Glycomet 1000 Mg Side Effects
UpdatedI am 59 and a diabetic for the past 7 years. I am also having high bp. I am 5'8" and weigh 68 kg. Generally my fbs/pps readings are n the range of 130/140, but for 2 months I have been getting readings of 150/160 and hba1c is 7.2. Up till now I have been using glycomet gp1 in the night and glycomet 250 in the morning for the past 3 years. After seeing the past 2 months' reports my doctor prescribed Galvus met 50 mg/1000mg in the night and glycomet 250 in the morning, but I am unable to decide about Galveston met. My doubts are: 1. It's such a strong and powerful medicine to be taken for these readings? 2. If I start this medicine I have to take this continuously and cannot come back to lesser potency medicines once the readings come down? Please clarify.

Hello, Gopala! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems you're experiencing.
After taking a medication for a long period of time, it is normal for it to stop working as well for you and for you to have to switch to something else, or adjust the dosage.
As to starting the new one, no, if you get things under control, you may be able to lower the dosage or stop taking it in the future. That is something you can discuss with your doctor, if/when things improve. For example, when I had congestive heart failure, after spending a week in the hospital, when I was discharged I was on 11 different medications to get it under control and lower my blood pressure, but after diligently watching my diet, getting exercise and taking care of myself, I am now down to taking just 2 medications.
The U.S. FDA lists the typical side effects of the medications that have been prescribed for you as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, flatulence and hypoglycemia.
Some people actually manage to completely control their diabetes via diet and exercise, so eventually, you may not need any medications, if you are diligent.
Is there anything else I can help with?
