I have been taking xarelto regularly for about 3 months. I am noticing when I have a drink I get very nauseous and the next day I have diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this? ## Drinking alcohol with most medications will worsen the side effects, according to FDA reports. You may also experience dizziness, and headaches. It is usually best not to drink while taking any prescription medication. They usually do not work well together. Alcohol can also cause additional blood thinning. How are you doing, now? ## I am now noticing that I get very nauseous when I take this medication I was taking it right before bed so It was hard to pin point where my nausea and diarrhea were coming from. I have changed the time I take it to around dinner and am not...

Hi all, I've been taking Xarelto for 6 weeks for a DVT in my calf (i'm in plaster with a broken ankle). I noticed some numbness and a strange tingling sensation in my pinky finger/ring finger in both hands. Since my dose was changed from 30 mg (15 mg x 2 daily) to 20 mg all of the joints in my fingers have become stiff and sore. The skin over the joints also feel a bit itchy??!! Has anyone else experienced symptoms like this? I'm just a bit worried as I have a family history of rheumatoid arthritis. I feel like i'm falling to bits at the seams at the moment, especially for a generally fit and healthy 31 year old female! ## I have a broken ankle.- did it 3 wks ago. 1 week later after continuous calf cramps got a blood clot. I am taking xarelto twice daily. Only my 4 th pi...

I have been on 20 mgs of xarelto for newly diagnosed afib once a day for one month. I didn't think about my refill and have run out of my medicine. I've called in for my refill but I won't get it for 2-3 more days. I've seen some things on the internet about stroke and have gotten worried. I use the Veterans Administration hospital for my medical so I can't just call my dr and pick up meds at a regular pharmacy. Should I be okay for a couple of days or should I go to the ER? Any information would be appreciated, thank you. ## Hello, CW! How are you? In such cases, it's always best to give your doctor a call to see what they advise that you do, since there can be risks associated with stopping it abruptly or missing doses. The FDA lists the typical side effects of...

I have just read a notice about safety concerns if you are on xarelto and are going to have spinal anesthesia if you have had previous spinal injections. I had between seven and ten cortisone shots in my lower back between 2011and 2014, followed by radial ablation on both sides in 2014. I will be having knee surgery in a month and my doctor mentioned that he uses a spinal anesthetic. I won't be seeing him till a couple of days before the surgery and wonder if that is a little late to discuss it with him. Do you have information on what percentage of patients have problems? ## I've been asked to give more information about my problem. I have looked at other blogs and it seems that Xeralto has been given to patients for other reasons than AF. These patients have been taken off of ...

I am 37 years old and have gained an excessive amount of weight in the last couple years and it's getting worse every month. It's mostly around my belly but I've noticed in my legs that I have a lot of water. My fingers also seem to tingle a lot too. ## Hello, Daylyn! How are you doing? I'm very sorry about the problem that you're having. And I urge you to see your doctor, as soon as possible. What many people aren't aware of is that such extreme fluid retention can put you at risk of congestive heart failure and it may cause high blood pressure. Both of which require treatment for your own safety. Are you on any medications that might be causing it? ## No, No medications. And also No insurance. Going to the Dr can be very expensive. Probably the biggest reason I...

Hi, I'm Redd, I've been on Xarelto for 6 weeks now due to 3 DVTs and 2 PEs and I'm just now beginning to experience the leg pains, how long do they normally last? ## Hello, Redd! How are you? Actually, sometimes they don't. Many people experience such issues for the duration of treatment and have had to stop the medication early, or switch to something else. The same applies to the other side effects listed by the FDA, which may include nausea, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. Have you consulted your doctor? They may have some ideas that could help alleviate it. ## Hi Redd, I had so much presser in my legs, had to stop xarelto, it felt like my calf's were going to bust. In a couple of days, my legs are back to normal. Pills help one thing, but ...

I stopped Xarelto, and replaced it with Pradaxa. My back pain and headaches stopped immediately. I did have a previous back injury from years ago. I think that it's related. But it went away in days. I think that people should know. I struggled for 2 years with serious back pain and headaches. So I hope this helps everyone on Xarelto. But I must stress the previous lower back injury for a couple of years back.

Doctor put me on Xarelto for afib. They are giving me samples - but I looked up xarelto on Internet and it is $445 to 465 a month, approximately. Looked over the internet for help, got an Rx Savings Card from the doctor's office, which took off $18.03, and my insurance with Part D takes of 20%. If you get a manufacturer's coupon, it is for only one month. If you get some kind of low-cost help, it is for only one month, So I just cannot afford xarelto, and need to go to warfarin - I have to have something for Tier 1 or Tier 2 that I can afford. I had a hard time getting plavix because of the expense until they came out with a generic, BUT xarelto is more than twice as expensive at plavix was, AND I am almost 75 years old and on Social Security with a couple of small pensions. Foo...

Last night my boyfriend and I were both reaching for the TV remote to shut off the TV and bumped heads pretty hard. Full disclosure: I had a few drinks. It hurt for a minute, and then I forgot about it. This morning I woke up with a dull headache, but on the opposite side of where we hit heads. I've also felt like I've been in a fog all day at work, and the dull headache has stayed, maybe even feeling more like pressure. The spot where I got hit is tender to the touch but otherwise fine. No double vision, but I notice that it's harder for me to focus on things that are close up. I have been on Xarelto 15mg twice a day for the past 2 weeks following a PE. Should I be worried? Every pamphlet etc says call your doctor if you hit your head. I don't know if bumping heads qual...

What is different between 10 mg & 20mg dose. I am 71 year old now. I appreciate your advice. Thanks! ## Hello there! I have been taking 5mg proscar for my enlarged prostate for more than 5 years. It is good medicine! But causes unwanted side effects. My libido is very low.. My life is no longer fun! I am so upset! Sometimes I come back to see my specialist Dr and tell him about this but he smiles and tells me to try a viagra or up to you, no help! Then day after day I was suffering with these problems. Why is my tongue dark red as if it's bleeding in the morning after taking xarelto the night before? ## Do you taste blood in your mouth, or is your tongue just red? It has been known to cause bleeding of the gums, and nose bleeds, according to FDA reports. It could also be due to ecchymosis, wich is another listed side effect, it is a discoloration usually caused by bleeding under the skin that has caused bruising. Does the discoloration remain all day, or does it eventually go away? Are you on any other medications? Have you experienced any other side effects? Sorry for all the questions, I am just trying to help you discover what might be causing this.

I have been taking xarelto for about three months. I have suddenly been seeing a lot of blood in my urine. My urine is now bright red. It has been this way for about three weeks. I also have pain in my kidney area and lower back. I went to my urologist and he took a scan looking for a kidney stone which came back negative. He is going to do another scan with contrast. I have seen that side effects of xarelto can be kidney problems, blood in the urine, and pain in the kidney area. Could this be caused by my taking xarelto? ## Yes, it could be due to the Xarelto, though only a doctor can say with certainty. The FDA does report increased risk of bleeding as being a possible side effect of this medication, along with nausea, dizziness, headache, and easy bruising. How are you doing, now? Ha...

I'm on Xarelto, 20 mg daily for dvt. Noticed small bruises on back of leg with bruising around ankle. Trying to increase walking daily. Should I continue to walk with the bruises, or should I rest the leg? ## Hello, Sue! How are you? Bruising can be a normal side effect of this medication, as listed by the U.S. FDA. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, and increased risk of bleeding. Unless they worsen, or become severe, they are usually nothing to worry about, but it is always best to check with your prescriber, to be sure. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I'm on zarelto needed a ct scan on.my lungs they could not get.blood from me.they spent 3hrs trying to get blood and trying to.put iv in my hand but could not get hold of the veins so they.gav...

Hi, I've been on xarelto for nearly 3 weeks. I started of with pressure & pain in the head then that went away. Then got abdominal pain, then that went away. Then burning in my upper back that went away and now my legs have a burning sensation from my calf to foot and some muscle pain in my shoulder and arms feel like they've been bruised but no visible sign of bruising. I have a small Pe in my left lung due to child birth and the same thing happened 8 years ago due to child birth so no more kids for me. But these burning sensations in my legs and feet come and go all day and night and it's so annoying. What should I do as every time I bring this up to my doctors or hematologist they just brush me of saying it's normal. Well I'm here to say it's not normal, i...

I'm trying to determine if weight gain is possible with Xarelto? I have been taking this for about 2 years now (20 mg). I just can't seem to loose weight and have even been to Weight Watchers. I continue to work on my weight but just curious if this pill is having an effect? I am 71 years old with A-Fib. Had an ablation 1 year ago as of next month. ## It isn't a listed side effect reported by the FDA. They typically include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. However, other users have reported weight gain while on it that did not resolve, until they stopped taking it, or switched medications. If it's that much of a concern for you, you may want to speak to your doctor about trying a different medication. Is there anything else I can...

I was diagnosed with a blood clot in my leg and it busted and went to my lungs (pe) in February. So I've been on this medicine ever since. But recently I lost my job and insurance, and meds are $440 dollars for a one month supply. I haven't taken any meds for 3 or 4 days, and I'm starting to feel some of the effects of i guess my blood thickening. What should I do before it's too late? ## I would suggest contacting your doctor, there are cheaper alternatives that can be prescribed, such as Warfarin. While it does require more frequent INR monitoring the price for it is much lower in most areas of the U.S. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and increased risk of bleeding. Is there anything else I can help with? How ar...

I'm on Xarelto and I've been taking it for 8 months. I just found out I'm 7 weeks pregnant, so I've stopped taking my pills for a week now until i get the inj's. Meanwhile, did I harm my unborn by taking this medication? ## At this point, the FDA lists this information as being unknown, though so far, no toxicity has been seen. They do, however, warn that a miscarriage, or taking it during labor could result in dangerous levels of bleeding. Which shot are they switching you to? Are you on any other medications? Congratulations on the pregnancy!

Back in December 2013 I had a bad heart attack and had to be put on Xarelto because I had blood clots in the lower region of the heart. The left side of my back gets pains when I stand up for an hour or more and I can't get my shopping done because the pain gets bad and weakens my back and legs. Can this drug be what is causing this? I also get a nasty taste in my mouth when I am in bed and my urine is discolored and has a foul odor. There is no blood anywhere. ## Yes, it could be due to the Xarelto. The FDA does list it as being known to cause such side effects, you may also experience nausea, dizziness, and headache. Has there been any change? You might need to speak to your doctor about trying a different medication. This might not be the right one for you. Are you on any other m...

Last night I tripped over a leather footstool and took a good fall. I'm on 20 mg of Xeralto for DVT & PE. This afternoon I started getting dizzy. Not terribly, but still a little worrisome. What should I do? ## It would be best to have it checked out buy your doctor, or someone at the ER/Urgent Care. There is a risk that you have suffered a concussion, or are experience bleeding, which could be risky, according FDA reports. How are you feeling, now? Has there been any change? Are you on any other medications?
