What Not To Say During Suboxone Appt (Page 6)
UpdatedMy boyfriend has battled with heroin addiction for at least 2 years now. He was prescribed to before, but couldn't afford the maintenance program and ended up banging heroin again. He went back to his doctor to get a script for suboxone again last week, and the doctor wouldn't prescribe it to him. I found another dr who can prescribe suboxone nearby, and want to make sure he gets a script because he will die if he doesn't quit using. Does anyone know any reasons why a dr wouldn't prescribe suboxone? Thanks.
Illustratedgirl, I think you should try the suboxone, if you are able to. I believe most time people want subutex because you can abuse it, like all the other opiods we all have taken not according to instruction, but according to how much we wanted. Suboxone, you can't really shoot or snort or anything, just take as directed is the most effective way. As JM Ala said, it works same on day 366 as it did on day 1, basically. Good luck! I have known people in several different areas who have found this through various clinics and with or without insurance, but I'm not sure how they did it. I have insurance. My first doctor I did not like, but I kept with him for the Suboxone until I found another one certified in addiction studies or whatever they call the extra course they have to take. This guy is a family practice guy + addiction, I don't know...how to describe it, he just is a human being who actually talks, smiles, and listens to other human beings. I really think there should be a statue of him somewhere, for his kindness. I am not sure if the subox will help you with your pain; as others have mentioned, if you have the addiction in check, maybe just actual non-opiates may work to alleviate pain? Ibuprofen and the like. I know this sounds insane to heroin addicts, but the suboxone takes care of that part, binding with the same receptors in your nerve cells as the opiates used to do, but I do not believe it is a pain reliever, as such. Keep trying. Best of luck.
I am happy to hear that you are doing well, Alice.
I think Suboxone could work for you. It has been working for me. I commented a year or so ago, I was going through a hard time. I went to the new doctor and he said, what? You ran out? You are not on a high dose, I'll just increase it to 1 1/2 sublingual strips (I so prefer those over pills) per day instead of 1. Problem solved! The first time it was hard to get the prescription filled but the doctor helped me! I never ran out again, and it's been a year since then.
Best of luck to you. I wish all best to you and your children. Our lives are so short, right? And children are the gift from the future; they go where we cannot go, not even in our dreams, Gibran said, but we are also good, who sent them flying on their way. Let's treat all of us with love and respect.
You are very wrong on your statement. I will share me story with you to explain. I am a 5 year opiate addict. 5 years ago I unfortunately had a stroke at the age of 23. The months to follow were terrible for me. The stroke left me with migraines that made me want to die. After trying multiple medications the doctor prescribed me to hydrocodone. At this point I was in pain at least 4 days a week so as you can imagine I was taking the medicine quite a bit. This went on for some time until I needed more for it to work for me. Before I knew it I was taking 4 5mg vicodins just to knock the headache. I was fully hooked a year in. The migraines have now subsided but the addiction is still there. I am in the process of getting into a suboxone program because this has ruined my life. It was not my choice to start this medicine it was my doctors. And what I wouldnt give to go back and never start. So please dont judge before you know a persons circumstances.
You are so right. Often times we are not told that after a month of taking just vicodin, we cannot stop. The w/d symptoms are an illness in itself. No one should judge for sure. Heh, suboxone will cure your hydrocodone addiction - trust me
wow that is a pretty messed up story. god bless you and your kids and I hope you were able to get on suboxone. I been on it for a while and its helped me tremendously. hoping and praying it does the same for you
Amen to that
I need to get back on subs I was doing great then I went to jail for child support, got out and stayed on ocs. It seems that it takes two to three weeks to get in to a sub Dr. I can't tolerate the withdraws and have no insurance. Is there anyway to get a next day appt with a sub Dr? If I wait three weeks I might as well quit, but I can't go cold turkey and I just lost my opiate connection. I'm very scared about tomorrow. Cold turkey from snorting h, and chewing 80 mgs of ocs a day for two months without a day off, I'm afraid I'll stop breathing. I go into panic attacks when I go cold turkey. Is there anything I can say or do to get in to a sub Dr tomorrow or the next day?
You can always go to an ER, they are (by LAW) allowed to give a 3 day supply of Suboxone. They might try to say they can't...but they CAN..it's fact!! If you get to the point where you have to argue with them about what they can prescribe though, chances are you won't get sub anyway...so it's prolly a moot point to try and reason with an ER doc. They have this thing about a junkie telling them that they don't know what they are talking about, and get all uppidy about it if you try to say they are wrong -- for some reason, most doctors are above that "being wrong" crap.
Other than ER...look on the naabt website for docs in your area..start calling and don't stop until you find one. A little known fact, you can also call psychiatrists, though many don't specialize in addiction medicine, most are licensed to write Suboxone...but you can call and see...
I wouldn't quit until you find one, because if you wait, you sure aren't gonna feel like calling around later once the withdrawals hit...
Been do I g 360 mg of Oyt for 3years. Quit 120mg on my own. Going to get h e l.p. with sub for remainder.... nothing but good thoughts quitting 120 on my own was hard...
If you let me know where you are located, I can help you find doctor that will see you. I think Suboxone is a great medication. We never meant for the very pills our doctor's precribed us to make us sick when we no longer have. It has to be a joint issue - not just the "users". So much stigma and not enough help.
What doctor??
You need to find a different doc that take your insurance or if you pay by cash.once you loose a doc they can not take you back for think a year also think same goes for all the docs in that treatment center there's usually 3 to a center/office .Pretty much you have to find a new treatment center cuz you got banned from that treatment center
There is no period of time that a doctor can't take you back. They can throw you out this month, and take you back in two months if they want. There's no year requirement, its solely the doctor's discretion. And it depends on how the doctors inside the same clinic are licensed for Suboxone. If each one has their own license, then they can accept whoever they want if they're running a joint clinic where they are equal partners. On the other hand, if the head doctor/owner dismisses you, and says the others can't treat you either, then you won't be able to see any of them inside that building.
They gave me a shot of 8 mls but that was it
Im sry that happened.... drug addiction is hard, opioid dependancy is terrible, just take one thing to heart, it will work if you let/want it to. Do it for your children, suboxone saves lives... hope no-one goes throuh what you did, not every guy is a pedophile though, there is always gonna be bad people who are selfish, drug abuse is not the answer you have a good heart, best of luck....
Hi. Ive never posted openly about my addiction but reading others stories help me realize i am not alone on so many levels. I just want to be myself again but w the anxiety and obsessions and cravings i get everytime i even hear the word oxycodone. I hate it. I have tried suboxone and it does actually work. I don't even crave or think about scoring. I am myself! Just for a little while. I am pleading for help to escape from this hell i live in from the minute I wake up to the minute I lay my head dwn at night. So ty for sharing! Im glad im not alone. Good luck to u alll! Its def a visious battle.
Suboxone is a miracle drug for opiod addicts. It will give your life back. Opiods arent bad for you the lifestyle is catches up to you
You're very wrong...opoids are very bad for you, they were NEVER meant to be a long-term solution for pain relief. It's been widely accepted in the medical community to use them for long-term relief of pain though, which has led to where we are now, with painkillers being an epidemic of mass proportions..
is he on any type of benzodiazepine prescription, most doctors won't give suboxone if you're on a benzo and the ones that do you have to pay cash for, if you can tell me or write me back where you live I might be able to help you out and find one who will treat him as soon as possible immediately, I've been on suboxin sick she is and I haven't had a problem.
