I know of a prescription drug that helped me tremendously as all the other drugs do not. A lot of doctors /Allergist have NEVER even heard of the product and some can not even find it in their drug book. But here is the information. It is called Allerx, it is two week supply in one book, Yellow for day and Blue for night. It is an awesome product but I have been taking it for 5+ years so now my body is immune to it.

Ask your doctor to prescribe you ALLERX, or look up the number for your doctor/assistant to get free samples for you. The regular does worked for me, not the DF or PE but see if you can get samples of all to see which works better.

http://www.cornerstonebiopharma.com/allerx/index.htm. The Chlorpheniramine is discontinued as well which worked for me. I take another pill now but can't take the full pill as it puts me to sleep but I take 1/2 in the am and 1/2 around 3-4PM.

Ah-Chew was excellent too but put me out as well but no longer produced because they ran out of money trying to get it out there. Good luck and let me know if you try it and if it works. I am curious to see if it works as I do not know anyone else on it.

I have also used Drixoral and have not been able to get it and just got over an upper respiratory infection. I found a site in Canada that has Drixoral. I am going to order some and see what happens. It was 12 dollars for 20 tablets but if it keeps me well and I can't get it for a year it might be worth it. Thanks for all the information.

I love Drixoral as much as anyone else, but come on! They're a business! They're out to make money, so it's really ludicrous to expect the corporate bigwigs to be more concerned with hand-holding than a bottom line. Personally, I'll bet they've just yanked the product in the States entirely and are just giving out a 2009 deadline to appease people who call. And it's their right to stop producing it if that's what they want. *shrug* Just my 2p.

I ordered Drixoral from Canada on the 20th and they were in the mail box on the 24th. Took the first one last night - the noise in my ears and head is gone, no head-ache, no upset stomach, no runny nose - Oh, life is good with Drixoral!

I have also been experiencing the same withdrawl side effects as everybody else and I am really worried about it. I think we should focus on finding out why we all have the same symptoms now (dizziness, nausea etc). Who can answer us? FDA?

The local Walgreens told me that I could get the same medicine by combining two OTC drugs they carry. One or both could be purchased in the Walgreens label. The decongestant was, of course, pseudoephedrine, but the antihistamine's name escapes me, since at the time I opted to try a different combination med. The drawbacks to this approach--extra cost in buying two different meds, the need to carry twice as many pills, and most important, the different effectiveness periods for the two pills--one was 12 or 24 hours per tablet, and the other was 4-6 hours. I figured I could lose track easily, but if nothing else works for you (and so far I'm not having great results with the alternatives), then you might try this. Both meds were OTC rather than prescription.

The information found here has been most helpful. For years I have searched for a comparable product to Drixoral and found none. It is truly the only thing that has even come close to helping my seasonal allergies. Claritin does absolutely nothing for me, while Allegra has supplied limited relief. I have been diligently searching for a week at every (literally) store in town only to find all are on back-order, but no other explanation has been given. I found the Canadian pharmacy and will give it a try. Thanks!

I received my Drixoral in the mail from a Canadian Pharmacy a couple of days ago. It does not seem to be any different except for the box. I'm so glad to get it because without Drixoral I had a headache every day. Now I don't.

I agree Tomd42. The OTC drugs that have been pushed behind the counter have seen a drop in sales. The shame of it all is that honest folks have to pay the price for an idiotic policy that does not work. The Americian government can not win a war on drugs. Hell the government is involved in the venture itself. But the impotent American officals have to do something to keep their big paychecks. Why do Americans resolve most of their issues in the idiotic way?

Well, I have joined the nauseated non-Drixoral club. I have tried to find this medicine for 6 weeks without any hope. I went online today, and just ordered 40 caplets from the Northwest Pharmacy who claims that they have it in stock without a presecription. Praise God! I pray that my relief is on the way. Sick and tired of being sick and tired. I'll write back upon receipt of the Drixoral.

Thanks for the tip on the Canada Pharmacy - just ordered some and hope they arrive soon. I have tried 8 different kinds so far and nothing has worked. One good thing about the upset stomach - I get it too when I am not taking Drixoral - so far I have lost 10 lbs - which is OK because I need to lose some weight!

Drixoral contained pseudoephedrine, which the DEA decided to regulate, ie make difficult to buy, to decrease illegal methamphetamine production. You have to go find it behind the counter, show a photo ID, and sign a log book to get a limited quantity of it. Some drug makers have reformulated to use phenylephrine, a less-effective, but unregulated substance. Drixoral and other regulated OTC sales plummeted from the difficulty invovled in buying, so it is probably no longer cost effective to make, not to mention all the legal hassles now associated with it. You can thank the DEA for killing Drixoral, Dimetapp, and many other effective OTC meds as they are solely interested in fighting their drug war, and could care less about collateral damage to cold/allergy sufferers.

I just wanna add my name & two-cents to this growing list of Allergy Sufferer's who truly miss Drixoral.
I too, called the MFG. and complained about their lack of sensitivity toward the consumer's of their product and also got to talk to Dale on the phone.(the poor guy must hate his job by now!)
Once again the answer was that the apparently, 'One-&-Only' manufacturing plant that makes Drixoral is in the process of being relocated overseas & no product will be available till sometime next year.(it's now been on back order for 5 months according to Dale) He did reassure me that the formula is not going to be changed, but I guess will just have to wait and see about that. (I rather doubt poor Dale is actually included on the list of people who Need-Too-Know that kind of info at this point).
Anyway, I've also tried just about every product out there for my runny-nose, itchy-eyes, pounding head-ache and sneezing (have had year-round allergies since I was about 5... >>cough<<50 now>>cough<<... too no avail, since using up my last Drixoral pill about a month ago.
This is becoming really depressing, years ago I use to take 1 CONTACT a day to get by, of course those of us old enough to remember, know what happened with that drug. Then I found Drixoral and began my daily regime of one pill in the morning which got me through the entire day. I'm not looking forward to having to do multiple or combinations of pills for the rest of my life!
I'm on vacation from work this week and have been pretty much house bound with the AC cranked to filter the air for the last 5 days!
Oh Well....
Just hope WE get OUR life-improving drug back ASAP.
David

Drix has been my cold and allergy choice for years. S-P wants to concentrate on Claitin which sucks. Why by their expensive product when you can buy the store brand for half the cost?

I had heard that Drixoral was getting reformulated. You would think that a big Pharma company would have the resources to keep it in production even though they are moving building. Bet this is killing their profit. The pharmacist pointed me towards Clariton - well it doesn't work. I thank you for all your suggestions.

I too have looked for Drixoral, but to no avail. My pharmacist says he can't get it either. And my Drixoral was the ONLY medication that cleared up upset stomach for me as well!!

For people suffering from Itching, burning and extremely RED EYES they just made a previously prescription only eye drop available OTC. It is KETOTIFEN Fumerate. They come in itty bitty bottles, O.37 fl oz, and cost about $12.00 per bottle. I found a cheaper generic one at Walmart for about $8.00 or $9.00 dollars. If you live in the U.S. you know about all the bad weather and that it is causing allergies to worsen, especially if you have Mold or Pollen allergies. My Eyes were so ITCHY and RED I looked like I had pink eye(s) and this stuff really works the best. Although, i would love to get a higher dosage because I have to use them more than twice a day on high 'mold/pollen count' days. I have found that the brand Refresh is the best one with Ketotifen. I don't know why since it looks like they all have the same ingredients, however, Refresh is more expensive.

I am VERY MAD that they took DRIXORAL off the market, especially with all the crazy weather changes and high allergy counts!

Also, if you suffer from DEPRESSION and ANXIETY like I do Drixoral was the only medication that didn't make me feel 'out of it' or just plain nauseated and dizzy.
The new antihistamine they are putting in the OTC allergy Medication , Phenylephrine, does absolutely nothing for me but make me more nauseated. I am taking 2 Zyrtec a day now and it seems to help but it is SO EXPENSIVE. Walgreens sometimes has them on sale, and they are cheaper when you buy a big bottle but still WAY more expensive than Drixoral. Also, BE AWARE: the Walgreens version, WAL-ZYR, has only 5 MG rather than Zyrtec's 10 MG so their generic verion is NOT cheaper.

Big Pharmacutical companies only care about money. They probably closed a plant and are going to move their operations to Mexico because the labor is cheaper. I worked in a factory for a Top 3 Automotive Company for 12 years and I know how large corporations work. Don't they realize if WE DON'T have jobs WE CAN'T buy their medication? All the top managment cares about is stuffing their wallets and getting their bonuses. It's ridiculous.

YOU MAY WANT TO ALSO CONSIDER EXTENDRYL WHICH REQUIRES AN RX FROM YOUR DOCTOR. FOR THOSE WITH CHEST ALLERGY SYMPTOMS AS WELL, YOU CAN ASK FOR EXTENDRYL-DM WHICH CONTAINS DEX FOR COUGHING/CHEST CONGESTION

I called the manufacturer. Maybe if enough of us call, they will get the hint. They don't have an email address except for the media contacts 1-908-298-4000 And of course, it's not toll free!! After several push this, push that number, I spoke to Dale. And he told me it's not available right now because they are changing the location of the production. They don't have a definite date of when it will be back, but it won't be by the end of this year. He did take my name and address, and they will send me a notice when Drixoral will be available. In the meantime, I take the store brand (CVS or Walmart) of Actifed. It has the antihistamine and the decongestant. It works just as well as Drixoral. But the only problem I have is that the actifed is a 4 to 6 hour pill. I always forget to take it at lunch time and end up with sinus headaches in the afternoon. It was so much easier taking the 12 hour Drixoral. Pop one in in the morning and I was good to go all day. I thought of Zyrtec-D, but I'm not going to pay that much. I could get 20 Drixoral for $7 at Walmart.
