Zolpidem Generic (Page 5) (Top voted first)

ALL CVS pharmacies just changed the zolpidem from MYLAN manufacturer (out of PA) to TORRENT in India. Because generics can certain behave differently, I am nervous about taking the (10 mg) oblong peach Torrent brand one after reading some things online. I also don't like the idea of CVS using from out of the country manufacturer which HAS to be due to a better price because MYLAN brand is still very readily available. Any comments?

I have MS and take zolipodem for almost 14 years and CVS gave me the same pills that you are taken and it DID NOT WORK. I slept 3 hours max per night since over a month. I'm completely exhausted.
I will look for an other pharmcy

Torrent version is almost as good as the Qualitest generic.

My local CVS has lots of 10mg Qualitest and since my dosage is 5 to 10 mg my doctor prescribes the 10mg and I split them.

Teva (round) generic did not work well for me. It gave me a hangover and took much longer to put me to sleep.

Years ago I took the Dr Reddy generic, and it was great. Then I moved out of state (from NY to NM) and couuldn't get it anymore, so I got the Mylan which has been great. But this month my Rite-Aid couldn't get the Mylan, and I had to get Torrent, which is awful. On the rare nights it puts me to sleep, I'm wide awake 4 hours later. It doesn't matter if I take 5 or 10, same problem. I just called my pharmacy and they checked...Mylan MIGHT be available again the end of May. In the mean time, I'm rationing the Mylan's I have left. I'll take them during the week and save the useless Torrent for weekends, when I don't have to get up early and drive to work.

I've been on ambien for 8-9 years. Anyone who says generics are all the same are fos. I've taken mylan,torrent,teva,sandoz,sanofi and several other brands,the best I ever had was apo. Apotek. Mylan is ok,teva is ok if its all they have,but the rest are garbage. My dr writes mylan only and sams orders it for me.

Have you found a replacement? Qualitest was the best. I've had them all. Insurance denied brand Ambien. Using Teva. Not working. Desperate. No one cares.

Sometimes the brand manufacturer actually either sells a "generic" version to a supplier or another pharmaceutical company. This is a marketing decision and when the FDA gives approval for a generic version of that med. You are correct in that often having the same shape and color of the brand indicates that it may actually be the same. I truly suspect that Qualitest version was made by Sanofi for them and possibly the agreement expired.

The best generic for Ambien is Zolpidem made by NORTHSTAR. I've been using this brand for many years and it woks!!!

Do you mind if I ask if you've ever had the name brand ambien? Also have you tried all other generics out there now? I'm just pretty desperate. I don't have $500 for a 30 day supply of Ambien & I have used it on & off for 15 years for my insomnia problem that's gotten even worse with my arthritis & such. If you could give me any more details I'd be extremely grateful & everything! My quality of life is getting worse & worse with sleep continually evading me. Please help

No offense, but that's not true. Go to several of these boards and you will find many patients who are having problems with their medications since the FDA began allowing India and other countries use different components in the manufacturing of those medications. Some people don't know why, all of a sudden, their diabetis, heart, pain, etc., medications, started being ineffective, or producing new life altering side affects, like depression, anxiety, excessive drowsiness, etc. But many of them do know that Indian manufactuers changed components in the manufacturing of their scripts, leaving them with substandard medications, and they have and experiencing major changes in them.

I feel the same way. My quality of life has gone way down with less sleep. My dr won't write the 10 mg now, and I have tried all other types. I need 10 to sleep 5-6.5 hours a night. I can't live with the pain the less sleep brings for arthritis, Fibro, and stenosis in my neck. With the 5 mg I only get 3-5 hours a night and my energy is non-excistant. This brings on more depression. The FDA scares Drs into not prescribing it. I would be more likely to hurt myself with sleep deprivation than from the Ambien 10 mg. Help us all, please!

This is really a sad situation as generic Ambien, with the exception of Qualitest does not work effectively. I have not tried Northstar yet. Mylang-ylang and Teva are ineffective. Torrent is marginally effective on me.
It is the small things in life that make me happy, like being able to sleep uninterrupted.

Hey Chris M I'm just wondering if you have tried having your doctor directly notify your insurance company to tell them that you are having adverse reactions to the generic & that ambien by sanofi has been the only thing that works for you? I'm doing just that tomorrow when I go into my Dr's and he's already agreed to call them and submit the proper format for claims that they are looking for. I am at my complete wits end my baby is 6 months I have a time period at night where I can take my medication & sleep without it intruppting my child's sleep cycle but, I still have been unable to sleep us crappie generics which are down to only currently 4 for regular ambien in the us are complete crap as we discussed before. I just don't know what to do there isn't even a current program through Sanofi that helps cover the cost of Ambien if you follow in certain income brackets etc. It's total BS we need our rest! Will we ever get it???

It does matter where its made and the FDA mostly does not check.
I would be skeptical of drugs from India.

Walmart zolpidem is terrible. It is made in India and distributed by Northstar. It kept me up all night. This is the first time I have used Walmart pharmacy and the last, I will never go back.
The FDA should be doing a far better job of investigating these generics.

I just had my zolpidem filled at Walmart and it is horrible. I will never go to Walmart again for a prescription. It is distributed by Northstar in Tenn.. The "pharmacist" (I use the term loosely) told me it was made in Tenn.. I suggested she read the bottle which clearly says made in India!
Do not count on the FDA, most factories are NOT inspected. In fact I have read that factories producing drugs in India with big U.S. government contracts were fined for all kinds of issues and our wonderful government gave them more contracts! So much for protecting U.S. citizens. I would like to take this zolpidem to a lab and have it analyzed, it is probably chalk or worse.

Correction I got it filled at Osco not Walmart. It said North on it so I assume it's Northstar, The FDA does have a prescription complaint form which I filled out today! Please everyone complain and maybe "sleepless people" will be heard

Good luck Lily. Hoping it's the ticket for you like it is for me. I know all of our bodies are different though! As far as the pharmacies ordering brands for you, those are some really nazi pharmacies in your area! I mean none of mine in my area will proactively offer or tell you about requesting specific brands, but once you ask them its really not a big deal. They look up the brand in their system, find the NDC number, and then order it for you. Ask to talk to the pharmacy manager in your store if you have no luck with the frontline employees. I use Rite Aid btw.
