My son had a terrible experience on wyvance. He has phyciatic systems to include halluciations. The doctor took him off the drup cold turkey and Ihe seems to be having withdrawal systems? Is that normal?
I just wanted to share what my son who is 7 is going through right now on his second month of Vyvance (he is on 30 mg) right now and I am not sure if what I am seeing is bad withdrawal effects in the afternoon but it sounds like it is after reading others' comments. He has been very hostile and aggressive lately since he has been on this drug and has been hurting his sister on purpose, screaming, yelling, throwing things and yesterday he threatened to kill me and was trying to hurt me! I had reported hostility and aggression already on 20 mg last month to pediatrician and she decided to up the dose to 30 mg to see how he does but she also said if these side effects persist to meet with her again...so I am trying to give it a good try but it's no fun in the meantime! He is doing well with it during the day though...mellow, compliant, a little anxious at times but not too bad...What do you all think?! THis is all very new to me and tough :(
Wow. There seems to be some very weak individuals on here. I stopped Vyvanse cold turkey. I was taking 70mg daily for over 5 months. Yes, I did sleep a lot. But I did not have any "with drawls" as some of you state. Mind over matter people.
Whoever told you there are no wd symptoms is dead wrong.im making the move right now to be off if vyvance and I am a pretty miserable
My son is 16 and he has been taking vyvanse for 8 or 9 months. He brought his grades up from Cs and Bs to almost all As. He is much kinder in the morning hours and alittle iritable during afternoon right after lunch but never much more than a smart comment or 2 which might just be normal for a teenager. He has specificly told me that he focuses better and everything is more intresting to him expecialy math. Side effects is not eating much more than a bag of chips for lunch but eats like a king after sports practice. I don't think this drug should be tooken off the market because of the widespread of good things it is doing for most patients. If your child differs of course stop using it is probably best.
I took Vyvanse for probably 5 months. I lost weight (because no appetite) and just look sick. people ask "are you ok? are you sick?" and I realized it just wasn't worth it for the bit of focus I had. I may have had better focus but because I didn't have proper nutrition, other things were off. I went off of it cold turkey. I asked the doc first and she said it is fine to go off of it and I specifically asked if I had to wean off of it slowly and she said "no, not with that drug". I am really tired all the time and have no interest in much of anything. It has been just over a week I think. How long will it take before this stuff is out of my system? or is it out and I am dealing with something else? thanks for any input. I have to get some work(and life) accomplished!
I agree my son who is 8 years old has been on vyvanse for a little over 2 months now and i am taking him off of it as of today he is always sad and says he is the dumbest kid in his class this wasn't like him before the meds he was on adderall before vyvanse he is still behind on learning on school so not giving it to him anymore
My daughter just got off the Vyvanse cold turkey. I hope she does okay. She was on Aderall and her doctor switched her to Vyvanse because of the side effects. These drugs should be taken off the market. Her whole personality changed.....mean, irritable. She got extremely parnoid, had hallucinations, couldn't make a good decision. She is now going through jobs...can't keep them. This is not like her...very meticulous, hard worker, perfectionist. She started pushing herself away from family and friends. Her whole personality has changed in the last year or two. These drugs should be taken off the market.....bad stuff!
Adding my two bits to the pot, as I'm currently experiencing symptoms I'd rather not on Vyvanse.
Rapid heart rate, over 130 bpm. I also feel quite queasy and jittery. It's very uncomfortable, and if I wasn't aware that the Vyvanse was causing this, it might have made me a bit scared.
I agree with J lo's post. This medicine helps me stay focused while studying and when I need to pay close attention. I take a break on the weekends, and maybe once during the week. It's best to eat a good protein breakfast before taking this medication and small healthy snacks throughout the day even if you don't feel hungry. One can't depend on any kind of medicine to make everything smooth and easy. This prescription is meant to help, not cure.
Honestly, I have to agree with "Noshyt". If you are not truly ADD this medicine will probably effect you differently. I've struggled with ADD most of my life. Growing up all that was available was Ritalin & at that time there wasn't enough info to go on & for me, I wasn't hyper I just needed focus. My twin sister (also ADD) took Adderall & she talked about how she could feel the time release & that even though she felt focused she rapidly lost weight & could never sleep. She then was told by her Dr (we had the same one) about Vyvance & felt she was a good fit... & she was! So, she told me about it so I spoke with our dr & started taking it. I've got more issues with my focus than my twin so I am on 60 mg & she's on 50mg. I have had great results & I usually don't take it on the weekends & have even been off of it for over a week while on vacation. I've been able to nap & I did experience some weight loss at first, I've got my appetite back & I feel like I am a better wife, mother & over all feel better about myself. ADD has really hurt my self esteem over the years. I wish I had this back then b/c I know I would have been a much better student. If my kids have to be on something I am opened to it. It may not be Vyvance but I want them to have a fighting chance. My brain does not produce what I need for focus & Vyvance does that for me. I've been on it for over 2 years & I am really happy. I know not everyones journey is the same but this is mine & I want you to know that Vyvance is not bed for everyone & if you take it for ADD, you have ADD & you don't abuse it, I think it is a good medicine.
I have a loved one that's been on this fir 3yrs between 120-140 mg a day. He hasn't been on them now for a little over a month. Bad withdrawals. Ge doesn't think he's addicted. He likes the meds. Any suggestions for a reality check?
I have been on and off of vyvanse since 2009 because the benefits would stop working after a few months. They've switched me to many different types of ADHD meds (minus ones known for addiction because of my past). I was put back on it in November with Prozac and Lamictal. I was having horrific dreams, paranoia, insomnia, lack of emotion, and extreme wait loss, so they took me off of Prozac immediately (December) since I had previously been on the other two without problems. All of those side effects went away, but I was left with one I wasn't aware of as a side effect since I was so paranoid and anxious all of the time- my thoughts instead of being everywhere seemed to be incomprehensible. I felt like my thoughts were in some langauge I don't know, making it difficult for me to talk, write, or concentrate. They rose it to 70mg and with only change for the worse, they took me off Lamictal. Still having the problems, I have to go cold turkey from the 70mg of Vyvance, too. Idk what to do since I am a 16 year old girl suffering from ADHD, Bipolar, and Anxiety/Panic Disorder and I have to simultaneously give my all in my gifted high school, help my family move back into my old house which was rebuilt from being burned down with a complete loss, help pay for bills while my dad is looking for a job, watch and be a good role model for my three younger siblings, help my mom cope with her mental disabilities, keep up with my extracurricular activities, and help volunteer for community hours. I have no time to deal with side effects, but I don't have time to be hospitalized again or let all the people who need me down by hurting myself or committing suicide.. Plus I'm trying to get into a good music college so I can't have my creativity ruined. I don't know what to do or how going of 70mg of vyvanse will affect me personally- and I just hope the side effects will go away or I will be kicked out of my school and be unable to support myself and my family, let alone be able to do what I love...
I agree with what "nick70mg" said. Great to lose of interest in life but still have internal energy. Two days off of 60 mg after a year and I'm barely making it. I want to sleep all day, eat everything, my head feels fuzzy and my eyes don't feel in full focus.
How many days does it take to feel normal again?
No one quit cold turkey it will screw you up. I quit taking it after a few months and I had panic attack hallucinations and got really sick. Been off of it for 4 months and I still have terrible panic attacks:(
Hey Penelope, you really have nothing to worry about. If you have only been on vyvanse for 3 days you should not have withdrawls. It may take a day or 2 for you to feel perfectly normal again, but as far as withdrawls go, you will be fine. The main thing is that you do stop taking it now before your body and mind do become dependant on the drug. This can happen very fast with vyvanse, but not on 3 days. If you decide to stay on it for a few more days you probably will have withdrawls after stopping. You are in a great position right now to drop this drug and move on with your life.
There are clinics and mental hospitals that do partial outpatient programs that can help with the withdrawal. I know, mental hopsital has such a stigma to it; but they help and are just like going to a hospital if you are sick. No one should go through a withdrawal for more than a few days wihtout seeking psychiatric help- i am taking vyvanse for three days now and want to stop it, mainly because I am scared to death to become addicted or should i say the aftermath with the withdrawal- so you think i will have it after this short of time? I was prescribed it for adhd and anxietey (I know weird)- i love the clarity but not the jitteriness and the lack of sleep- and oh yeah- it's an anphetamine. ssri's are proven to work for adhd as well- less side effects- no way comparable to doing meth!
Oh man! Sounds like too many people have been thru the ringer with a Dr. Prescribeaway. When I was seven I was given a battery of tests by a team of docs: psychiatrists, neurologists, child psychologist etc. After they completed the educational and psychological testing, they diagnosed me with ADD, (ironically enough they couldnt complete the testing cuz i couldnt concentrate-hah). Anyway it was ONLY after a comprehensive testing by several minds that I was given a neurologist who then prescribed me ritalin which saved my life! After that I was given testing again when I was around 12 then again at 18. I guess that's what we do in nyc...Point is: I highly reccomend that you get at least a second option and get your child some educational and psychological testing before giving them medication. That way, there will be less egregious medicating and overmedicating. Plus, check out educational professionals and schools that work with your child. Verbal or un-timed testing, notetakers or tape recorders for class time, and after-school tutors can make a HUGE difference. Maybe you can check out these options before taking the step to medication. When people go on amphetamines for ADD and it makes them high and speedy, they don't have ADD. In the mind of a person w add the electrical connection between synapses has trouble making it from one synapse to the other. The idea is the speediness of an amphetamine funnels the impulse from synapse A to synapse B. However, in the mind of a non-ADD individual, they already make that connection if you add speed to it, that just speeds it up. Make sense? That's what i mean about getting yr kid properly tested, as NOshyt points out-there are always exceptions to the rule and people react differently-but on the whole, this is the general idea. Noshyt, hope you don't take offense to me citing your good observation. >> Anyway, I really hope someone reads this<< bcse I've been thru highschool and college with these aids and it has made life so much better. Please, please, someone take this advice! fingers crossed. Otherwise-good luck!!!
I have been through these same things bro, vyvanse is a terrible drug. The feelings you are experiencing now are most likely withdrawl symptoms and should get less intense each day you stay of it. The panic attack is probably a warning that vyvanse is not for you. I do feel you should at least call your Dr. and explain what is happening to you, but DO NOT let him tell you all you need is a different dose. If the Drs. do not get told about all of the problems this drug is causing, they will continue to give it out like candy. Go back through the history of this site and read all of the problems I had with vyvanse. It has been a long hard road to recover for me, but I have overcome this with the help of God, my family, and determination to not be controlled by this drug anymore. You can do it my brother, this is your chance to leave it behind and not look back.
My psychiatrist prescribed me Vyvanse less than a year ago, and since then I would only take it for situations where I really felt I needed to focus (such as tests, portfolio reviews and presentations) because it caused anxiety, sleeplessness and loss of appetite, and up until lately I've had no issues besides those. But a couple days ago, while driving back from a portfolio review, I started to feel a buzzing/tingling sensation in my hands and legs, and it quickly turned into numbness and then I couldn't move my hands AT ALL! My mom pulled over and called an ambulance, where they took my pulse and told me I had had a panic attack. I regained feeling and control in my hands/legs, but since then I haven't felt the same. I've been shakey, anxious and I have this headache in the back of my head by my neck that feels like an overheated computer. I can't see a doctor because my mom won't take me, and I'm really worried this may worsen or be an underlaying symptom of something more critical. Has anyone else suffered these same symptoms? HELP!
I shouldn't have typed that, I am sorry!
