pain relief drug. My wife wants to use this for hip pain from hip displacia but I just want to make sure that there will be no harmful side effect. Seeing that this also had a corticosteroid in it, Dexamethasone, I am inclined to NOT administer it to her because that is a class of drugs that can have serious side effects if used incorrectly or by the wrong person. ## All medications carry the risk of causing side effects, so yes, there may be dangers, and it should only be administered with a doctors approval. The FDA warns that it may cause administration site reactions, redness, pain, headache, nausea, weight changes, mood changes, and skin reactions. How is she doing? Did you try it? Is sh...

How come I can't find Viractin cold Sore treatment in any drug store?
Viractin Cold Sore Treatment was the BEST. I have suffered with coldsores for years. This was the best treatment I have come acrossed. A small amount of this product and no more coldsore. I haven't found an answer to my question yet. Is Viractin still available over counter or do I need a prescription for it? ## I am sorry, but Viractin has been discontinued by the manufacturer. It contained the active ingredient Tetracaine, which was a topical anesthetic, so it really did nothing to shorten the duration of a cold sore, though the moisturizing effects of it could help keep them from drying out and cracking and bleeding. You may want to try a different over the counter product, such as Abreva, which contains Docosanol, it is an antiviral, which can shorten the duration of a cold sore...

Ketamine for Depression?
It was recommended by the members of a separate thread that one be started that directly relates to ketamine and it's use to treat depression. If anyone besides myself would like to discuss it's use as a treatment for depression, feel free to post your questions, answers and experiences here. This thread is an offshoot of a related one that discussed a treatment of Scopolamine for depression. ## thanks michael- yes, i am very interested in hearing about your experience so far with ketamine. both the iv application and the nasal route. i'm not too keen on the nasal route, but like i said, i will try that first due to cost. so, how you feeling? john ## Thanks for setting up this Discussion Michael! I hope we can share experiences here to help everyone. The cost of getting reli...

Viractin cold sore gel
Why is Viractin so hard to find? Is it being discontinued and if so, why? I've used it for years in conjunction with Abreva for cold sores and I love it but it keeps getting harder to buy and I don't understand why when it's such a great product! ## Viractin contains the active ingredient Tetracaine, which is a local anesthetic used to numb the area, topically. I'm not finding any specific information, but it appears that the company that makes it might have discontinued it. It's made by Medibrands and they no longer list any information about it on their site and most online sites that listed it for sale say it is currently out of stock. I don't know which one might be available in your area, but many products use a similar ingredient called Benzocaine, so you m...
