What Not To Say During Suboxone Appt (Page 8)

Updated

My boyfriend has battled with heroin addiction for at least 2 years now. He was prescribed to before, but couldn't afford the maintenance program and ended up banging heroin again. He went back to his doctor to get a script for suboxone again last week, and the doctor wouldn't prescribe it to him. I found another dr who can prescribe suboxone nearby, and want to make sure he gets a script because he will die if he doesn't quit using. Does anyone know any reasons why a dr wouldn't prescribe suboxone?
Thanks.

WANT TO TELL YOU ALL SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR "GREAT SUB FROM THE OTHER SIDE. I HAD A DRUG PROBLEM LIKE YOU ALL AND GOT CLEAN IN 1988 AND STAYED CLEAN, SUB IS HEROIN ON STEROIDS AND IT MAKES A PERSON NUMB, THEIR EMOTIONS TOO. MY FAMILY WAS RIPPED APART BECAUSE OF THE GREAT SUB MY SON AN ADDICT ON AND OFF WHO SHOT ANYTHING TO GET HIS OPIATE HIGH JUST ROBBED ME. NEVER DID HE DO ANYTHING LIKE THAT AND ITS NOT AN ADDICTION HE IS ON SUBS FOR 3 YEARS NOW, WHERE THE HELL IS THE CUT OFF ON THIS LEGAL HEROIN? AT LEAST WITH METHADONE I WAS ON IT DOESN'T STOP YOUR FEELINGS WELL THIS DOES THAT'S WHY IT WORKS IT STOPS YOU FROM FEELING ANY F==N THING INCLUDING THE LOVE YOU HAD FOR YOUR FAMILY FOR 40 YEARS. NO JOKE THIS IS A SERIOUS DRUG AND THE DEA HAD BETTER TAKE A BETTER LOOK AT WHAT IT REALLY DOES. IT DOES NOT RELIEVE PAIN IT TAKES ALL FEELINGS OF ANY SORT AWAY THAT'S WHATS WORKING IN ALL OF YOU, HAVE YOU NOTICED A CHANGED IN YOUR FAMILY'S RELATIONSHIP WITH YOU? MAYBE SOME DON'T HAVE THIS REACTION BUT I KNOW MANY THAT DO AND IN THAT CASE GOOD OLD METHADONE IF YOUR GONNA CONTINUE TO USE IS THE ANSWER. YOUR NOT CLEAN YOU ARE SUBSTITUTING ONE FOR THE OTHER YOU STILL JUNKIES ON LEGAL PRESCRIPTIONS RIPPING YOUR FAMILIES APART AND I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE GO TO SOME NARANON MEETINGS YOU WILL HEAR IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN FROM MOTHERS, FATHERS, HUSBANDS WIVES AND CHILDREN, YOU BECOME ZOMBIES TO THIS CRAP AND THAT'S WHAT IT IS CRAP. YOU WILL FIND OUT WHEN YOU ARE COMPLETELY BURNT FROM IT AND UNABLE TO HAVE SEX CAUSE THAT IS A FEELING THAT WILL EVENTUALLY LEAVE TOO. SOME ADVISE GET CLEAN THE RIGHT WAY, 1/9/88 IF I COULD DO IT SO CAN YOU.

I myself once was a dope addict. I know have switched to opiates. From what I know heroin addiction would be treated with methadone and suboxone is used to treat opiate addiction. Has he tried methadone or know? this would be his best option for sure!! So that is where I would start! The are many clinics some good some not so good... He needs to find the write one for him! Where he will feel comfortable talking..... not the so called clinics that depreciate your value as a person! I wish him all the luck in the world but remember if he is not ready it will not work! He needs his will to live and the want for a better life Good luck in the best way! LauraAnne

If a true opinion is to be given, it should come from multiple sources: I recommend an education in the field of addiction ONLY when combined with YEARS of experience with HUNDREDS of people affected by addiction. To share such strong opinions from less than this WILL HURT OTHER PEOPLE who are trying to get well.

Anyone with the experience I mention will agree that no medication or drug is the best way to be "clean". However, suboxone and other buprenorphine containing medications are light years better than methadone in the treatment of opiate dependency. I have the credentials to support this statement. Avoid methadone if at all possible, avoid suboxone if you can....lastly, don't try and be in recovery without some help from other people WHO KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. Peace.

Alice,

I hope you found the strength to get away from that man that got you mixed up with that stuff and got your daughter in a safe place now.

Drugs are not the answer...I have been prescribed Suboxone for pain management after suffering two auto accidents that herniated my discs, broke my tailbone, gave me bone spurs and degenerative disc disease. I got off it twice and both time the pain in my cervical spine was so intense I got back on it. I had one cervical surgery, but I don't want to have them cut me open again, so I take this medication to mask the pain. I thank God that I have never been an addict, smoked or drank, and I am scared to death to even smoke cannabis.

Take care of yourself and get the help you need - stay away from those things that numb your body and mind - seek God and prayer and His will for your life! When we do the right thing life seems so much better because God is with us and He loves us and wants us to be blessed. Trust in God!

I have and will continue to pray for your recovery and safety!!

I was on Oxycontin for 10 years legally prescribed by my Primary Care Doctor. I was started on 10mg 2x day to 80mg 3x day + percoset for break thru pain. I have had 5 spinal surgeries and other surgeries and live with chronic pain. I never went looking for drugs or doctor shopped. With the doses I was taking I was still in pain and isolated myself from family and friends. I would be in pain and run out early. I would by other narcotics from "friends." After a suicide attempt and a non-concented stay in the cracker factory. I started on Suboxone. It was the best thing I ever did! I found a compassionate doctor and told him THE TRUTH! The beginning was like jumping thru hoops. No meds for 24 hours. I went to his office for the 1st dose. Drug test 1st. Went back in a week. Then in another week. Then 2 week appointment. I got called in after 1 week for surprise drug test. Saw following week. Then every 2 weeks for 2 months. Drug test every time I walk thru the door. Now I see him every month. I am 80% pain free compared to 30-40% on Oxycontin. I can't believe how much of my life I was missing! I am doing so much more. The people who see me now comment how "high" I always was. I never felt high! I felt PAIN!!! Yeah, I still need my wheelchair for long distances, walk with a cane and still have pain. Pain that at time makes me cry. But, I have a much happier LIFE. I HAVE A LIFE! It is so worth it. For me, my spouse + kids. BE HONEST!!! WHEN ON OPIATES YOUR FEELINGS ARE NUMB! I HAVE CRIED HYSTERICALLY IN HIS OFFICE. HE SAID THAT SHOWED HIM...I WAS DOING BETTER. Most doctors want proof you are seeing a therapist.

After reading MANY posts, yours was the one that 'fit' my situation so closely. It was going great until the hard-to-find Dr dropped me because I had to have a spinal fusion surgery; which called.for a few months of using pain meds during a very painful recovery. He 'fired' me for it bUT I told him. everything ahead oF time!
I know 2015 brought Dr's to be closely monitored or they can lose liscense from writing narcotics -which I understand.
He wont take me back and i was a good patient w a great relationship w him. He's also a great psychiatrist.
He knew that I MUST take xanax. PTSD.
He had me.on sub strips, soma and xanax with no problem. Medicaid isn't accepted there so I paid $250/month. Worth it to end the 20+ years of narcotics after back injuries. Which narcotics at a high dose even, no longer really help anyway and is surely killing kidneys, liver, etc.
That's my basic history. Oh, I was his patient for about 5 or 6 months. Since he won't take me back (don't understand that), it's going to be very hard finding a sub Dr who.will.allow me subs and xanax. No longer want soma.
I.live in the NE ARK area (the crotch of.the US!) So it's far n few to find these drs much less ones allowing xanax. You can't call the offices and straight out ask if the Dr.there will.write for both things! .Does.ANYONE have ANY suggestions on how to approach this when I speak with the Dr (IF possible) probably have to speak with staff. Thanks for reading.

when you plan to start saboxone. you need to cut your shot back for 2 or 3 days. Your still getting well but stop getting high. then try to go with out for 2 days if you can. Dope is mental as well. Then take the saboxone. I have a hard time every time I get clean

You only have to be drug free for 24 hours for sub to work. It literally kicks in within 5mins. What are you worried about? It will stop the cravings that's what it was made for. Tricks the receptors and binds to them.

Why would you suggest needing Xrays at a suboxone clinic? If it were a different type of medical provider I may agree, but those physicians treat addictions so those patients can keep those details off the record. That's the bright side of the therapy.

Hi,Alicia, Thank you for your helpful post. We are trying to find as low a cost as possible suboxone doctor in Sacramento, and would appreciate any help or other suggestions you might have. Our granddaughter has become heroin addicted; is now coming out of a residential facility, and she and we are afraid of her cravings and other feelings that may lead to a relapse.

That was someone posting in 2008 when they all flew to Florida to get tons of unique needed scripts because the Dr's were prescribing them to everyone who really didn't need them lol

They need a special license in order to prescribe suboxone and training.

I have a question...Due to a job loss I am now on Medi-cal and without "real" insurance. The state put me under LA Care Anthem Blue Cross, but they will not cover my medications, not even Cymbalta or Celebrex. I made an appointment with the doctor's office the state sent me to, and when I told her about my needing Suboxone she told me that I would have to pay $300 for my first appointment, and the medical clinic would complete a TAR asking Medi-cal to cover my medicine. She said that each subsequent visit is going to be $75, but when I spoke with LA Care and asked them why I would be charged by the doctor's office they told me that I should not be paying anything. Is this a way for these doctors to make money? I don't feel right about this. I don't have a job or any income, but they are willing to allow me to use my credit card to pay for the visits. I have a prescribe that still have refills, but they didn't fill it today because it is not covered, and I didn't get the message in time to call the Costco pharmacy to find out how much it would be if I paid cash. I figure it would be a lot more than $300. Does anyone know how this works, or if this is legitimate or not? Is there a better way to deal with this? Any advice would be helpful.

You have to be Licensed to to Rx suboxone...And the doctor can only see a certain number suboxone patients so that in itself has alot of doctors w they're hands full
Secondly, why would you NOT tell your doctor your taking methadone????? The two main drugs suboxone had in mind (well, all opiates really) but mostly heroin and methadone.
