I have been on Pristiq now for 8 years straight. Before that, I have tried just about every med out there for depression and anxiety. Yes, I have suffered weight gain slowly over the years, but I will pay that price for having my old self back and being happy again. I didn't really have many of the horrible side effects I see written here, but I did when I took Effexor, which is in the same class, however, they all subsided after about 2 weeks. Feel free to contact me {edited for privacy}.

NEVER EVER BEEN AS TORTURED WITH A MEDICATION AS I HAVE WITH PRISTIQ!! Over the years, I've hit them all. Prozac worked for me for a number of yrs fluctuating dosages... Stable at 40mg. Divorce, finances, troubled child, aging mother...yadda yadda.....Went cold turkey on PRISTIQ just 3 days ago.....probably a stupid move...none the less.... ANYTHING was better than the horrific nightmares, isolation, temper tantrums, sweats....PANIC TREMORS experienced. Luckily, my friend was here this evening as I began to hallucinate and thought I was having a stroke. She called 911.... I was humiliated! Had trouble w/ my name. Thoughts of suicide, hopelessness, helplessness, futility surrounded my consciousness and unconsciousness like a tornado! NO MORE ANTIDEPRESSANTS FOR ME!!! Perhaps, I am just drug resistant....I don't know. There is a relatively newly FDA approved treatment for severe depression for drug resistant people called TMS. My psychiatrist has me on a waiting list for such treatment. I will attempt this treatment. If unsuccessful, than I will live with my depression and anxiety. I don't want to die ....until my time comes as a human being. We seem to have immersed ourselves into a chemically based "band-aided" society as opposed to having been taught "coping skills" to get through the turbulence of living...especially in such terror based times. This is not to say that certain drug therapies are not necessary for truly chemically imbalanced brain disorders....but the "prescription pads" have taken over the medical and therapeutic educators requirements to receive their PHD'S!!!!

Hello,
I was on Zoloft that after 3 weeks of getting accustomed to it was completely improving my life. I had to stop it though due to side effects. No sex life, had to take meds to sleep, couldn't hold a thought. I only tried Pristiq for 3 weeks a couple years ago. It was beginning to help but I thought it was making me break out real bad. I stopped it and the breaking out didn't improve so I'm trying it again now . I'm only on the second day. This is probably the 13th antidepressant I have tried. Had too many adverse reactions and side effects on all of the. Hope fully this helps!!

Re: Amber (# 20) Expand Referenced Message

I have weird dreams, other then that prestique has been the best antidepressant I have taken. I couldn't list the many, many different kinds of antidepressants I have been on the past 30 years. It keeps me functional, not crying everyday. I am a caregiver for my 41 yr.old son and 93 yr old mother. I have to be functional or their lives are at stake.

For 18 years I have been taking Prozac. Each time I have attempted to change, under the care of a physician, I've touched the bottom of depression again. During the last several years my dosage has been upped to 40 mg in the AM and 40 in the PM. I've suffered anxiety, expecially upon awakening in the morning. In the last 10 years I've been divorced from a man with passive-aggressive tendancies. I go to a well reputed psychologist, exercise and eat well. I regularly meditate and do daily journaling, etc. I'm now married to a good person. My psychologist, chiropractor and others have voiced a belief that I may well not need anti-depressants any longer. Over the last 4-6 weeks my GP has titrated the prozac down to 0 and initiated Pristique, 50 mg in the AM. Tis the season, I know, but I am currently having a melt down. I am a school administrator. I'm questioning decisions I've made (am obsessed with them), am grumpier with my spouse and finally yesterday just cried my heart out. It takes weeks to get into my GP, although I may call him. He said that if things didn't work out, I could always go back on the Prozac. My question is: I feel good about decreasing the need for so much prozac. Is going back to it the answer, or can I take more Pristique, or will it take more time (and can I afford it - will I be so wacky as to mess up my job, relationships etc. The closest good psychiatrist is miles away and, due to snow storms, it's impossible to get there right now. Will you please give me some guidance/input?

I have been on Prestiq for 3 months now. For the most part, I have been VERY happy with how I have been feeling. I actually didn't tell my husband that I started taking it for the 1st month. When i finally told him, he thought that I was on something because he felt like got his wife back. The problem that i have been having are the being tired all the time. BUT, I thought that maybe this could because of the intense, Grammy worthy, twighlight zone dreams that I have been having. My worst one was last night.....it was HORRIBLE!!! I am actually tearing up as I am typing this. has anyone had these types of dreams? Please Help!!!

I am going off of Prestique today. It has made me very irritable. I feel as though I walk around in a trace. I have severe headaches. I have never had issues with headaches before. My question is- am I going to have major withdrawal symtoms? I would like a medicine without weight gain and sexual side effects. I've tried so many others.

So how long does it take to start feeling better on Pristique. I am on day 3 and feeling nauseu adn tired. I was told that initially there could be some side effects but to just stick with it. So, when can I expect to have energy again?
Also, I read a ppost that someone was only taking it every other day because of the cost with positive results. I am curious if anyone else has used it this way as it is indicated for daily use.
