Ronnie, Im the first person to offer help to anyone who needs it, dont think your so rightous! I know a lot about drug addiction, im not an addict but my body is would definitely go through withdrawal if i stopped the medication suddenly. Your body can hsve all sorts of reactions to stopping all sorts of medications suddenly. My GP, who Ive had most of my life, from when he was doing just family medicine, is an addiction specialist & has helped thousands, prob 10s of thousands get off H, pills, drink & other substances. I take my hat of to the many addicts trying to get help & straighten out thir lives, its not easy. On the other hand Im in a massive amount of physical pain with no real treatments available & the only real option I had was to take narcotic pain relief- a decision i took very seriously after exhausting every other option. The thing that really does my head in is when addicts, hurt others, & then want everyone to feel sorry for them. Bad stuff happens to everyone at one time or another in their lives, & yes some have it worse than others for sure. If mistakes are made which lead to a drug addiction, i feel for you. Its when an addict, robs people for money, burglarises a pharmacy to steal pills etc. follows a customer whos just had a prescription filled to their car or somewhere out of sight & robs them, or tries to con them into selling their meds that annoys me. The addicts who get on here & write about how clever they are, that they've worked out how to make the pills abusable anyway, so those having problems taking the new medication formula, are suffering side effects & uncontrolled pain issues for nothing. I wish they didnt think they are so damn clever, & have to let everyone know about it, its just plain mean, & you think i should feel sorry for them? You know nothing, Ronnie. If you read my posts properly, you would see i blame the pharmaceutical companies for their greed, i know thats what this is all about, Purdue cornering the market with patents, but the junkies that do the above mentioned things, give these companies ammunition to throw at the government. To the addicts who hate their lives, are defenceless, have been hurt so terribly, their are options available & help is out there-alot of help. Take advantage of it & straighten your lives out, you deserve to be happy & healthy, but only you can make that choice. I wish i had the options to deal with my disease, that you have available but there have only been 200 like me diagnosed in the history of medicine. We are used as guinea pigs with no one doing any sort of research to help our pain or save our lives. I hope that everyone, no matter what their disease, injury, or addiction is gets help & are able to make the most out of life. We only have one & its very precious, take care.

I am so sick of hearing people say bad things about other people and how they are junkies and how you are in real pain and you have been taking pills for 5,10,15,20 years and how you think its wrong that you have to go without the good pills ,because they are junkies and abuse them. Nobody knows what other people went through and why they are addicted to whatever. If you have been taking pills for all those years and for some reason you was cut off, you would be crying and freaking out trying to find anything to kill the pain. No matter why you are taking em you are dependent on them. If your cancer or aids or whatever was gone today and you was cut off the meds at a high dose you could become the person your calling a junkie. They could have got hurt or sick and a Dr. prescribed pills and they lost they're insurance or anything and they had to buy em off the streets just to get to work. And one thing leads to another they are homeless, jobless, And no telling what else. People who abuse drugs or alcohol most often do it to deal with pain. Even if its not physical like yours it may be mental. She or he could have been shot up with drugs from a early age locked in a room and raped by 100 men a day for 10 years and put on the street to be pimped out and cant deal unless they are high . No matter what it is! Its not going to make things better if people keep calling others junkies or assumes that your pain is worse than the next persons. The governments wants the revenue from the drug companies. They started using drugs on soldiers and inmates years ago to see if it would be profitable and it was. And most drugs are government made and The drug pushers are the doctors. Because if your addicted you will keep coming back. But allot of people have ups and downs and some are rich and some are poor. Some are good and some are bad. Nobody is perfect and mistakes are made. People should try to stop judging and dogging others and try to offer a bit of positive reinforcement or some tips on how to get em help. Why kick em while they are down? Do you really want to be the reason some one commits suicide? You sticking your knife in a already bad wound wont help it heal! Be Kind Or Be Quite so us who want to help people and make the world a better place can!

Jeanie, you need to go to a good pain specialist. They will help you with different options of meds & other therapies you can try. If its pain from a physical injury, there are nerve blocks, spinal stimulation which makes the nerve pathways change the signals being sent to your brain, meditation(you may think is stupid, but can be helpful when combined with other treatment) & then there are in hospital meds like ketamin-a very strong anaesthetic which given over a 10-14 day period can re set your pain transmitters & can help to reduce the amount of pain relief your on. I understand how you feel, i have an extremely rare disease that has no cure & little treatment available. I was diagnosed about 16yrs ago after 10yrs trying to get help. I stopped working 14yrs ago after realising I just couldnt run my business properly anymore. I lost so much that I loved about my life & spent the next 10yrs chasing a cure or anything that may help & I mean anything, wasting 10s of $1000 on the longest of shots. It was depressing & I became an angry person because of it. A few years ago I finally came to a stop, id bled my bank accounts dry & run out of options to chase. Im now in a really great place mentally & I cram the things i enjoy into my good days, ive started a fundraising charity & I volunteer doing things close to my heart. I have a great gp & pain specialist who have been with me since the beginning, they do everything they can to help me. You need good a medical team to help you Jeanie, i wish you the best. Jeramiah, yes they are releasing generic forms of the old OC formula in Australia. It goes onto the market in mid August & its up to the individual pharmacys wether they stock it or not. So for those on here who live in Australia, there will be relief soon. I hope it will help stabilise my pain levels again, & as many of you Im concerned about the long term use of the OP on my digestive system, I dont think ingesting silicon is good for it.

I had surgery in jan, then didn't take so back i and had 2nd one and also have severe chronic desease in back...I am on 40 mil of the new oc.. It wrecks my stomach with excessive gas...I know its thenew formula....The coating....please go back

Mel1960 No they are not going back to the old formula of OC cause people abuse them. OC were Killing people because of insufflating and intervening them (shooting up) now the Good has to suffer because of the bad people.

sharby naloxone IS used to bring people out of a o.d yes however the official statement for having it with oxycodone in targins are that it STOPS CONSTIPATION as it is a diaretic however i think the real reason for it is to stop abuse but the official statement and what any pain specialist will tell you is its there to help with constipation. it IS in fact a dieretic and can be purchased as nalaxone alone as a dieretic. someone who has had severe dissabling chronic pain for 5 years has time to research everything i put in my body.

I have been on Oxycontin for 10 yrs. For 7 yrs on OC I was able to work. I am now on OP for the past 3 or 4 yes and had to quit work due to lack of pain relief. I am sad and depressed. My. Dr will not change my med

Naloxone is NOT a diuretic.
By itself, it is used to bring someone out of SEVERE respiratory depression, brought on my natural or synthetic opiods..
In other words, and overdose.
It's just so happens that one of the side effects of naloxone is that it has diuretic properties.

Jezza88 & Oxyswallower Im an Aussie. I just want to point something out Mundipharma-who supply oxycontin (old & new formula) here do not make it. It is made in the U.S by Purdue & distributed by Mundipharma in Australia. I don't know what will happen with my pain levels as they are all over the place atm but i am grateful the Aus government are giving us the right to choose which formula to take, & are giving pharmacys the choice of stocking which ever they prefer or both. I must say Oxyswallower like you i am concerned about the silicone & what it could do to our bodies, wont be very good to find a few years later that we need bowell resections because its become stuck or blocked from all the sticky crap going through it. Im still a bit on the fence, as to wether it works just as well pain relief wise as previous formula, but i for one dont need anymore health issues, esp caused by the medication which is the only way i have some quality of life. The person who was saying about blaming Junkies for things, when they have a disease, yes it is a disease-a mental disease for which you need the correct doctors & medication. This is not a medication to treat your disease, the people who legitimately need this medication for cancer, spinal damage or other disease of the body which causes extreme pain dont rob people for it, they dont break into pharmacys for it & they see doctors & pain specialists who prescribe this medication, which we take in the manner of which ot is prescribed. So im sorry but yes Junkies are to blame for much of this, it is because of you sticking it up your nose or in your veins that legitimate people are suffering, who else do you think should wear the blame? The thing that really added insult to injury was seeing posts on here about how to make these new formula usable or should i say abusable, really, & you think everyone who is suffereing from the most debilitating diseases should feel sorry for you? Get a grip on reality & get yourself some real help if your disease of addiction is so awful & not your fault. I've been extremely concerned since Australia changed over to the OP formula due to the plastic in it and the risk of cancer, as well as how long I have to wait after I swallow one (with a whole glass of water as advised) to get any pain relief. The OC formula would take 45 mins to give me relief, where as the OP formula takes from 45 mins to 90 mins & occassionally I don't seem to get much relief at all. I'm relieved Australia will soon have a generic OC formula available. I'm glad mundipharma's scam to keep the market for themselves backfired with their tamper resistant product. If they had any true concerns for people misusing their product why did they wait until their patent was set to expire before introducing it to the Australian market! It's all about $ and obviously the Australian government saw through their bulls***, thank god. Now the question is will they change back to the original formula when the generic hits the shelves? My guess is they will coz their set to loose billions.

Thats good i think. Ive had a rough time lately with my pain level which i put down to new formula as ot was around the same time & ive been steady for the last four years & not needed an increase. Ive since found it was a coincidence, i found a pack of old formula that got caught in the back of a drawer, so i had a few days worth of them. It didnt change my pain level, was just as bad with them as the new formula. Ive been doing a lot more recently & pushing myself to much, so ive taken it easy the last couple of weeks & the pains settled back to around a 4 or 5 base level, thats pretty good for me. I t wont affect me either way now but for those who are having problems i hope it will benefit you. I find the way mundipharma go about things still disgusting, they are only worried about money & after having the lions share of pain relief for a long time they should be happy. The other thing that disgusts me is the junkies who ive seen post on here about how they can do something to the tablets so they can still be used to insufflate or whatever else they do. Good luck to those legitiment patients who are having a tough time, hopefully if they do make a generic version of the old formula it will help you. Thanx for the info john im sure it will give those who need it hope. To everyone who suffer from disease or injury, that causes unrelentless chronic pain, keep your head up & take one day at a time. Focus on the amazing things in your life & how lucky we are to wake up each day. I know its tough, i wake up to the pain like a smack in the face, but i do wake up & once my morning meds kick in i can get up & enjoy the activities im still able to do. Its been 14yrs since i first became ill, & ive watched the few others that have this crappy disease pass away , so even though its not the easiest life, im still here & very thankful for that. Being that mundipharma Patent in Australia expires July 23rd 2014, they lose control. Around June 6 news came of the federal government approving a generic version based on the old one. The release date is scheduled for August 14. Mundipharma is trying everything they can to have the government decline and make it only viable for the formula. If that were to happen it would be a big delay like the USA giving mundipharma the full market longer.

However that does not seem to be the case and it looks like we will be following the steps of Canada.

I was in a motorcycle accident i live in australa im not a junkie but too have to pay the price i have such bad reactions to the new oxys ike itching nausea headaches dizziness constipation pain relief very poor list goes on now im on other meds to try combat these side effects i have several allergies and oxys were the ones i wasnt allerhic too looks like now i am i truelly feel death would be better than the way i feel now thanks to the greedy drug companies and the junkies bet if one of the product nakers were on them theyd go right back to the old ones

Michele i know what you mean in in Australia mundipharma have our contract and have just made the new formula for everyone today was my first day on them in sweating my ass off i feel sick and cant move. IM ringing my doctor tomorrow but because in relatively young i cant get a high dose of fast release oxycodone and id hopefully just try the targin which have naloxone in them which is a diaretic but also stops abuse . These new op formula have done nothing iv taken 160mg and am feeling nothing close to the relief i would usually have from my normal dose of the old oc formula. Its all about money and thanks to the junkies for putting us all in pain and the companies for profiting from our pain. There should be a legal suit in aus against mundipharma and in America against perdue because this obviously isn't just something that's in our heads this many people cant be wrong about it not working properly! Hold in there mate ask for oxynorm its just rapid release oxycontin that may help you i cant get it but maybe you can .

Leeskis, i believe blaming Purdue is quite appropriate! If you see when their patent for oc formula runs out, you will see it is june or july 2014. That allows other companies to make generic brands, they have now got another 8yr patent on op formula. No one can make it in this time. Purdue then pushed the FDA to ban manufacturing of previous formula by anyone. I find all of this disgusting! Im in so much pain again, i dont know what direction to turn. Im scared of trying other medications as i have very bad reactions with many medications. I have written a previous post about this. The thing that really sickened me is i saw a post on here with some guy talking about how to do something to it so it can be used to feel high (i think they insufflate it, maybe IV's as well -im not 100% on that). I feel like ive just had s*** thrown in my face, this was done to stop it being abused & by the looks of it they have already been able to. You have no idea what damage you ppl do by abusing these drugs, i dont judge anyone & you may have some excuse that you cant help, but i really am getting to the point where i think F you. I have no treatment for the disease i have & no hope with only 200 ppl on record diagnosed with it. The only way i have a bit of a life is with the pain medication im prescribed. What do you think im going to do now? My pain level is now at an 8-10 all the time, i cant keep living like this. You have done a lot of damage Purdue & the people who abuse these drugs.

The worst thing about all this is the motives behind it. Ive been reading as much as i can to educate myself, as i really dont understand why im not getting the same relief from the new reformulation. I take it exactly as prescribed, the same as i took the previous formulation, im not a drug abuser, i have very good pain specialists caring for me. My base line has gone up from a 4-5 to an 8 in the last few weeks after being stable for 3-4 yrs on previous formula. Anyway i found out that Purdue have had the patent for 8 yrs & it runs out in a month or 2. They have released this new formula in Australia this month stating its so it cant be abused. Im all for that by the way, ive had someone follow me after picking up my medication from the chemist & bail me up to steal them. Luckily a lovely guy intervened & i was ok. Ive since found out they have done this so they get 8yrs more of the new patented formula before a generic can be made. Purdue dont care about the abuse, they care about money, pure & simple. Purdue were also the ones who pushed the FDA to ban the manafacture of previous formula by a generic company. I also saw a post somewhere, i cant find it again which is annoying i wanted to show my doctor, that the new form is now being abused cause someone has worked out how to make it so they can feel high from it. I really dont understand exactly why people abuse it i hate having to take medication of any kind esp pain relief but i dont have much choice.

Anonymous you actually have no idea what YOU are talking about.I work closely with people who are taking certain pain medications and unfortunately it is very common for peoples body to not metabolize the outer coat of some of the newly formulated pain meds. this being said the human body does in fact metabolize 99% of the active ingredient inside the opioid underneath the outer coat of the medication.
