Yutopar Aka Ritodrine Experiences (Page 4)

My husband and I have had our daughter, which is now 30, tested for everything and the doctors can't seem to be able to give us a diagnosis, and things are not getting any better. My beautiful daughter has struggled and suffered so much and it breaks my heart to know that the Yutopar that was given to me, affected my baby. My daughter is the one who suffers from it on a daily basis. My second child is normal, and I did not take the drug while carrying him. I would really like to talk to all of you, something needs to be done to care for these kids that are now adults that can not cope. They sleep, eat, are extremely depressed, suicidal thoughts, learning problems, unable to conform to society, lies, bi-polar, anti-social, can't function in everyday life and with everyday problems.We need help. If anyone out there could possible contact me {edited for privacy}.

I was on Yutopar several times during a pregnancy in 1981 and one in 1985. Both of my children have heart and mental issues. If there is a legal suit i want in. I was not told that it was an experimental drug at the time. I felt like if the sides affects were so hard on me surly my babies may suffer. At that time though all you can think about is getting them to full term and, 'surely the doctor knows what he's doing'. If anyone has information please reply.

I've contacted several attorneys and I can find anyone to look into this. I contacted the FDA to no avail. Still working on it tho. Has to be some body that cares. It's an uphill battle to even get these lawyers to understand. If anyone else is getting anywhere with the legal aspect of this please post.

Horrible drug. I've read over articles, and responded to people in the last two years! I've contacted several law offices and and seems to go on deaf ears. There are currently emails that I have not answered yet! Please feel free to respond. {edited for privacy}

I too was given Yutopar to stop pre-term labor. The drug made me so sick. My heart would race, I would shake uncontrollably and feel out of control. This was in 1982. My son, who is now 31, experienced trimmers for the first 6 months of his life. And all of his life has experienced anger issues, drug and alcohol addictions, social disfunction and so much more. Manipulation and control issues as well.
I would love the name of that NY attorney.

How long were you given the drug and at what dosage? I too was given the same drug in 1982. It was given intravenously for 5 days. My son too has had social issues and is now on anti depressants and probably will be for he rest of his life.

Linda the Dr. Started me on tablets when that failed he would put me in the hospital on iv the first time I was 6 months and I still had my daughter 6 weeks early. The problems still growing every time a different doctor and a new diagnosis... I am in hopes to find more families... There are power in numbers.

I was on the for approximately 4 weeks in pill form. I cannot remember the dosage. But my son has so many problems I can't list them all. The most recent is seizures which the doctor just explained that they are caused by stress and childhood trauma. My son blames all of his problems on me, always has, but I know that the true cause is Yutopar. Wish I could turn back time, I would have never taken that horrible drug. I had a total of 5 premature births and only 1 has lifelong issues and he was the only one that I was given Yutopar to stop the labor.
I would like to know why yutopar was taken off the market under the name Yutopar?

I recently contacted the NY times about an article they published in 1987 about the drug Ritodrone/Yutapur. They recently forwarded it to their Science dept. I asked if they could please do a follow up and contact me. I also mentioned this site so they can see the result of this hideous drug. I will keep u all posted. Ty

I'm so sorry Bonnie ...my heart aches for each child, mom, dad, sibling, family member that has dealt with the aftermath of this horrendous drug. It saddens and infuriates me to no end to know there are millions of kids in the prison system, on the streets, in mental facilities, or graves because of this drug. It is a nightmare for all.

I took Yutopar for both of my preterm pregnancies. I took it with my 1987 pregnancy, of which I delivered a son 3 weeks early. He has kidney and liver problems. I took it again for my 1990 pregnancy and delivered a daughter 6 weeks early. She has kidney issues and a heart arrhythmia. I started with a neuro muscular disease a couple of years after my last pregnancy. I have often wondered if all this has anything to do with the Yutopar. While on the drug it made my heart race terribly, which it still does occasionally.

They gave me Yutopar in 1986 as well. My daughter is 28 now and her anger is escalating and I'm worried about her. Please let me know if anyone found some help. Thank you.

See my answer below About adaptogens like rhodiola and astrogalus. Also liverherbs help, like milk thistle. Yutopar affects the liver so a proper livercleans like Andreas Morritz describes, helpend me a lot. Also floweremedies are of great value in my life a a yutopar-child. Its a long difficult way. But its worth trying. If you want contact i would love to share my experience. I have Walked the natural way, never take any chemical drugs

I am in tears reading these posts - was on Ritodrine/Mag Sulfate IV 24/7 for 6 weeks to prevent premature birth. Beautiful daughter, now 27, has struggled for years with eating disorder; bipolar; anxiety; alcohol/drugs - in treatment 7 times in last 10 years. We often wonder why nothing seems to work and only recently did I start to question the possibility of long-term side-effects of these meds - I am horrified at what I am discovering and looking forward to seeing where this will take us.

I sent an email about this drug to New York Times because they did a research article about the drug in 1987 I believe. Still no reply, contacted lawyers, no reply and what's even more frustrating is that this site will not let us exchange info to contact each other ! I tried but couldn't get the word out, they edited it out of my reply to someone else. Pat, I hope your well girl! I have your number! Lol

I too took ritodrine (in1985) and have wondered if it may have affected my son,now 30, who suffers from anxiety, depression, substance abuse. Had sleep and emotional regulation issues as an infant and child.

I have a 26 yr old son that was diagnosed with sensory integration at age 4. He had significant developmental delays in all areas. When he was four yrs old a team of specialist advised me to drop my child off at a state hospital for children that are severely MR or significant problems that can't be addressed at home. Their advice "take him there and forget you had him!" I was given morphine when I went into premature labor seven weeks early. Once contractions were stopped, I was placed on bed rest and prescribed yuropar for six weeks to prevent premature birth. I have an older son who had no health problems and then my younger son, the 26 yr old has struggled all his life.

Also took yutopar from Oct. 12, 1986 until Jan. 20, 1987 to prevent miscarriage. My son has suffered night terrors, ADD, and more….I couldn't understand how a drug that made your heart pound like it was coming out of my chest and the veins in my neck bulge and vibrate…..how could that be good for the unborn child?? My 34 year old son also suffers the same bi-polar, schizophrenia. I took the drug in 1981. Please let me know if there is a legal suit. I have my medical records. Thank you.

Hi, I took Ritodrine for months several times a day while in bed with a pregnancy in 1986. My daughter seems to be fine - some issues with cortisol levels but I have a heart arrhythmia. I remember how I used to shake uncontrollably after I took it right before meals.

I would be interested in reading the article from the NY Times. Do you have a link for it or could you post it?

I am looking for more information on side effects of Ritodrine or any legal suits. Thanks.
