Wellbutrin worked for me and they actually prescribe it for weight loss as well.
After gaining 35 lbs in two months after starting my bipolar meds then another 10-15 over the next few...
I ask now!!!! I know that if I have to choose crazy over chubby I'll choose chubby but after finally losing that weight I specifically ask before each med change about the weight gain and sexual side effects.
I have just started taking Pretique (50 mg). I know that each has different reactions to various antidepressant drugs, so I was wondering what is the most common side effect and how severe could it get. I am also bipolar I.
hi all ive read a few post regarding prestique. i was put on prestique 2 months ago after trying several different antidepressants. i one 100 mg in the morning. i have had the side effects like nausea and mild headaches and constipation. i have a great GP and phychiatrist. they have said to eat with the prestique and drink plenty of water and the side effects should subside but could take a while. i have vivid way out there dreams that are horrible but some a good. If you are taking sleeping tablet could be what is causing the bad dreams. I am not a doctor but i would suggest that if you are not happy wih your GP find another one and ask to see a phsychiatrist because they are the best to help with mental conditions.
Cant continue to read all these mixed emotions from ppl just like me ...Depression sucks !!! Ive been on lexapro for about 8 mnths at first ...thought it was a miracle drug ....45 lbs later all I want to to do is lay in bed n sleep or not sleep ...sex ...haaa who cares .I used to care ALOT slowly have lost all the desire ..well my husband does and if he cheated ...I probably wudnt even have the strength to slap the crap out of him ...I just want to feel "normal" thought prestique may be worth a try ....now ..not so sure
Hi,
You didn't say how old you are, unfortunately I have found that matters. Alot of antidepressants use your hormones. I have found other things can affect how you feel, exp. foods, vitamins and minerals etc. Has your doctor checked things like your vitamin d and b vitamin levels and also your sugar. Low sugar can make you feel horrible, shakey and anxiety. These things can affect you and your moods. Just things to think about. I agree with what someone else said here, if you find something that makes you feel what is normal for you stay with it, if not try something else or if you can take a two week break to get it all out of your system and then try something else. Good Luck.
I have been on Pristiq for 3 months and I LOVE it ! My friends my husband everyone around me compliment me how happy i'm. I guess everyone has diferent reaction to it!
I started pristique 2 months ago, switching it for Prozac. The pristique has helped my depression dramatically. I am diagnosed with bipolar ll with severe depression. I can get out of bed in the morning, do well at work and have had fewer sick days from being unable to get out of bed. For me, it is worth the money. Also, my personal relationships are much more stable and enjoyable.
I can understand your feelings This is possibly the worst drug I have ever taken My doctor prescribed it w/o knowing about it I am type 1 diabeticThis drug almost killed me It has taken months for me to even partially recover Be proactive and research each medicine Do not trust your doctor to know everything
i feel the same way. On prestique for 3 months I feel so tired more depressed than when I was
on effexor, more forgetful , less concentration, thinking about asking dr. to put me back on effexor.
I started antidepressants about 5 years ago because I was experiencing terrible headaches daily. The first doc I went to immediately put me on antidepressants. Some worked at first and some didn't after months of taking the pills. I switched docs and then it was suggested I suffered from TMJ. After 5 TMJ docs, thousands of dollars for silly treatments later and drinking heavily to ease the headache pain, I finally found a doc that put me on an antidepressant that relieved the headache pain. That was Lexapro. Now, 2 years later, it has worn off and I was switched to Prestique 2 days ago. What I have learned from this and reading everyone's post is obviously no one is the same! Our minds, body's and lives are far from the same so how could some say don't take this drug because it was horrible for me? I'm not coming down on anyone, but I have read many comments here about Cymbalta working great for some and for me it was a nightmare! My advice is if one doesn't work, try another and another until you get it right. I've tried many, some good and some bad. My favorite was Zyprexa (and I only suffer from depression/anxiety) but it caused severe weight gain for me. I laugh and say I was fat and happy atleast! But, they all have side effects and not one is going to come without one or two.
I write this because my 80+ year old mother was recently put on Remeron, an antidepressant, to help with sleep and weight gain. I am reading about Prestiq because I am fearful of a repeat of the symptoms when she was put on that antidepressant. Mom was on Prestiq for a couple of months and began to halucinate significantly (seeing people who wern't there). Halucinations are listed as a side effect for this drug, but they are for most antidepressants. Went off Prestiq and the symptoms went away. Thought I'd toss this in the mix for those researching Prestiq.
I took Prestiq after about 2 weeks i was standing in the shower craving something. As i stood there i figured out what it was that i wanted. I wanted Heroin. I have never done heroin. Nor will I ever. I had nightmares, and had to urinate constantly...I took myself off Prestiq and almost lost my mind. My friends quietly asked the wife alone what was the matter with me and why i looked so demonic...After it was over I told my family how I felt taking it.For Education Purposes....Never again will i take another Anti- Depressant. My mother suffered illusions while taking Prozac..I was on Pamalor when i was 15. I quit taking it too.
I think i have taken all the anti -depressants out there, Prozac awful, welbutrin ok, effexor worked ok first time but couldnt tolerate second time, I am now on Prestique since March last year, it works for "me" I think everyones chemical makeup is differnt, so the medications react to each individual in different ways. I hated going on anti depressants, the side effects sometimes are worse than the depression. If you can get through a couple of weeks you should be ok.
My husband has just been prescribed Prestique and after reading all of these horrible reviews I'm scared to even go have it filled. He's in such a dark place already and if he reacts the way most have on this site I'm afraid it will put him over the edge. Anyone have positive experiences with Prestique 50mg? I'm desperate.
Hi, I know this post was 7 years ago but I'd just like to add, for those who might read it, that if you are seratonin deficient, (or other necessary brain chemicals), and you need to be on Prozac forever, so be it. I have been on Wellbutrin for 20 years and have asked my doctor if I should try getting off the med. His reply was "don't fix it if it's not broken". I agree with him. On an additional note, I would just like to add, (as someone who has fought with depression and anxiety for a long time), that sometimes, the best thing for depression is to get out of self and into helping others. Maybe you have already done this but in case you haven't, even the most simple act of helpfulness of some kind; especially on a regular basis, (once a week for example, at a library, women's club, rest home, what ever), can break our obsession and frustration with ourselves. I hope this helps someone.
Cymbalta dried my skin, causes itching and rashes. Especially around the eyes.
After for yrs off zoloft, i am taking again,, btw had been on and off since 93. before, i noticed, no weight gain.. Since I began , over a year ago, I have noticed weight gain of 15 pounds,, However, since no anti-depressent isn't foolproof, I have to stay on..... reason... when i try to wean, this time, I get vertigo, and just a feeling of doom,,, ."depression".. what to do??? ...Have been on, Prozac, Wellbutrin, Lexapro, Paxil, Effexor, Zoloft keep me from having a meltdown,,, past 7 years, I have had many losses and 7 moves,, alone... sooooo...
Yes that is how it made me feel. I got off it and started exercising and eating clean. No alcohol or smoking. Change your circle of friends and you will feel better within 1 month.
I took Zoloft and lexipro jo neither one worked for me. I just didn't nitice a difference and had a lot of sexual dysfunction on both. Prestiq is the only thing that works for me. I have noticed that I am not as hungry (most days) and have not had any weight gain but also no weight loss!
