Tussigon/hycodan 5mg For Dogs (Page 3) (Top voted first)
UpdatedMy dog needs this med every day for a collapsing trachia and I can't find it anywhere? Can you help?
I need this for my dog at a reasonable price, because he takes it every day.
go to your veterinarian. get a blood panel and maybe a chest film. Tussigon is available by veerinary prescription only. It is widely available through your veterinarian only.
I just purchased Tussigon at Publix Pharmacy so it is available for human use at this time.
I purchased ours for my yorkie at Walgreens. Vet wrote the script for both Tussigon 5 mg tablets and also I wanted to try the straight Hydrocodone elixir. Since I've had both, we haven't needed to use it. Guess that's a good thing! :-)
ill need to see if masscahusetts allows my cockerspanial of 20 years whos almost dead :( some pain releif for a while the plain aspirin causes diarhea if vicodin did for him what it did to me constipation would be great so would mild euphoria and happiness and tylenols antidepressent properties...
My suggestion would be to call your local pharmacy and ask if Hycodan tablets or Tussigon tablets are available by prescription. If they don't know what they are tell them it is a combination of hydrocodone 5mg and homatropine. If it is unavailable locally you might want to check your state law regarding mail order prescriptions of a controlled substance. There are many legitimate mail order pharmacies as well as veterinary pharmacies that you might be able to obtain the tablets from. It might take a little effort but I would guess you can get it somewhere. I had no trouble getting it where I live.
i cut a wennie , make a slit and insert pill
U can give a pill in a cut up vienna sausage that is what i do for my dog.
Vienna sausage has too many mechanical parts in it for me. I won't eat that stuff and won't give it to my dogs either. How about a small amour of Canned dog food? Something by Wellness or Canidae... taste of the wild. Not junk dog food like purina... Visit dogfoodanalysis to learn more about the nasty foods out there. Very simple, tuck the pill in some dog food and your dog should eat it no problem.
My vet just gave me a prescription fir Tussigon (5mg) to give 1/2 tab up to 2x a day for my 14 yr old toy fox terrier. He has had a horrible cough for years now & we have tried many things(sometimes going into small seizure) but he also has an enlarged heart & respiratory problems-would this be safe to give him?
Renee,
I joined the savings club and it has save me a fortune on dog meds.
my toy poodle has a trechea problem and is onhydrocod/homa at 1mg. what local pharmacy carries this
Walgreens special orders it for me. Good luck
Walgreens
Walgreens has it. Unfortunately, my little yorkie passed away 10/3/11 from collapsing trachea. :-(
She was stable in oxygen at the ER and we brought her home and have her oxygen, but the panting progressed at 3am and we lost her. I lost both of my yorkies within a year and each day is a struggle without them in our lives. For anyone that has a dog with collapsing trachea, I would ask your vet for a prescription for oxygen and find a specialty pharmacy that you can purchase it from. For my little Samie, it gave her a peaceful passing. Although I never thought she would pass away... I held the oxygen tubing under her nose as she tried to sleep. She kept her chin up and passed very peacefully. Sad.... Night.
I crush the pill in a napkin using a rolling pin, then I get yogurt put the med on it and then put agave syrup, dogs can't have honey, stir it up , then open dogs mouth and put it in.
My pharmacy here in virginia has it if you have a script.
,
You are referring to Cherratussin? that contains codeine not Hydrocodone
Fred, has your dogs heart been checked. My Sadie coughed up phlegm and it was because she had fluid in her lungs and had congestive heart failure. The vet prescribed lasix.
Also to anyone else needing tussigon, Walgreens pharmacy carries it. Of not in stock, they will order it. Also Walgreens offers a "prescription pet plan" for $20 yearly membership. You save a lot of money on any meds for your pets. This is specifically heart meds, kidney meds, cough meds. I've have purchased benazepril, tussigon and lasix from walgreens for a lot less than what vets charge. As well as OTC chloraphamine for my pets allergies.
My 14 year old beagle has the same thing, for years, drove us crazy. Her lungs are a mess on X-ray. The thing that finally worked for her was theophyline and tussigon together. Neither worked alone. I have her down now to theophyline in the AM and tussigon in the PM. She coughs now only sometimes. However, there is another possibility. She just had surgery and is on for pain. We haven't given her the theophyline or tussigon and she is not coughing at all. I've read tramadol can be used for coughs. So I am going to observe this for a while. You may want to try it as an alternative. The surgeon told me I could still give her the others while she is on tramadol too. I would only do that as a desperate measure though. Hope that helps!
