I BEGAN SUFFERING FROM MENIERE'S SYNDROME IN THE 1960'S. THE SYMPTONS RANGED FROM MILD TO VERY SEVERE. IT CONTINUED FOR YEARS. A DOCTOR PRESCRIBED TRIAMTERENE HCTZ 37.5. I WOULD SAY I HAVE NOT HAD AN EPISODE FOR 10 YEARS OR MORE. SUBSEQUENT DOCTORS HAD NO COMMENT EXCEPT TO SAY IF IT WORKS KEEP TAKING IT. LET ME HAVE YOUR THOUGHTS OR SIMILAR EXPERIENCE.

I have the same situation and experience. It has worked well for me, but would love to find an alternative or better yet, solve the Menieres altogether. I don't want to continue to take TRIAMTERENE HCTZ 37.5.
The medical community has made the assumption that an imbalance in the fluids of the ear, on the sides of a membrane is the cause. The fluid on each side of this membrane of the ear should be of equal quantity. They don't really know what causes it's onset or if the "fluid balance" theory is accurate. There is no scientific verifiable evidence of why it begins, exactly what part of the body's malfunction causes it, or how to treat it. There is no cure.
Perhaps we should take a page from other "disease" advocacy groups and become organized & thus more effective in applying pressure to the health care community to work on the problem, and to raise awareness and money to help encourage more research. Where would lung cancer, heart disease, breast cancer, AIDS be without the powerful voice they developed through organizing patients, family, friends, and scientists to plead or demand action from all the entities that could help. I bet that almost everyone knows someone who suffers from Meneires, and many patients go I diagnosed for years.
Hi, Bill!
I'm not a doctor, but from what I know of medication and medical information, Meniere's can sometimes be caused by a buildup of fluid in the ear, though it isn't known why such a buildup occurs or why it doesn't seem to go away…
Thus, the reason this medication may help could be due to the HCTZ in it, Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic that's used to remove excess fluid from the body. It may have helped remove the fluid in your ears and is preventing it from building up, again.

Have you ears ever been examined?
