My Personal Experience Taking Suboxone (Top voted first)
UpdatedHello everyone :) I'm 29 years old. I've been atticted to pain killers of all kinds since I was 25. I have been on Suboxone for 4 months now. I would like to share my personal, very positive experience taking this medication with anyone that has questions about it or is looking to start it.

Hi Kristin,
I've been reading around these boards a lot and there seem to be a couple of common concerns among people considering suboxone.
1) How and where to find a doctor to prescribe it
2) Is Suboxone affordable for the average person? If not, are financial aid programs available?
Would love to hear more details about your experience with this!
As to where to find a doctor who can prescribe it, there is a website just for that, which lets you search for doctors in your area.

As to affordability, no, it is not yet affordable for the average person. Since it is so highly restricted, it is only available at specific clinics from doctors who have specially trained for its use and there is no generic version available.
That is why so many people who could really benefit from it have to suffer without, if their insurance doesn't cover it, or they do not have insurance, then they simply cannot afford it.
Hi I'm currently on methadone now for the third time for opiate addiction, every single time I start the Methadone treatment I gain 40 to 60 pounds within the first 4 months most people do some don't I just happen to be 1 of them . My question is does Suboxone also cause you to gain weight?
I AM A 39 YEAR OLD FEMALE WHO HAD EVERYTHING GOING FOR HER UNTIL A BACK INJURY LANDED ME IN A VERY POPULAR NEUROSURGEONS CLINIC IN MOBILE, AL.I WAS GIVEN 120 LORTAB 7.5 EVERY 18-30 DAYS. AFTER 3 YEARS THE DOC TOLD ME "WELL SINCE YOU ARE NOT GOING TO HAVE SURGERY " ( SURGERY WAS NOT AN OPTION, NOR WAS IT DISCUSSED) , I WAS TURNED OVER TO HIS PARTNER, PAIN MGMT. I SAW HIM ONE TIME AND DECIDED , I DO NOT WANT THIS ANYMORE, THE WORRY OF HAVING MEDICINE ALL THE TIME. "IS HE GOING TO GIVE ME MY MEDICINE? , WHAT IF HE CUTS ME OFF?, THAT WAS MY TRAIN of thinking. I sought out a counselor and doctor who offered this new therapy called suboxone. The counselor instructed me to be off my meds for 48 hours and go in complete withdrawals, and then drive to the doctors office (1 hour away). The odd thing was , i was not that bad off, i actually drove myself and sure i was feeling bad, but not near death. i saw the good doc and was put on the suboxone therapy. the only problem was , to be in this program with this doctor, i had to see this counselor, who charged $100 a visit and that had to happen every week. after i saw her, i could see the doctor. I did this for a while and then i thought, why not go back to where the problem started and ask for help there! I did. I saw a pompous, dark headed, popular REHABILITATION doc in the old group that i originally began ,my problem.I was told if i came for a month, i would not have to come as often. This doctor did not offer suboxone, he offered subutex. He lied to the insurance company so they would approve my pre-authorization for suboxone to subutex. by telling them i was allergic to naloxone.I never said that!!!. I worked in the medical field and he had no problem sending them all the info about my little problem,if my employer/docter wrot a rx for anything(antibiotics). I lost 3 jobs due to his big mouth and pompous asshole tactics.to top it all he said "You will never get off of this medicine, you will forever be seeing me !. i cried and even felt hopeless. i could not stand this man and he would leave me waiting for my appointment in an exam room for 4 hours, one time he left the building with the staff and forgot me in the room.My biggest problem was he decide to use me as a one of his subjects in his next journal entry to be. he did some labs on me and decided to just out of the blue put me on testosterone, diabetes medicine, and a drug for sleep apnea. the problem with this is I am not diabetic, i dont want to take steroids and last time i checked you have to have a sleep study before Dx sleep apnea.Since i refused to take this medicine and my primary doc also agreed, this was not the first time this doctor was doing a research /study without asking permission and treating out of his specialty just to get his name in a journal.his own receptionist said that the practice located in mobile, AL close to i-65 service rd with several surgeons in the group who are very reputable, has lost patients and primary doctors are calling this clown and are very upset with him. However, if i did not give him what he wanted with this study, guess what , no subutex to help me for the real problem i came to him with. i went into withdrawals and he made me come in to his office on the 5th day after i had had a seizure and was dehydrated for 3 days, so he could show me a lesson. After 4 hours of waiting on him to come to my room and vomiting, shaking and crying,he gave me the speech. 2 days later i was so sick i developed a blood clot. This man is doing this to many poor patients who depend on him for pain therapy.i was treated like some piece of trash, not a patient. My medical info was hared with my employers and i lost everything. Is this what someone who wants a better life deserves, he ruined my almost functional life. When is someone going to stop this , before he does this again!!!
Don't need a reply, just wanted to share how Suboxone changed and ultimately, saved my life from Morphine addiction. It's almost been a year since I've kicked Morphine, and I've never looked back while being prescribed Suboxone. I'm on 24mgs. a day, and each day my Morphine problem has diminished into nothing. I kick total ass at my job, started eating better and working out. Got the man of my dreams to propose to me. Suboxone not only gave me my life back, it helped me to improve my life. Seriously, kick your opiate addiction and talk to a doctor about Suboxone. Hopefully your life will change for the better.
