Will Oxycontin Be Changed Back To Original Formula (Page 24)
Updatedis Oxycontin going back to their old formula? OC instead of OP.
I'm in Dromana michelle . I'm down your way all the time when surfing.
Drewy did you speak to your doctor & did you find a pharmacy to help you?
Up here in the USA - no way will the old version ever come back. The DEA is cracking down on all opiates.
Most doctors won't write for a strong pain med unless its for cancer / long term.
Our veterans are suffering the most. Last year the VA told our heroes they would just have to Live with the Pain. There has been a rash of suicides as our Veterans are denied pain meds / guys that were on for years were suddenly just told " no more meds "
They claim relaxation and acupuncture with physical therapy is just as effective. I'm talking about guys with crushed spines and Marines with severe injuries are given anti depressants for severe pain. So now there are over 20 suicides a day committed by vets and half of them blame lack of pain treatment. My own son was a Marine and now he needs a pain clinic but all they offer is Good Luck Marine.
The USA is on the verge of a total ban for opiates unless something is done. All due to the DEA and their war on drugs. It's a sad situation and pain patients are the ones suffering not the addicts. And they wonder why street HERION use is on the rise.
Accidental Overdose - that's what they are calling it. My dons Dr. told him that he could die from a single pain pill. Then he put my son on MOTRIN 4 x a day and my son had an ulcer. I nearly smacked the Dr. but that's how bad it is now. The doctors lie and the patients suffer.
So, no - we will never see the old Oxy formula in the USA I'm moving down under if I have to.
Thanks & God Bless
John S
It's acurrate information by your own admission If the pill is visable in your fecal matter Clearly its not getting absorbed. I actually took it from my own Gross I know, however I had to know. I thought I might be dying because I lost so much weight. Fact it was mushy at first Slimy even But by the time i had brought to my Pharmacist it was hard as a rock. Still the pharmacist was skeptical. Digging deeper I learned how come it won't metabolize BHT The poster who has worries of getting cancer from Oxy no but BHT. I agree ingesting polymonimers can't be toxic
Hi everyone, its been awhile since I posted anything. Firstly, on the subject of Targin, if your doctor hates you and I mean really hates you, he will prescribe this. It not only puts your body into withdrawals but gives you the runs for 7 days (just from two 40/20 pills). So stay away from them. I know and still have 26 pills.
I have noticed that I can't seem to regulate temperature. I get cold quick and hot/sweaty just as fast. My arms and legs are stone cold but my body often feels like its overheating. Another thing I have noticed is my teeth seem alot weaker. Am I going mad? I currently take two 80s and one 40 a day. The pain clinic wants me to take lyrica, but that makes me feel funny and my balance notably worse. I have peripheral neuropathy and it seems to be growing worse. Plus, I have developed hand tremors but mainly in my right hand. This I have told no one about.
I also seem to be clinically depressed and suffer acute anxiety. These are new things and I can't seem to leave my room. People ask how I am but I know all they want, is the standard answer, ' yes, I am fine, thank you'. I am seeing someone for that.
I would be most interested in hearing your thoughts as I seem to be losing my mind.
Hello Kashmir, I just read up on Targin and it seems your right about going to the toilet all the time, it says it is used for pain but without the constipation of opioid only so maybe your dose is not right or maybe you would be better off just on Oxycontin by itself? Also, the difference in body temperature, I have this all the time, it is caused by the Oxycontin and it drives me crazy so know you are not alone!
I have now lost ALL my teeth so your also right about this, do you know that narcotics ruin your teeth? I didn't and now I have to have zygomatic implants (implants that go up through the cheekbones) so I can have teeth. Make sure you don't get in this mess and keep up your dental hygiene with frequent dental visits. The narcotics cause 'xerstomia' which is loss of saliva - when you have a dry mouth decay becomes rampant in the mouth, therefore causing loss of teeth. See, you are not going mad after all!
As for the Lyrica, if you take it start on a small dose, it is a 'anti-seizure' medication that can help with chronic pain. My husband takes it to help him sleep. It might help your neuropathy as it stops electrical signals from the brain so maybe try it and see how you go. You can always stop if it does not agree with you. The tremors in your hand, you should tell the doctor, could be many things but when I get this, it is because my neck is 'out' and it is fixed by a visit to the osteopath.
Depression and anxiety are really difficult to deal with but there is lots you can try. Do contact a support group in your area for people with agarophobia as you may have this if you cannot leave your room and they will help you. It could just be you are really fed up with life and being in pain. Do you have any family support or a good friend? Exercise can really help a lot with depression as it increases serotonin levels in the brain which decreases clinical depression. You know, there are two types of depression, there is 'endogenous' which means there is no specific cause and could a lack of certain brain chemicals and 'reactive' which is when something has happened like you lost you job or had a death in the family. Which kind do you think you have? Glad you are talking to someone.
Hope my post has helped you not feel so alone. Things will get better, nothing ever stays the same for long so stay in 'the present moment' not in the past or in the future, this way you won't worry as much. Take good care of yourself.
Cheers!
Targin sucks and the Sandoz oxycodone original formula rule so glad to be back on them
Thank you Jay for your kind words. As for the depression, I am sure it is reactive. It started when my cousin was set alight and stabbed multiple times. She begged for her life but it fell on deaf ears.
She came to see me before dropping off her kids to her ex. You might have heard of him. He is the i**** that held people at the chocolate shop.
All those flowers at Martin place but no words about my cousin so brutally murdered. I recognized him straight away when they showed bits of him on tv.
I can't trust anyone!
I do have a good family setup and friends who I am most happy to text but not to see.
Oh god, Kashmir thats horrendous! Im truly crying for your cousin, no one deserves to die like that.... I cant even find the words to tell you what should happen to that scumbag! Targin are made from Oxycodone but have Naloxone in them thats meant to stop the constipation from Oxycodone alone. I have trouble understanding how Targin are effective when they are combine with the Naloxone which is used to bind the effect of opioid in addicts. Its meant to be released in the gut but not the bloodstream but i dont get how! The symptoms your describing sound like theres a couple of things happening. Firstly, i think a few could be contributed to withdrawal esp the anxiety, change of temp.... But Theres probably a lot of phycological effects going through the experiences you've had, depression & agoraphobia for example... its good you have someone to talk to as you will need help with that. is the peripheral neuropathy the reason you take oxycodone? It also seems a strange dosage you are on. When do you take what dose? As for your teeth im afraid that is a side effect of opiate meds, the nerve signals blocked by opiates also block the signals & chemicals in your body that induce absorption of calcium, vit D, Vit B etc. you will find you are probably deficient in several vitamins & maybe getting a blood panel done to identify these will be beneficial. I take a multitude of vitamins & iron inj's. to try & counteract the effects & i have an extremely healthy diet of fresh food, very little processed. That includes 2 green juices a day full of spinach & fruits plus goji berries, flax & chia & one meal including meat & veggies. It does help to eat healthy & as Jay mentioned exercise..... Its difficult when your in pain, but its important for your body & brain releasing chemicals such as serotonin & being outside helps vit D levels. You should talk to your doctor about the hand tremor your experiencing esp as its only in one hand, it could be from any number of things. I hope this helps you a little, if you want anymore info feel free to ask. Jay are you a girl or guy? Ive thought you were male, but realized it was an assumption based on nothing really... Lol not that it makes a difference, just wondered! Cheers
Hi guys. I was just saying to my partner how good this site is and how helpful everyone is. I feel like you guys understand without judgement and I'm grateful for that as I have now stopped telling others that I'm on pain killers because of their, behind my back, negative and hurtful comments. I'm a week on the Sandoz version oxy's and I have to say I'm feeling much better. My anxiety has dropped but still there but I'm coping with that. My pain is a lot less and best of all I don't feel sick. I didn't want to make this post about me. I wanted to say, first of all to Kashmir, hang in there!!!! I'm not a doctor or pharmacist, unlike a lot of the people on here should be lol, but I am, I believe a caring person and I hear your loneliness. You might be suffering from post traumatic stress due to your experiences which can cause dramatic stress and fear of people, open spaces and other normal everyday things. My friend has this mental issue due to sexual abuse over six years and she can't deal with the normals of everyday life. You can ask for help over the phone to organizations like 'Life Line' who are really good and experienced.
I also want to say hi to John, in America. What a fricken awful situation for all with legitimate pain, and returned service personnel, what the hell. America prides itself on their armed forces yet they treat their soldiers like that. I would be trying to get that out there via the media. Write to all the major television news stations and papers. The trouble is, unless you have suffered from severe pain it's hard to understand, I didn't realize how life changing it was only because I hadn't given it a forest deal of thought until my Mum was suffering.
I just wish both of you the best of luck and I want to thank the other guys on here for their medical advise for me and Kashmir. Have a great, pain free day guys.
I really don't understand why people seem to make it their mission to get you off painkillers. It seems, they would be happier if you were in immense pain Thank you, Michelle and Sandy. Your words do make me happy. I truly understand and have heard the cruel words said when people find out you are on opioids.
Everyone wants me to be the person before I broke my legs. They don't understand that I have changed. I don't even know who I am anymore.
When Man Haron Monis, killed my cousin with his girlfriend, my cousin had soot in her lungs. She suffered. It has taken all light from my life. I try to cling to familiar feelings of happiness, but I can't seem to. Oh course, feeling the way I do, all my pain receptors are on max and I am always in pain.
I do have a support group who keep trying to break the shell I have created. I have people who try to keep me social but its all very hard!
I know things will get better, but its hard when you look in the mirror and don't recognize the person looking back. My friends have got tried of me asking if I look different. Sometimes, when I walk past a window and I catch my reflection, I see the me I used to be.
Isn't that weird?
Hello Kashmir, as you say, you are not the person you used to think you were, you are still you but a part of you that you did not know existed before, has now revealed itself to you. Through grief and loss you have found the great sadness that any of us can feel if Life presents it to us and it does change us. BUT, it is not forever!
I grieved once for three years, I wanted to die. I am so glad I didn't or I would never have know the happiness that was waiting for me in the future, the love that was waiting for me to heal first and then find it. If I had not grieved the way I did and had not know the pain I felt, I would not have become the person I became, would not have found the compassion to others who suffer, would not have ventured onto my spiritual journey. Life returned to me, better than ever before!
But first, I had to grieve. The grief was for myself as grief always is, it is a selfish emotion and this is just fine, it is a time to discover your true core. You can use your pain to make you a better, more loving and caring person, a more forgiving person who will one day, help others and be at peace within. I am living to tell you, this is the truth.
The person you glance at in windows and mirrors who you do not recognise, is your 'dark side' but remember you have a 'light side' also. I believe everything happens for a reason, one we may never know or, we may look to the past and say "now I know why I had to feel this way" - it is all part of your journey of life. After you have fully been in your pain, when you are spent, when you are 'sick and tired of being sick and tired' and have hit 'rock bottom' there is only one way to go, and that way is UP. You will discover you have survived.
Once I went to a seminar with a great man of wisdom and I asked him a question, I said to him "what do you do when someone you loved, leaves you" and his simple reply was "forgive them". This is what I had to do and it may be what you have to do. Your emotional pain can begin to heal when you are ready to 'let go', in letting go, a new life can come and then life will begin to make sense to you again.
Know that your grieving does not affect your cousin, who I think would want you to live fully again, not continue to suffer in her name. Make it your gift to her, learning to live again.
I agree about pain relief also. If you need it, you need it and there should be no shame or guilt in taking pain relief, if only we could take medication to heal a broken heart! Your heart may have scars but it can continue to beat. Don't give up, keep putting one foot in front of the other and walk on.
One day, you will recognise yourself again and it will be a better self than you used to be and you will be able to say "this is the new me, the more evolved me, the me I have become now" and you will no longer want to be the you that you used to be because you will love the 'new you'.
In Peace.
They are wise & beautiful words Jay has shared with you Kashmir. Its very true, when you become seriously ill or injured it changes you forever.... you feel broken, useless & hollow inside & alot of the time the person with whom you chose to share your life with turn out to be self absorbed & unsupportive among other things. You've suffered a terrible loss of someone you cared about deeply, & as Jay said you must mourn her but dont let it consume you Kashmir. You need to look for the light in whatever that may be for you.... Your children, a lover or something else entirely. Ive found for me its helping others, that helps me push through the sadness & also the pain I face each day from this bloody disease i have. Friday i spent at RCH with my dog (hes a therapy dog for the sick kids) & the last 2 days ive been in Eildon, helping with the search for young autistic boy Luke thats been missing since friday in the bush. Im home now in bed exhausted & totally stuffed from pain, but ive done something to feel good about myself & proud of myself. I was told by doctors for years i cant push myself like this, j as ill end up doing more damage & my disease will spread faster & bring my time closer to the end. I did as told & felt like i was just rotting away waiting to die, & even though i make my pain that much worse by these things i do my mind is better & my heart pulls me through the pain. Do what you have to & find the thing you need to help your mind strong.
Dear Michelle and Jay. Your words made me cry and I am crying profusely as I write these words. My heart is broken but your words do give me hope that things will change, they have to! They simply have to!
I feel that I have not grieved enough but I do believe one day the tears will stop. I have not seen any family members grieve. I get told 'people die kashmir, just get on with life, don't be weak'.
I dont understand why the person looking back at me in the mirror looks so different. I have even been considering plastic surgery. I have visited two ENT's. Everyone says I look the same but, I don't see it. I must be going mad!
John from America. I have some news for you. I was talking to a friend in New York yesterday and he told me that doctors are still giving out prescriptions for opiates such as percocets and oxycontin but they have got really strict. He told me that he was given percocets for a broken collar bone. I am not sure what crazy game they are playing with your son. If he is in pain, he should be given pain killers.
I feel for your wonderful son.
Kashmir thats great info you have shared with John, hopefully he can help his son get the help he needs & certainly deserves. You are allowed to greive, its what humans need to do so they can move on. I feel sorry for your family that they arnt able to do that, I dont believe its healthy to bottle up grief as one day it explodes. For you, maybe try looking outside of yourself instead of in the mirror.... Look at those worse off than yourself & see how strong people can be no matter how hard life is, it really does help. Dont be hard on yourself, your doing ok & keep lines of communication open with others.... It doesnt matter who, family, friend, counciler or even on here, whatever helps you voice the sadness & gives you the support to rebuild. When im with some of the kids in hospital its a great reality check... a little boy sitting on his dads lap 10mths old laughing & reaching out to touch & cuddle my dog, like any other little toddler besides the machines hes attached to keeping him alive until a doner heart & lungs become available. A little girl with an infection, in & out of hosptal because her immune system is non existent through cancer treatments.... this time for 6 weeks, no Dad or Mum there because Dads gotta stay with the other kids & keep working to feed them all, & no Mum as her Mum passed away a year ago. I have to run to my car after visits like these & sit there bawling, you cant do that in front of these tiny little battlers, they wouldnt understand as they have a strength beyond anything we as adults have. If you can find the thing that makes you feel they way i do about these kids & other work i do saving lions & a couple of other things, thats when you will not only heal but you will grow stronger & more able to cope with pain, fear & illness. Keep working toward that mate. Take care.
Targin doesn't contain 20 mg of naloxone; it contains 2 mg of naloxone. Naloxone (which is also Narcan) is an opiate antagonist - they use it to reverse opiate overdose. But, taken orally at doses of 2 mg, it does NOT cross the blood-brain barrier - so you don't feel it. It also doesn't bind to opiate receptors in the gut; constipation from Targin is far more common than diarrhea. What it does do is prevent abuse - it blocks the receptor sites in the brain. Suboxone works for opiate addicts - and contains 2mg of naloxone along with varying doses of buprenorphine. The opiate addict is maintained on the buprenorphine... but does NOT feel the naloxone. The amount of misinformation on this particular forum that needs correction is overwhelming. And, it usually comes from someone who wants a huge dose of a pure opiod agonist like oxycodone - just don't "cut" it with anything. LOL
Perhaps the "bad reaction" that killed her was an overdose of oxycodone. She did take 4-5 times her normal dose ... I'm not being unsympathetic, but am being realistic.
Targin is for opiate addicts so you dont and cant misuse it. The dr knows that the nax in the targin pretty much completly stops the oxycontin from working. Sub and naloxone, ect. are used for opiate withdrawal which doesn't even work. Basically it puts your whole body into instant withdrawls. Even if your not an addict it will hurt a bit. The more you take the worse you feel. It does little for pain if anything. Dr's only prescribe that if you ask for it or he's planning to take you off it or thinks your abusing your tabs.
I don't know who you are talking to KJB, who has died from an overdose. Maybe I cannot see the posts that you see. Nobody that I can see took 4-5 tablets to many. I also want to say that I don't think that anyone on here is pretending to be a doctor or pharmacists and you would be silly to take something just because a person you have never met says it will help without talking to a doctor first. The people on here have helped me a lot and not for one minute have I thought they they are abusing the drugs they are prescribed, if they are that is their business anyway. As for all the mistakes on this forum, what are your qualifications ??? Just curious. Maybe the person that has said 20mg instead of 2mg made a typo...Just saying. You know it's really hard being in pain most days and I wouldn't want to wish it on anyone....Do you have pain issues KJB?
Anyway, Hi Michelle, Kashmir and Jay, I hope you are all doing well. I'm great but busy moving up to the Gold Coast to be nearer my daughter and granddaughter....I have to find a new doctor. The s*** starts again. I have been on the Sandoz brand now for two months and I feel so much better. No yucky stomach, and not so anxious. I hope everyone else is relatively pain free...
KJB Targin actually comes in different strengths: 5/2.5, 10/5, 20/10, 40/10... theres is no 2mg at all, so i wouldn't be pointing at others implying misinformation! Targin is a Mundipharma product-same distributor of original Oxycontin & new formula Oxycontin... The idea behind it is to reduce the constipation side effect of Oxycodone, which can cause big problems ie. bowel obstruction, hemorrhoids. In the clinical trials they found doses up to 50mg a day of targin worked well, there was little to no change in pain control & marked improvement of constipation, but over 50mg a day didn't control pain in the same way & caused a lot of side effects, while taking part Targin & part Oxycodone CR to make up dose reduced the effect of Targin to help constipation, so pretty useless really. Naloxone in small dosage is an opioid antagonist -(stopping binding of Oxycodone to opioid receptors) in the gut, but not strong enough to cross blood-brain barrier. In 50mg dose & upward it not only affects local opioid receptors (gut), but crosses the blood-brain barrier affecting the opioid receptors of central nervous system- therefore stopping Oxycodone from binding with these receptors, that stops the analgesia effect needed in first place. So with that said, it is probably a good choice for those on lower dosage Oxycontin, but for those of us on higher dose it will cause withdrawal & is pretty much useless to control pain. KJB you made a comment about overdose that killed someone being 4 x normal dose, i dont know who you talking about but if its in reply to Johns post you need to read it properly! John was talking about doctors in US not wanting to prescribe Opioid painkillers, his son was told a single Oxycontin could could kill him...
I presume this was to scare him that he shouldn't take Opioids for pain relief (not 100% sure on that though). His son was prescribed Motrin x4 daily which is an anti inflammatory-Ibuprofin & resulted in his son getting an ulcer! Im on the fence about Targin, im unable to take it as my dosage is to high, but I would consider trying it if i was on a lower than 50mg a day dose, as i had a bowel obstruction 2 yrs ago & its not fun at all! I had a nasogastric tube to try & break it up, was throwing up fecal matter, sick as a dog, in excruciating pain. I ended up having to be rushed into surgery & gutted like a fish, came out of anaesthetic screaming, the pain was so bad! Spent 3 days in ICU with pain specialist not leaving my side (i couldnt take tablets as i couldnt keep anything down) trying to get enough IV pain killers into me to control the pain. I contracted MRSA (hospital superbug), turned septic & nearly died. Had to give me 10 bags of blood, was on IV antibiotics for 2 months & an abscess formed 2mm from my spinal cord. Had surgery to remove abscess, 10cm of tissue around it & between 3 vertebrae (now have arthritis in there) from that. All that healed & was ok but the muscles that were cut for surgery split open & i have a massive hernia (waiting to have surgery for that now) hopefully they will be able to cut over the 15cm scar i have from bowel op or it will be another huge scar to add to the many. So if I had an option to try, that may help prevent a bowel obstruction YES i would try it!!! There are junkies on here definitely, but there are also a lot of legitimate people in terrible pain like myself. This forum is a voice for us to find information, discuss our problems & support each other, lets keep it that way.
