I purchase my Drixoral at Costco and have ebeen told they are no longer able to get it, because it is be reformulated, is this correct
yea.right.Did anyone ever knw of a big drug company, that will stop selling a money maker like Drixoral, this time of year.I would think they wood either contract the pill out or have at lease a temp. plant in place. My wife to is sick,it is the only thing that helps her.I dont like the smell of things. We are going to get screw some how. Fogey
I remember several years ago Wal-Mart had a generic version for half the price of Drixoral but it went away after about a year. Always wondered why. I just found out today from my Sam's Club that the company quit making it. I've been taking it for over 30 years usually once a day. Only thing that works without putting me to sleep or giving me a rush. I feel more abandoned now than when they forbade Wal-Mart to sell the generic. If there is something out there that works as well, we should be told.
reading all the comments are way to familiar. I didn't realize so many people are in the same boat I am. I just spent $94 on 3 boxes from a canada pharmacy. She said they would not be able to purchase it for much longer! Why would they pull something that works!?
Relief
I experimented with different combinations and I have relief. Try zertec (10 mg) and 120-240 mg of psuedoephrine. They provide me with 24 hours of relief. I was miserable for two months after drixoral was discontinued but this combination works almost as well as drixoral.
I have taken Drixoral since it was only available by prescription many, many years ago. Drixoral is the only thing I have found to work on my allergies. A pharmasist told me to take a combination of chlorpheniramine and Pseudoephedrine and boy did I have intense insomnia. Eyes closed but wide awake all night. I can't wait to get the little green pill back. Someone really screwed this one up. They should be fired or at least suffer what we are suffering daily without the product. As they say.....if your not fired with enthusiasm, you will be.
I called the company. They told me that they are NOT changing the formula for Drixoral. They are changing distribution companies so they will not be shipping for the rest of 2008.
How has this happened? I can't get chlortimatron either...it has just disappeared from the store shelves...for no apparent reason??
Used up my last supply while in Switz. the Pharmacist in Nyon gave me something that seemed similar called VIRAL. A red and white time-released capsule. Am going to Sweden in a week and will search for something similar there. Suddenly it is no where to be found...that is bizzare!
My pharmacist told me that they reason why it was yanked from the market was b/c their is an ingredient in drixoral that is also used by drug dealers to make crystal meth. that is why in the past year, when you would go to buy it, it was behind the counter and you'd have to sign for it. They would only let you have 1 box at a time. It's not a coincedence that Canada has it and US does not...I don't know why they can't just tell us that.
I live in the southeast U.S. Here in North Carolina allergy sufferers like myself are suffering! I think it's crappy the way the manufacturer is not making a great product available. I too have problems when I don't take it. I usually take mine at night and don't have the sinus drainage problems in the morning. I too will be in the doctors office from the drainage...it goes into my chest and I end up with an upper respiratory infection! These drug companies make me sick! They know they have us just where they want us...and we are helpless to do anything about it! Shame on them!!!!!
Hello fellow Drixoral users. I purchased three boxes of Drixoral from a canadian pharmacy back when this first happened. I have actually horded them. I found I can take Zyrtac-D for 4 or 5 days in a row before the feeling of coming down with the flu hits me, then I get out my trusty horded Drixoral. I just took the first pill out of the last blister pack so I'm getting ready to order from Canada again. Of course they have more than doubled in price since I ordered at the beginning of this fiasco! It looks like Canada will be getting a lot of American money because of this. I am going to call my doctor and ask about the Lodrane 24D. My own pharmacist is also a Drixoral user and can't believe this is happening!
I use Drixoral to treat chronic cough. After being prescribed all sorts of medication from antibiotics to steroids I finally found pulmologist that solved my problem by Drixoral. To stop cough initially doctor prescribed Tussionex and Drixoral. After only few days I was able to stop with Tussionex and continue managing my cough with Drixoral. After it went off the market and I tried many other alternatives but nothing works like Drixoral. I am so appalled that Canadian pharmacies has raised price so much on it
Look what I just found, an alternative to Schering-Plough's Drixoral!
ECR Pharmaceuticals has launched a second once-a-day allergy product, Lodrane 24D, an extended release formulation of brompheniramine maleate and pseudoephedrine HCl.
Lodrane 24D utilizes Elite's proprietary extended release technology to provide once-daily dosing of an effective, low-sedating antihistamine combined with a decongestant. The once-a-day formulation is designed to enhance patient convenience and compliance for those who require chronic allergy therapy.
Unlike the previous formulation, Lodrane 24, this new version also has decongestant effect to relieve stuffy nose.
Looks like it's prescription which is fine with me as I won't be limited by behind the counter policies.
To my horror I've found Drixoral is no longer available locally.
The Canadian Pharmacies have jacked the price up to $50 for 20 tabs.
I have used Drixoral for over 20 years and must have it to function. I've tried about everything else there is and nothing works as well.
SHAME ON YOU, Schering-Plough, for showing your complete lack of regard for the welfare of those that depend on Drixoral!
Schering-Plough has discontinue the drug with no notice or attempt at seeing that their customer needs were met. Their ethics are no better than a dope dealer peddling on the street, in for the money with no concern for the end user's suffering.
After calling 1-800-317-2165 I spoke with a woman who showed no concern for this outage or the suffering of their long term customers.
Has anyone noticed that on some canadian pharmacy sites they have increased the price of Drixoral from 11.99 to 46.99 in only 3 weeks!?? I emailed the company and they said prices change according to the market! I think they may be trying to take advantage or deferring us from ordering Drixoral.
Well, isn't that just great?!? I guess we're all out of luck then. I ordered Drixoral from a Canadian Pharmacy, and once it arrived I realized it was Drixoral Cold & Sinus NOT Drixoral Cold & Allergy. They don't have the cold & allergy medication in Canada at all. So, I sent it back to Canada and got my money back. Make sure before you order that you need the Cold & Sinus medication.
Well, I contacted a local comound pharamcy today. Here's what happened. They could not find the particular histamine in Drixoral and to get the pseudoephedrine, the pharamcy would have to jump through a million federal hoops. They also called the drug company that makes Drixoral and was told that they DO NOT plan to put Drixoral back on the market. As I understand, there was a limited, but loyal market for Drixoral before it wnet behind the counter. After it went behind the counter, it became unprofitable. I assume the drug will be available in Canada -- I don't think Canada has impotent OTC laws to fight a war on drugs. In short we can kiss Drixoral in the good ole USA goodbye.
Another solution is to have your local compounding pharmacy make it. They told us today it's no problem - same ingredients and they can do 12-hour time release for it too. About $1 per capsule.
My parents had Drixoral at there home when my boyfriend and I were house sitting. After 21yrs of being allergy free, he started having them. So we went in the medicine cabinet and he tried the drixoral. It worked and we didnt think twice until we noticed it wasnt a one time sneezing fit and it really was allergies. Ever since then this is the only thing that has worked for him. He ran out weeks ago and for weeks I have been to every pharmacy but yet nothing til one pharmacy told me it was on back order til August or September of 2008. So he gave us an over the counter and a behind the counter to try. But nothing, it barely helped like Drixoral. So I went to another pharmacy just to double check and they told me it was no longer being made. Now I am lost of what to do to help him since he works contruction and has bad sneezing fits. Nothing worked better or close. Glad that other people are upset as much as us.
I have taken Drixoral for 0ver 25 years. It keeps me clear. You can order some prescription drugs by the b-gillions that is regulated here. It doesn't make sense. That Canadian drixoral is that cold and allergy or cold and sinus. the C & S does not work for me only Cold & Allergy formula.
