Is Baclofen The Same Thing As A Soma (Page 6)
Updatedmy mom has been taking somas and her doctor changed her meds and she is skeptical of new medicene.
i love it !! Your probably so correct they feel silly now ...but anywho funny funny stuff
I understand your position. I was on Soma for a long period and with my other medications it worked, then moved , chg ed Dr's and the new doctor took me off soma, they are to be said to cause more irritation to the nerve endings than the relief given..........lol. personally at times I felt like an experimental subject. Good luck and I hope you find the meds that relieve your pain in a constructive and positive way. Myself, changed doctors and now we work together and relief verses side effects are much better
Sk8r00,
I have a lot of medical probs as well. Too many to post. Im 47 and had to leave my gov't job, which i loved, after 21 years and go on full disability. I want to throw out a huge recommendation for the spinal cord stimulator. I have had it for 3 years now and absolutely love it. I only had 8 stitches between my shoulder blades and 8 in one butt cheek where the generator was placed. It was a very very easy recovery. Only days and thats bc my doc said so. It works very well with my spinal cord n neck pain. I have 4 programs that i can switch depending on where the pain is from my feet to my neck. I have been on n off pain meds for years and took SOMA for 2 years. IT DOES MAKE ME FEEL "LOOPY". I hate that "out of control" feeling. I'm now on baclofen for severe neuropathy in both feet and half way up my calves. I have lost half my stomach n part of my intestines due to ulcers and was the last one in MD to receive that surgery (Bill Roth II) because it totally screws up your body. Now i hardly eat, i don't make blood or iron, have potassium infusions every other month, sometimes along with magnesium, im very anemic, have insomnia to the point i sleep about 3 hours a day, n the list goes on. I have a hard time absorbing meds so i still struggle with pain every day. The baclofen does help with the neuropathy alot...its much better then the oxy n morphine i have been on for 5 years now. I tried the fentanyl patches and did not get any relief what so ever. Im not out to feel high off of anything. I just want to be able to get a few minutes of relief. Just a few..... I hope you do go forward with the implant of the stimulator and get some relief from it. I surely do..good luck to you my friend..
Coming from a person with the name sk8ter....I don't think any person with serious back insures would be doing that. I have tried both and prefer bac. They are not posting as an addict. I had the same curiosity. As to why this entire site is created. To ask questions. And get legitimate responses, not accusitional ones like yours "sk8ter". Please take your medicational knowledge somewhere else and in your terms seE YoU L8Tr
Best of luck !
I realize I'm commenting years later but....
I'm curious to what you mean about zanaflex being a "mental placebo" because of its "noticeable relief." What do you mean by that?
I'm asking because at different times I've been prescribed each of these for the same damn spasms. First it was Baclofen 10 mg 4x....a month later I said please just write a script for 2x because it was making me so sleepy. Now I'm bent forward & to the right trying to relieve pain from spasms & it seems like Baclofen doesn't do _anything_, & this pain is killing me.
Also deal with depression. So didn't know if you were saying that zanaflex (tz....I can't spell it, is the generic) helped you w spasms AND depression?
Because I have to try something new. I can't live like this.
Most likely the medication that starts with an s is Skelaxin 800mg
Baclofin is not stronger than soma, even my pain management doctor confirmed that. I take 200mg baclofin a day and it does nothing for me....With soma, I can take 1 pill and it lasts me all day
I assure you, I would not live my whole life in pain. My life would end by my own hand. I would make the choice not to suffer my whole life.
Also, Baclofen is NOT a generic for Skelaxin OR Soma. All three are completely different drugs.
Hate to break it to you love, but soma is very addictive and when I was prescribed it once from a work injury I had to show a valid ID because I was told it was now controlled. So as for making comments about refusing clonazepam, and other opiates because they are controlled or addictive is hilarious. Soma are very addictive, and people sell them, over take them, etc, as well. And that time I was prescribed, when I took only 2, because it said 1-2 every 6-8 hours I was feeling super loopy! 1 is fine, but 2 had me buzzed and laid up in the bed sleeping after the "high" wore off. Soma is extremely strong! People beware!
If you are being charged $300 for your script that is outrageous! You can get it a much lower price by going to Costco (no membership required for the pharmacy). You can also use an RX Savings Card. My insurance will not cover the cost. I pay $15.84 at Savon's. There was only a 42 cent difference from Savon's and Costco. Please do not be taken advantage of by these pharmacies who make 1000% over the cost for medication. My doctors to always want me to try a new muscle relaxer. I tried Balcofen and I said, I would only try it if I she would switch me back if I did not like it! So it didn't work so I went directly back for my Soma. Use the generic it is absolutely the same. All meds have what they call Trade and generic names! So don't be fooled if it's called Carispordol. If your doctor is not listening to you, it's time to find a new doctor! Take care and Positive healing.
My doctor specifically told me not to take them even close to the same time. I was taking Soma and he had me try Baclofen as it is more recommended for long term use. I think the muscle relaxer effect was about the same but occasionally the Baclofen made me goofy to messed up! I stuck with Soma/ Carisoprodal. There was also a vehicular homicide here involving Baclofen but I don't know how much was taken.
Hi, have you ever had a massage? Sciatic pain is awful and can become severe as well as debilitating. Also painful for you to receive treatment. I recommend heat on your glute muscle, then use a tennis ball, u can control the pressure and ease into it. Next in addition to massage while seated bring right knee to left shoulder and vice versa. No right way, all depends on each persons flexibility. It can be painful but quite helpful. I have worked in the field of massage for approximately 12 years. Even the most gentle of a full body massage can change the way you feel. I wish i was able to convince more people to try and get massage on a regular basis. The benefits are never ending. In this world full of stress and chaos our body needs help just like a car needs an oil change. Neck massages have came a long way. As far as pricing $$ there are groupons, and discounts, memberships, etc. Call a place to ask if they honor certain pricing. I hope this helps and mostly gives each person posting some relief from the dreaded pain daily. I am a big skeptic with pills, DON'T like them, never have! ANYTHING I TRY HAS A SIDE EFFECT. I notice right away. Yes i tried Flexeril years ago. On 1 pill i slept for 5 hours. Baclofen 20 mg - been on for 1 week ....does Not make me pass out. However i am getting alot of upset stomach symptoms. So far muscle relaxers don't work for me ....Or i cant wait long enough to see? I have tried Soma but so long ago i don't remember. A HUGE FYI - ANY MUSCLE AND JOINT SOAKS REALLY HELP ADDED TO A BATH. Some drug stores sell these products. Best of luck everyone.
My son is 16 and has the same thing, L5 / s1 herniated disk with a tear. He is doing exercises for his core and I was told it was genetic but I also think it's from his 60 pound amp, (he is a great blues musician) and they wanted to out him on neurontin and baclofen because he can not walk or stand longer than 5 minutes which saddens me but for now he needs some kind of relief as he has been like this for 3 months and it just sort of happened - well all I want to know is are you better? He's too young for this and I don't mind the muscle relaxer but will not put him on the neurontin because I know 3 folks who lost all of their teeth from that and one was 40.... he's supposed to do a cortisone shot and maybe some plasma/marrow thing later to speed it up but I'm so bummed because all he does is sit and it's affecting his quality of life.
Nice reply for someone in recovery. You find it "disgusting". I'm also in recovery and looking for information regarding Baclofen. I want to stay sober so I do the homework to make sure it's not addictive. If you find someone on this site you feel that may be a so called Drug Seeker perhaps you should share your experience, strength and hope.....and of course compassion. You must be new to the program. No need to bash someone that may have an issue (regarding the previous posting) I would have regreted running into you when I was getting sober 10 years ago.
Wow if you a former addict why don't you post a more hopeful, encouraging response!
SOMA is NOT a NARCOTIC UNLESS it's Soma with codeine. If You are a recovering drug addict You should be careful about judging anyone else because You remain 1 relapse away from CAOS. As far as your physical issues; most of us have them and that's why we began using prescription drugs- I was addicted to pain meds ( All you people acting like that makes a person disgusting-GET EDUCATED! IT'S A DISEASE!!!!) due to being run over by vehicle & beaten with a fire poker; Never had any withdrawal from Soma because it's only ingredient is Carisporidol ( non narcotic) & I have been clean ( Delivered) from opioids for 17 years. Thanks Be to God!!!
Wow; so judgemental. How could these words help anyone?
I don't know if anyone mentioned previously, but one of the reasons Soma isn't prescribed any more, for many pain patients, is due to the fact that it turns out that Soma mixed with opioids and benzos is called the "Holy Trinity" of overdose potential..... Given the fact that severe chronic nerve pain often causes anxiety, and muscle cramps/tension/tremors, and that xanax is everywnere, many people die from this Holy Trinity.....
