How Long Does It Take Gabapentin To Get Out Of Your System (Page 2)

I was taking 300 mg neurontin. 1 in am, 1 at noon and 2 at bedtime. I was prescribed the med in May of 2013. Increased later when not helping with foot numbness. It has been almost 2 weeks since i tapered myself off of the drug and i still feel nausea in the am which affects my eating. Please advise how long it will take this med to be out of my system? Thank you.
How long does it take for two 400 mg of gabapentin to be metabolized if you only have taken a single dose?
I've been on it for bout 12 years myself . Stopped taking once before n blacked out n stole my nephews car family had to call 911 to get me under control. So I'm tryn again n yes I cry n cry for no reason . Have no ambitions
I have binged on gabapentin and if I do it two days in a row or more, I don't feel its effects after the first day. What I've been reading is there is a threshold that gabapentin will provide relief (or whatever one's motivation for taking it is) and once you go over that amount, less is bioavailable and more finds it's way unused out of your system than if you took less.
I have yet to hear back results of tests. Also my feet decide when they are going to behave. They are not right now, but am still on the Vitamin B regimen. Refuse to take any of those drugs when I am commuting.

Please tell me what you are taking that is working. I recently went off 300 mg of GABA because I developed a rash and need something for my nerve pain with the least amount of side effect. Thank you, MJR
Finally got into see a neurologist and they did a bunch of tests. They are still running tests to see the cause of my neuropathy, but he did say that too much B6 is not good for the nerves. Also zinc. He upped my Alpha Lipoic Acid. He also said he prescribes gabapentin, but is working with me on my reticence to take it.
I had to get off the drug for a long time. I transfered to lyrics. Neither one helped my leg and foot pain. I finally get some compression socks. Made a world of difference, and I and pill free.
Good for you!! Been of Gabby since February and finally feeling better. Still some stomach issues mainly bloating and appetite not great but that's OK considering where I was a few months ago. I take one day at a time.
Good Luck keep me posted!!
Sandy, keep reading. It's actually been a great deal of reading, research and comparing notes with others to come up with an alternative for the neuropathy treatment. The only thing gabapentin did was knock me out at night. It has been a little over a month since I tapered my low dose down to no dose. I still have issues with self-motivation, but am getting better. I have lost almost all of the gained pounds and don't feel nearly as fogged out.
I am taking several vitamins based on what seems to help the nerve pain. Was told that this kind of a regimen will take two to three months to show any improvement, so have to be patient. But it hasn't gotten worse. I am on B1, B6, B12, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Folate, Magnesium, D3, kids multivitamin, probiotic (ha ha, you should see my window sill!). I am also adding ground flax seed (omega 3) and turmeric (natural anti-inflammatory) to what's on my plate each meal. (The addition of the flax is that I don't have to take fiber tablets anymore, LOL). A podiatrist friend of mine sent in a prescription for Metanx, but my insurance won't cover it and I refuse to pay 200 plus a month for a prescription supplement. She did say she thought I was on the right track with my regimen.
I did not consult my pcp when I decided to take myself off the gabapentin, but the impetus came when my back doctor suggested getting off of it when I said I didn't think it was doing any good. My pcp had suggested substituting Lyrica to see if it did better, but the samples are still sitting on my dresser. Just didn't want to jump out of the frying pan into the fire.
I will update in another month or so. Still waiting to see a neurologist to determine just what caused the neuropathy in the first place. Seemed rather sudden.
I agree with Robin, I am on 300mg x 3 times daily for Diabetic Neuropathy - I also am in a wheelchair because of trapped nerves in my spine.(3 years). I have been on many drugs over the years, but feel so unbearably weird on Gabapentin that I have no life at all, having to push myself through each hour. I must find out if there is anything that can replace it. Would not mind if it sent me to sleep but it does not and the feeling is indescribable to anyone that has not experienced it.
I have already made a reply, but realized I needed to be more specific. Robin, what alternative did they give you instead of gabapentin?
Right now I am not taking anything!! Trying to get and make sure all the Gabby is long gone!! Pain hasn't been to bad!!
I love reading I am a Patterson fan!!
If I may, could you tell me what your alternative is you are taking? I was only on gaba for about 5 month, never more than 300 mg, but realized during summer break that I couldn't get anything done! I am not only a school librarian having to drive a major interstate twice a day to get to work, but an author with several published books. It was hard enough trying to publish and market, but it became impossible this summer when I have had 8 weeks of time to work on books and couldn't force myself to do it. And it seemed to barely touch the neuropathy (and no, I don't have diabetes). BTW for herniated discs (I have several; have had for some years), I have always had good success when I had pt. I definitely am a believer in physical therapy.
I got off Gabby in February..still fighting withdrawal..all the bad stuff went away but still dealing with some stomach issues..it takes time..been 6 months for me..I was on a high dose and was taken off to fast instead of a very slow taper..lesson learned.
Allen, yes, yes, yes!! Horrible crying spells and I don't even know why. I have been off Gaba for two weeks and wondering when these side effects will stop. Have had weight gain, fatigue and nausea. Enough already! Does anyone know for sure how long it will take?
Still feeling so bad and do not know what to do.Went to ask for help from pcp with no avail. And I was taken off it along with fentanyl patches and Percocet10all at all once still e sick and trying to find a new pcp.
if you are getting off this medication and you are having problems with depression and/or mood swings I recommend taking Spirulina. It helps give me energy and also seems to brighten my mood as well. I have been off of gabapentin for almost 4-5 days, I stopped taking it after it starting giving me nerve pain and bringing about a lot of pain in my wrist from what seemed like carpel tunnel (even though I had NO problems with my wrists or nerves before that) but it seemed like it was brought on by taking reishi mushroom with it as well, which seemed to cause some sort of auto-immune deficiency. I was always very smart and could have no problems thinking about the words I needed to describe things, but after about a month of taking nuerontin regularly (originally prescribed to help me get off opiates and overcome my anxiety and depression after getting off of clonazepam) I began to have problems thinking clearly and even remember what I was saying in the middle of sentences. I would stop and people would cut me off and I would forget what I was saying. Bad stuff and I had to quit it if I wanted to go back to school. Don't take reishi with this stuff! Spirulina is PERFECTLY fine though.
That is horrible y would they do that to u first of all?
Please help me I'm miserable was taking Gabby, for nerve pain ,Percocet10for breakthrough pain and fentanyl patches for two failed back surgeries, lung cancer on right half lung taken out Athens left breast cancer surgery was taken off all three at once and have not been able to get sleep, eat and now going to go through xanaxx withdrawal what should I do Please give me an answer what to do feel so bad.I also have colitis chroned disease I need to know what to do please.
I've on it for 5 days. It's got me so swelled up I think I'm going to explode! My hands don't work and my legs hurt really bad. I'm over it! Took every pill put of my pill case. Not taking it anymore. Thank God It was only for 5 days after some of the things I've read.
Be well y'all.
