Any Side Effects Of The Rocephin Shot (Page 4)
UpdatedI have had bad pain in the upper part of my leg and my hip since I got the rocephin shot. My leg got so sore about 2 hours after the shot, that I could barly walk on it. Now it hurts constantly and it catches and shots pain at where I sit down and stand up. I can hardly walk on my leg. I am wondering is this suppose to happen after this shot. I didn't have this before.
I have this issue. It has to be the rocephin... I feel like someone should be held accountable, like my dr who told me my hip pain was from gaining weight, did an x-ray and gave me steroids... Ugh I'm so tired of being in pain.
Redness and soreness of the injection site is the number one side effect. Not only for Rocephin but any IM injection. I've had 2 Ricephin injections in the same week for a severely abscessed tooth. I work at a doctor's office. I had my injections and went right back to working. Was it painful? Yes...like anytime a needle is injected into your muscle. The medication itself burns but it's over in just a few minutes. Rocephin is given for serious and acute bacterial infections. It helps with these infections. Without a powerful antibiotic, you could even die from certain infections especially once they enter the blood stream causing sepsis. It's hard to believe that so many people are sue happy. This is one of the main reasons healthcare is so costly. So these doctors and this medication may have saved your life but you've been left with pain. Maybe you should've skipped the therapeutic injection and just let the infection run it's course. Which by the way could have been devestating. There are risks to all medications and all treatments but you have to out weight risks and benefits.
My 11 year old daughter received the shot in buttox. She could NOT walk for 6 months & wheelchair bound. She still does NOT have function of leg that was injected on that side. Basically they hit the siatic nerve & it paralyzed all her lower body & she was also urinating on herself. She did NOT have a lung infection which was proved by X ray & should NOT have received the shot. Also because she's underweight they should have NOT given it to her in the buttox. .....FOR THE PERSON WHO IS ON HERE STATING PEOPLE JUST WANT TO SUE.....MABIE DR'S & NURSES NEEDED TO BE BETTER TRAINED WHEN IT COMES TO INJECTIONS. I have NOT sued anybody but had to quit my job & home school my child because after the shot she became immune suppressed along with being in the hospital multiple times & physical therapy 2x a week. She still is weak, pain throughout leg, unable to run, climb, or jump & it's been 9 months. She could barely walk but has to push & pull the injected leg.
I posted on here Dec 14, 2012 it's post #41 on here. It's been a year and a half since I have gotten my shot in the hip/buttocks area on my left side. I am still in pain every single day!!! There is still a small lump where I received the shot. The pain is so bad some days I cry. My back has given out on me 3 times. I have a steady constant pain everyday some days are just worse than others. I never had any of this pain before this shot and I sure never thought I would have it for years. There has to be something that can be done if there are this many people complaining about this shot!!
I went to the doctor today because the Rocephin shot I received for Strep Throat about a month ago appears to have caused my hip socket to ache. I waited before going back to the doctor because I'm a big guy and maybe it's the way I'm sitting, sleeping, shoes I'm wearing, not getting enough exercise, maybe it's because of sitting on my wallet, etc. I tried to remedy each of these situations but the pain still exists. I've been taking 4 Aleve per day just to walk reasonably well.
I said enough was enough and I went to the doctor today and explained my dilemma. I told the nurse and the doctor that I received 2 shots that day (1 in each hip) but while one hip is fine it feels like the hip the "nurse" gave me a shot in was a little high. Looking back on it now I thought that the "nurse" gave me a shot in my hip socket. At this point, that is what has appeared to have happened. Apparently my hip is infected / inflamed at the moment. They gave me an oral antibiotic and steroid to overcome the issues at present. The part that had me concerned was to watch the staff scurry like rats when I explained my situation. I ended up speaking to the doctor, RN, and Clinic Manager. The X-Rays came back negative and I'm hopeful that no permanent damage has occurred. If the pain persists, I may reach out for legal opinion. Of course, the lady that administered the shots left the clinic a short time ago.
I got the same shot yesterday. Still in a ton of pain. Except its affected my entire hip and leg. My boyfriend does really believe it hurts like that. So until I found this I felt like a big baby. Its really hard to walk. And the nurse and doctors never told me of any side effects when I asked. Also sometimes at the injection site I feel a prick or stab just trying to roll over or sit. How can I convince him this is real pain? Any suggestions would be a great help. Sorry so many ate going through this as well. Sending love and hope the pain stops for everyone
I a shot of rocephin over 3 months ago in my hip and I still have a huge knot at the injection site. It hurts to walk and my hip and back in still killing me. What do I do?
I got a shot of Rocephin & 4 azithromycin pills at the ER due to a possible infection after a d & c due to miscarriage. I felt fine but I start noticing my skin felt like if it was covered by fire ants. I called the nurse who said if I didn't feel out of breath it was "ok". That was Friday. Saturday I started having severe chest pains went back to ER everything was normal said it was costochondritis which is an inflammation of the chest muscles. Sunday was horrible but I didn't go back.Monday I felt ok a lil bit of chest pain, Tuesday I started noticing a ripping sensation on my stomach but it wasn't to bad,Wed I had severe LEFT lower stomach pain, tachycardia & high BP but NO fever. i ran to ER they did a ct scan everything was normal except my left ovary vein was enlarged & focal infection by right kidney still didn't match up with my symptoms, thurs I felt awful same symptoms again but I decided not to bother. Its Sunday & I'm still having the burning, ripping, peeling sensation underneath my skin that goes down my legs & around my pelvic & stomach. I had the shot on my hip. I'm not sure if the shot is the cause of the pain or maybe something really went wrong in the d & c, I have an appointment with OB to rule that out after I'll see my GP to figure this awful pain / sensation if it's not an OB problem. I also heard of some people having a genetic disorder being triggered by certain foods & medicine.kinda like an allergic reaction but it's not treated the same as a typical allergy Ex: Acute Intermittent Porphyria (AIP), also if you have an undiagnosed connective tissue disorder such as EDS some medicine are really bad for your tissue & you can get pain off that.. Might be something to check out if you guys haven't had much luck getting better. :/
It was in December 2014 I was given shot of rocephin in my left butt we are in 8/12/15 and it has left me disable. I cannot stand on one spot I begin having pain go down my leg into my calve. I cannot run like I use to, due to pain in my left leg and buttock. Pins and needle sensation in my foot. I developed a bump on my tailbone.
Hello - was the 2 shots enough to kill the tooth abcess infection? Thanks.
I have the same experience. Went to a Dr Goldstein here in NJ, and he gave me a shot of Rocephin along with 4 pills of Acethromycin. Within 24 hours my lip swelled and I have intense pain in my lower back. I went back to the Dr office to explain my side effects, and he had his assistant come out and tell me the side effects I am having have nothing to do with the injection. I would like to be part of this legal case as well.
whatever happened with your issue??
My one-year-old received a Rocephin shot but had no issues whatsoever. Other than the administration being exceptionally painful for him, he was fine. He still has a small lump in his quadricep area (where the needle was inserted) that you can feel if you rub there.
A knot or short term pain from an inj. is understandable but my daughter's quality of life has decreased. A time in her life when she should be enjoying college but instead she is in severe pain and constantly seeing doctors because she can barely because of a Rocephin inj. This was back in November and I didn't think the two were related until I had the same inj. 2 weeks ago and began suffering with the same symptoms. At no time did anyone provide either of us a list of side effects or provide a warning that it could cause permanent joint, muscle and bone pain. If we had known the risks, I would have never agreed to the inj. There are so many other medication alternatives to Rocephin and if patients are informed of the risks then they could choose a different medication. Rocephin isn't a miracle medication that saves lives. The more I hear what people are saying, it sounds like it causes more harm than good. I feel the pharmaceutical company should be held responsible if their medication is causing long term pain to so many people and there is no warning that it may cause these problems.
I found out this shot (on it's instructions!) should be mixed with lidocaine. I was told by some not to mix it with lidocaine! That is sick if you ask me. It happened to me a few years ago and I couldn't hardly walk for 3 days. It was excruciating. Anyone who does that is a sicko...
I received this shot on 1/3/15. I went in for sore throat, chest congestion & fever. I was given a Rocephin shot in my upper left buttocks. Two days later, I experienced mild pain. Today, I am walking on a cane! Interestingly, I have had this shot before with no issues. But I think the nurse who gave me the shot must have rushed it, because it only took a second to administer the shot when in times past the nurse would slowly inject the medicine because it is so thick. I take hot baths which provide temporary relief, and I am constantly using a heat pad. I cannot dress myself without the assistance of my wife. It hurts to sit, lay down, stand, walk and drive. I am at a loss for words. I cannot imagine this going on for months or years. Before you take this shot, someone should tell you that this drug can permanently impair your way of life!
My Good News!
A friend of mine suggested that I try an Indian Spice called Tumeric for my symptoms, and guess what! It worked!! The day before I used it (2/8/15), I was using a cane to walk or walking with a painful limp without the cane. I took 1/4 teaspoon of Tumeric (We previously purchased some for a vegan dish we prepared while on a "Daniel" Fast. The next morning I was able to walk without assistance and with only a slight limp. My hip is still tender, but I am much improved. I took another 1/4 teaspoon this afternoon, and I am praying that I will soon fully recover. For the record, I have been using a heating pad every night, but the relief from this was only temporary. I really believe that it was the Tumeric that did the trick. I hope this helps someone else.
"Turmeric has a peppery, warm and bitter flavor and a mild fragrance slightly reminiscent of orange and ginger, and while it is best known as one of the ingredients used to make curry, it also gives ballpark mustard its bright yellow color.
Turmeric comes from the root of the Curcuma longa plant and has a tough brown skin and a deep orange flesh. Turmeric has long been used as a powerful anti-inflammatory in both the Chinese and Indian systems of medicine. Turmeric was traditionally called "Indian saffron" because of its deep yellow-orange color and has been used throughout history as a condiment, healing remedy and textile dye."

I got this shot in my left hip/but area. It hurt. It's now the next day and my knee and foot hurt so bad I can barely walk. Is that normal or did they hit a nerve?
Jennifer, please read my comments below. Godspeed!
I would like to be added to your legal case. I have been having hip pain in the area where shot was administered 2 months ago. I cannot sit indian style anymore with out my hip hurting. It's weird.. like I need to stretch it but hurts when I try to stretch it out. Call the clinic that administered it.. they want to see me right away. Seems odd, like something is wrong. Did some research online, that's when I saw all these posts.
